It makes sense that the game optimizer won't show up. The Denon is not the xbox, it's reporting itself and not the xbox to the tv. The tv most likely is expecting known devices to trigger the use of the game optimizer. The game optimizer is not needed anyways, it's just a quick overlay for quick preset settings you could do manually in the tv's picture menu from what I gather. In any case you said you didn't really see any difference and that's exactly true, most people would never be able to even notice any difference (if any) while playing anyways. It's not a great fix but at least Sound United did SOMETHING to address the issue vs nothing.
Thanks for the review! Ordered one last week for Marantz SR8015 and I got a reply saying an estimated 6 month wait - honestly, I’ll have forgotten by then 🤦🏻♂️😂
Hmm, I will wait until next year, where hopefully Denon will release a working Denon receiver for hdmi 2.1, with plenty of inputs, for speakers. I’m looking for about a 13.2 (or 7.2.6) system
@@TechnoDad so if I buy a 8500 ha it should work without a problem? I still want to wait until next year, for I am waiting for some more reviews of the avr, with an Xbox.
Thanks for the video. Seems like HDMI will never be the truly seamless interface it is intended to be. I have HDMI FOMO but I will continue to live with HDMI 2.0 until the new AVRs have three fully functional (and reliable) HDMI 2.1 input ports.
I can confirm game optimiser bar does work OK on PC and G-Sync working. The only problem I have now when connected through SPK-618 my audio keeps dropping out every now and then really annoying. My setup is LGC165 Marantz SR8015 and RTX3090 is anyone else experiencing andio drop with the spk618 connected. My problem going through the LGC1 I can't watch my plex when a movie audio file is in DTS MA or any DTS audio why did LG remove that 🤔
Denon 6700, Nvidia 3070Ti, OLEDCX....and yeah iv been testing cables all day :( audio drop all the time using this adapter..this is terrible service!!!
I can see the suits at Sound United slapping their collective foreheads, thinking, “Oh, the GAME OPTIMIZER! How did we MISS that?” 😄 I bet that’ll be a firmware update released soon. Great update video, man!
If people don't know models ending with 70001 in the serial number and onwards no adapter required. Those models have the updated board; however models ending with 70000 and below adapter is required. 👍
Good advice, but be aware that at roughly the same time, Denon has also changed the DAC design with a lower performing model (AKM 4458 was replaced with a lower range TI model). Old models are expected to have better sound quality, but HDMI issues. Newer production runs have fixed the HDMI issues, but are expected to have lower sound quality. Pick your poison...
I have a 77 inch C1 with a 2020 Denon and got the SPK 618 a couple months ago. My game optimizer works. Everything works perfectly. That’s weird that it doesn’t for you. I wonder if they changed the boxes firmware halfway through. I remember ordering the SPK 618 the morning it was released and got it a months later.
Another option will be to use the HD Fury Vroom once that comes out, especially for people with TVs that don't have earc or people with older Denon/Marantz receivers that don't have HDMI 2.1.
The crazy thing is using e Ark with a Yamaha 7850 I get Dolby Atmos so I'm not trying to spend no money until they start coming out with good receivers that can support everything
Did you notice that the sound is much more clearer when the xbox series x is plugged directly into the the receiver? The sound is underwhelming when the xbox is plugged to the TV and to eArc.
See if game mode works when you use zone 2 out on the AVR, it does for me and my SR8015. Just can’t get VRR to work unless the game console is directly connected to the TV
Mine doesn’t work on my murantz 8013. 2021. Tried my Xbox series x with this free spk box in my 8k port. I have the 8k Samsung 900R tv. I only get 4K 60. Really disappointed ☹️
I am looking at speakers for my Front stage , in the home theater . I was wondering if there is anything to worry about what the material is that the speaker is made out of. The Golden Ear brand of speaker uses polypropylene and cast-basket . Some use Carbon Fiber. The Golden Ear has a 5 year warranty . Does it really matter for an in wall speaker ?
I mean paying 2000$+ for a tv and upward of that for a 2.1 receiver and it not giving what I wanted for the tv with the game optimizer is bad. I wouldn’t use the hdmi box then and just go through the tv. Sounds like a pretty big headache for people wanting hdmi 2.1.
