Exactly. If your read his book Tricks of the Mind, you to can and will achieve amazing memory techniques. In this particular piece of magic we find mnemonics and a bit of trickery, just his style. You can actually memorize a hold deck of cards. In the early mentioned book, he dedicates a section on how to do that very amazing feat. There are three different methods that he utilizes: the Linking System, the Logi System and the Peg System. Google them and see for yourself.
i can remeber the order of a whole deck of cards like that. Derren Brown, Tricks of the mind, shows you the memory techniques... not the one needed for this ofcourse but i had to train myself to do it
dont say "its simple". the concept is simple but it takes years to master. he also made the story or whatever he does to remember them in around 5 seconds. he is an intelligent man with a gift. i think hes great too

Derren is by far a great SHOWMAN. this is a very old card trick modified to make him appear as if he has a masterful memory skill. you wanna know? ok you wonderful fools...there are no "image recognition" devices, no "power of suggestions." the deck is...you're all gonna love this...SWITCHED to one he already has memorized. watch the order of cards in the woman's shuffle and then watch the order in the execution. got it now?
Yes he does, I agree, I think the heart symbol is made to subliminally infleunce her. Also, Dai Vernon is a semi famous magician these days but his name sounds like Verin, or Jack, in French. I think he uses this name to prompt er to think of Jack.
im learning to learn a pack of card, but im not sure if he learns them in the few seconds. I know sometimes he gives them a pack which has an order so that when she suffles it goes to an order he learnt earlier. Its nuts that the whole trick lies in her shuffling in a predicable manner, but it can be done
exactly , i spotted that what you mentioned ,his finger at 6:44 = shape of heart , then he points at her with indexfinger finger are in shape of a J(ack) and some movement with hands painting something front of her

I want to think its an audio messup, but it's possible. I've had that happen to me, and people look at me, but its usually only when I swallow the wrong way, or smoke a cig wrong.
I don't know about the early parts, but the last part... all he had to do was make sure all the cards he threw out landed face down, but get someone (maybe under the dock?) to float the Jack of hearts in the water after hearing what she said. Cool trick.
She was mightily impressed I thought :) By the end it looked like she'd have jumped into bed with him at the next mention of 'jack of hearts'... Lucky man :)
Ok, I agree that hes possibly forcing a card, hes good at that, but watching it several times now, a bunch of other cards also flick around a few times as they're going down too, so its still pretty fucking impressive regardless.
well, i figured out how the end part could be done.. although i dunno if thats the technique he uses... and i know a way to do a variation of the first part, although i dunno if thats the method he uses. i wish i could get a damn hold of DPB where he reveals it
