It’s got to be beyond exhausting. Usually when a player gets rid of the ball you can relax a little, but with Steph, that’s when you have to be the most attentive

That’s why Ime should have kept playing the drop against steph. Draymond and Klay were playing awful the first 4 games. Steph was having to drop 45 to barely win. Game 4 scared him into changing the scheme then draymond and klay were ready

@@aguy6053 Non-casuals would instantly know this. Sure there is a better way like blitz him aggressively while being sneaky at it, but Steph has been noticeably better at handling various defensive scheme that to do those things isn't as effective anymore as it used to be. I think Cavs were the best one who ever did it against him, but without the refs 'allowance' I think most of those plays would turn out to be called as fouls in a normal circumstance.

@aguy6053 Год назад
@@judyclarkson5887 In 2016 Steph was on a bad knee and was noticeably dodging all contact. I think he shot like 6 free throws total in the last 3 games. That let the Cavs play up on Steph and he wasn’t making them pay. But the point of playing the drop is to take away lanes from the other guys. Steph was due a bad game this year. It ended up being game 5, the game they decided to trap him. If he still had a bad game without all the traps, Celtics may have won game 5 with game 6 heading home. This is probably the first time in the NBA you have a highly accurate, high volume 3pt threat that runs like he has 4 lungs. I don't think any player pro or amateur ever had to chase such a threat for 30-40mins. To suddenly change your training just to chase this one player is unbelievable. You basically need to get a cornerback on him shadowing him all game. No nba player is really built like that.
@jujubee4249
@jujubee4249 Год назад
corners and football players in general don’t have endurance like that. I played point guard and corner through college and the conditioning for either sports are completely different. You need like a soccer forward or just a straight up marathon runner to guard steph.
@jujubee4249
@jujubee4249 Год назад
Football players have great anaerobic conditioning, which is essentially the ability to go all out multiple times over the course of a game with down time between bursts. It’s more of a function of strength, which is why they are so jacked. Whereas Basketball players have great ‘aerobic’ conditioning aka cardio, which is the ability sustain moderates levels of output consistently over the course of a game. Obviously there are overlaps, but for the most part the two sports lead themselves to two different types of conditioning.
@RockStampPAS
@RockStampPAS Год назад
@@jujubee4249 a forward??? No way. Need a fullback or winger that is tasked with playing offense and defense. Those are the best conditioned soccer players. They do full field sprints all game. Forwards and defenders are probably the worst picks for stamina. Even then though, my wife is a semi-professional fullback and although she competes with any guy when we play basketball its taken time to understand the spacing differences between the two sports. Soccer players give a bit more room on the bball court so Steph would still be super open to score.

I really would like to know what was the scouting report on Steph in 2016 and what it is now then compare them to the draft report.
@beastmry
@beastmry Год назад
He was faster then but definitely weaker. Also not as good from 2. He's probably lost a bit of that insane hand eye which is why his 3pt% has dropped comparatively over a season in recent times, but he's arguably a better overall player now than when he was unanimous
@DreJr
@DreJr Год назад
@@beastmry yeah I know that. I'm not sure if he lost it or he was/is still adjusting to getting stronger cause his percentage is better this season. But, I'm not talking about the general stuff we can figure. I mean the more specific things you see in the draft scouting report and the NBA stuff JJ and other players share sometimes like '...keep on his left hand, has difficulty going right'.

Steph had the same injury in 2016 that khris Middleton had last playoffs..Steph came back in 3 weeks Middleton came back in 6 months. That's the 2016 scouting report on Steph
@beastmry
@beastmry Год назад
@@tevinsmith4338 for real. I absolutely loathed the media narrative then. Props to Steph for pretty much never being a whiner about it. Warriors really are lucky to have him. Folks like him and Tim Duncan are the absolute best. No drama chill dudes for the most part who played the game the right way and left it all on the court.

As a ball player like me who loves to defend, last thing I would want to do is guard a player like Steph. He's already deadly when he has the ball, but when he doesn't have the ball, he's the deadliest. I would always love the challenge of guarding slasher and ISO's like Kyrie. But damn, Bball gods shouldn't have created the likes of Steph. It's like typing "whosyourdaddy"

The constant movement of Steph what makes him lethal!
@jvgarcia743
@jvgarcia743 Год назад
This only applies on players with high offensive prowess. Stamina along w/ constant movement + remarkable scoring percentage is so lethal. Just imagine if Klay could still come back from his former self and a much bulk, experienced wiseman.. not to say wiggins, looney, kaminga, green, dang that would be really unfair.

Add all of this to the fact that ANY of his shots could be the catalyst to a 18-20 pt. run that no amount of TO’s could cool off is what makes him so lethal.

I think Curry realized early on he was never going to be an above the rim player and decided to become the greatest at cardio. He literally weaponized cardiovascular fitness the likes of which the league has never seen. Perhaps Rip and Reggie were the precursors to Curry but I've been watching the game religiously for 35+ years and have never seen a player push the pace like Curry. He's cerebral as well, knows when to shoot big 3's, drive for layups, hit a tough floater, etc. His situational awareness is top notch. If you notice he jumps sideways a lot, he's using lateral leaps to create open looks for layups and around the rim finishes. He's just an unusual player.

it's one thing to be fit enough to guard him and follow him, but as a defender, you're always a step behind. you are always reacting to what he does so you can't stay in front of him be with him. you are always reacting after he's made his first movement.