The problem I have with my new denon. Adapter and lg cx is that when the game starts on Xbox, it has a wash look to it. In order to fix it, I go to home pressing the Xbox button and then back into the game. This appears to fix the colours and then the game runs smooth. I was going to get rid of the new adapter and go back to 60 gos but after hearing you talk about the difference, I will stick with the 120.
Can you do a review on the Denon AVR-S760H that is only available through Costco? It appears to be a solid budget 7.1 dolby atmos, hdmi 2.1 receiver that would work greatly to expand my current 5.1 to a 5.2.1 and future proof for 8k/60 and 4k/120 at the same time. Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks.
You can't expect the world from a receiver at a big box store. There are compromises for the price, and usually sound quality is the first compromise. Historically big boxes only focus on price points and not performance.
Great job bro! The maddening thing is in EARC you cant access the Denons screen menu so going through the reciever gives you that but it's hard to lose the optimizer.
AYYYY!! Yeah, I forgot about that. Thankfully, I only use the Xbox for gaming and not for streaming. I'm sure the volume bar helps if you're using all those other features. I end up using the phone app to change the volume on the Denon when using eARC.
I think that is why I'm stuck I can't get the screen of Xbox to come up. I used to be able access denon menu but I can't now. Hmm. I'm stuck at the connection nothing is popping up. Xbox or denon receiver just wierd
Using the free SPK618 as a powered HDMI 2.1 repeater for my in wall HDMI cable run. It's eliminated any video dropouts and using my vacant USB on the TV for 5VDC/1A power.
Yeah but what I noticed is you have to click the 422 if you don't click that the audio won't stay coming out e-ark it will keep cutting out when I have 422 checked off it does not cut out strange and that's on a Yamaha tsr -7850receiver
I’m still using a x3300 with my Xbox series x right into my 83a90j. I think I’m going to keep doing this as well until denon releases a avr in the next year or two with more 8k ports. I agree with you 120hz is next level for fps.
Give it a year or two, 8k is still getting worked out by the chip producers. The Japanese global leader chip factory, which burned down at the end of 2019, is back up and running at 10% capacity. This factory is why we have had all the troubles with receivers in 2020 and 2021.
Hi Techno Dad...I see your videos and really like your channel. Need little help!! I am using Denon X2600H with Martin Logan 35XTI as Left and Right and ML 50XTI as Center Channel with ML 1100X Sub. I also have two surround speakers (Jamo). I am getting very good sound while playing only audio from Heos app or Airplay/Bluetooth from any iOS device but when I play movie from my Samsung 55 inch 4KTV's inbuilt app (TV model# UN55AU8000FXZA) I have noticed significant drop in sound quality. Not sure why. I have tried replacing the HDMI cable with expensive ones like Audioquest Cinnamon HDMI cable but didn't help. Please advise what can I do for a better sound quality for movies or RU-vid etc. from the TV?
I bought a DR-800H last month, so from 2021. But I got problems to get sound from the tv into the receiver. Not even a set-up is shown on the tv. Tried another hdmi-cable. No difference.
So have they addressed this in currently produced recievers without the adapter? Was thiniking of getting the 7015, but if im gonna some shitty extra box with it still im just gonna get something else.
I wonder if the new 2.1 3 port switch they are coming out with had the bug fix built into it, or if you have to use the 2.1 bug box in conjunction with it.
These early HDMI 2.1 boards are a fraud! $100 for the first one who can get 4K, 60hz, ALLM, HDR 10-bit, and VRR all working at the same time from my Xbox One X, connected to the 8K or game input on my SR8015 which then uses main 1 output to my Samsung Q8FN. This includes you too SU! I can only get ALLM mode working out zone 2. No idea why, TV picks up the input as a AVR and not game system when using main 1 and main 2. If I enable VRR and use main 1, main 2 or zone 2 out, it’s game over with random black screens else resolution errors. The resolution errors occur if I incorporate the “fix box” into the chain. Do I need a fix box for my fix box? 4K, 60hz, HDR, ALLM, and VRR works perfectly fine when the Xbox is directly connected to the TV. Help!!!
I just signed up to receive mine. Says 6month wait. 2 questions. Do you still need to have the receiver ( s960h) hook up to port 3 for e/arc? 2. Will this box give me dolby atmos. Right now my Samsung qn85a isn't giving me atmos pass through from my receiver when my series x is on port 4 2.1 on my tv.
Definitely appreciate your videos. I have the “latest” iteration of the denon x6700 and when I plugged the xbox series x hdmi cable in the 8k port, it doesn’t work.
A little off subject but have a question? Lets say a person streams and only streams and a person is fixing to upgrade equipment then a 5.1 system is about all they need huh? I mean I cant remember seeing anything streamed in 7.1 am I wrong? I have a Nvidia shield and HBO max Amazon video and Netflix. Disney plus and I've yet to see a 7.1 stream? And I'm 7.2 now. I understand all the level of mid range receivers are going to be 7 9 11 channel but Im thinking of getting rid of some speakers in my LRoom
such a shame that i got one of these sent out to fix an issue with my 3080 on pc to the amp and to get 120hz 4k on my samsung tv... but it didnt work right.. sound cuts out for a second repeatedly, and no one was able to come up with an answer as to why, just kept going round in circles with it being the amp, the box, the tv, the pc, drivers, software, cable... nothing fixed it... so just have to put up with 60hz
Now the only issue is finding a 30ft 2.1 HDMI earc cable that will actual work to get you 4K 120hz. It looks like everyone is having issues on the cables they buy on Amazon.
@@TechnoDad Thanks and actually I just watched your review on those HDMI cables! Great job! Reason is my Xbox X is upstairs in a media rack for the media room and I just got an LG Oled G1 downstairs I also would like to use.
What am I missing?. When you pressed the cog button it shows "Dolby Vision with Game optimizer" below. I don't have this TV, I have the LG E9 and that TV typically does the same wrt displaying the game mode. E.g HDR picture mode with Game (user) underneath. You can tell its the HDR/DOLBY setting by the sub settings
@@LarsonChristopher I am indeed. I don't have the problem. I don't understand why what the guy is seeing on screen in the video options is "wrong". It appears to be working/reporting exactly like my TV does.
I have audio cutouts with atmos with this adapter. Denon won't do anything for me. I'm pissed. "According to our engineers, this should work, so there is nothing we can do" So stupid. It cleared up my VRR issues but audio went to hell.
Regarding the HDMI 2.1 Chip set mismatch bug, have you heard if Yamaha has started their upgrade program for the RX-V6A? It was suppose to start this fall. I registered and I still haven’t been contacted.
Chip manufacturers are struggling with hdmi 2.1 .... which then effects all the companies that use the hdmi cards, like receivers, TVs, etc. it's still a very new thing during a stressful manufacturing period.
Just received the newest AVR-X6700H and after giving them the serial number they claim I will not have a problem. I guess when i hook it up we will see
Hi I really need your help, I have a denon avr-s960h and a lg cx10 65 inch tv.. Now I have the adapter also attached for the dolby vision issues, my problem is sometimes I can be playing my xbox series x and when I decide to change a game if the process isn't instant so my a second or so passes the tv changes to the no signal screen and I have to change channels on the denon remote from say aux and then back to the xbox channel to get the xbox screen back up.. I can't understand why it does it.. Please help
game optimizer reduces image quality to reduce lag. plus I suspect game optimizer is for non Dolby vision modes.also it would be nice to know what the SPK618 actualy does. and lastly you should have done before and after examples. plus your hdmi cable quality seem inconsistant. the insistance of "game optimizer" without know wtf your talking about is one of my biggest issue with this video
I heard that new denon and marantz receivers which are getting manufactured got a fix to the hdmi 2.1 bug. So if I'm buying a new one right now do I need this?
if the amp has the fix then you dont need the box, the only way to tell if the amp has the fix built in is to try and get the box for your amp from denon, when you input your serial number into the denon site it will tell you that you dont need the box if you have the new version of the amp, i have been hearing that denon have changed some of the components inside these amp because they cant get the ones that were used in the first version due to a fire, iv no idea if they sound any different though
I bought something very similar as my Sony xr85x95ju only has 1 spare hdmi 2.1 port ( other is used for earc) only cost £40 on amazon. Hdmi 8k 2.1 switch. A stop gap coz I'm not buying a new avr until all this hdmi malarkey is ironed out.
Hey Techno Dad what happens if you connect all devices to the AVR then connect AVR output to the fix box then connect fix box to the TV using one hdmi 2.1 input on your tv?
that wont work as the signal going into the amp still has whatever it is thats causing the issue, its only an issue for the series x and some pc graphics cards, you need to connect to the box first so the box can alter the signal before it reaches the amp
i was getting 4k 120hz no issues with my denon 4700H 8k with my xbox series X and my Lg Gx 4k tv then when ever denon did their last update now i don't get the 4k 120hz. Now i have to wait 6 months for this hdmi adaptor. and i bought my denon feb 2021.
It is a big deal because say you spent three thousand on the receiver another 2300 on the TV another 500 on the Xbox you're almost at $6,000 not to get all the features that's kind of crazy especially the game optimizing mode to pop up cuz that means that something's not right
It is crazy, and it’s been that way for decades. I remember when the ps360 consoles came out and the hdmi fiasco that was. The avr’s did not match, handshake issues, ps3 needed an update, hell the first version xbox360 was out of stock like now and I had to get one without hdmi and used composite, hahahaha
Depends on your TVs hdmi ports and processing. Sony's new gen of receivers will start shipping in Q1/Q2 2022. You might want to hold off on a new receiver until those hit the market, as the other brands will be forced to change prices and/or features.
@@LarsonChristopher thanks for the response. I was looking at the Rz-50 but definitely will be in the market within the next 6 months. I've had my Avrx2300 for awhile now so it's time to upgrade.
Hi just wondering if you could help me as I'm going crazy.. I have a cx10 lg and a xbox series x connected to my denon receiver with the free hdmi adapter, connected up as you explained same as the illustration that came with the adapter but something weird is happening, I get the xbox homepage but when I click on a game it just gives sound no picture unless I go into the lg picture menu and turn off ultra colour? Any help please
@@TechnoDad hi so is that just for the cable from the denon upto the tv.. The little cables linking the adapter to the av receiver just leave with the ones supplied. Regards Gary
But you are only at 32 FRL... everyone knows it works at 32 FRL. It DOES NOT work at 40 FRL as seen with high end GPUs. The only fix is a new board which Denon REFUSES to do under warranty because they still claim the SPK618 fixes it. It doesn't. Avoid Denon product, go with the new Yamaha if you can get one.
I see. Well, I wouldn't go Yamaha as they feature set is just not there. I also have the new A8A and at the $3K price range the Denon X6700H is a better buy, even though the Yamaha claims it has support for 4K 120Hz.
I've got the bug free Denon 2700h and just checked. It's passing through 40gb signal, no problem. I suspect TD is missing a few settings on TV or Xbox which is why it's outputting to 32gb.
Exactly why no one wants to spend three grand an HDMI 2.1 does not work for the Xbox now you can't get game Optimizer mode I'm going to have to wait until they come ot with new ones
Yeah but nobody wants to spend all that money when you can't run your Xbox through your receiver after spending $3,000 on a receiver it's called defective time to come out with new ones and recall them
Can I use this with my Xbox series x and my 2020 tlc 6 series r635? I sometimes use 1440p/120hz for 120fps shooters, but not often because I lose hdr, but I want 4K hdr at 120fps. I love this tv but just wish it was hdmi 2.1. The tlc 6 series 2021 model google tv does have hdmi 2.1, but I don’t want to upgrade just for that because 8k could be around the corner unfortunately. I don’t want to have to upgrade again and 3-5 years so I just want to wait. I just bought a Sony DNh 790 4k 7.2/5.2.2 reciever that I use too, not sure it will work with that?
No i have same tv and unless the actual tv supports 4k 120hz then no…all this does is fix pass through for the Denon system and helps to process the audio
I Would've Left it Connected to TV 📺 LG Cx, If The Sound Was Just as Powerful as Directly Connecting To The Denon AVRX6700H..... I Know That You eArc it From The Denon AVR to The LG, But The Sound is The Difference. . I'm Still Learning I Guess.. Cause if I Could Get That AVRX6700H Sound, Then The XBOX TV 📺 Connection it Will Be. Em I'm Missing Something Family, Or Not Doing Something, Far As That Sound I'm Looking For ( Far as The Connection From XBOX to TV eArc To Denon)
