Loved him, unexpected answers, liked to shock, didn't care, very intelligent, cannot imagine the trepidation of interviewing him, always had an answer, beautiful voice.
Back in the ‘great days’ of the ‘talk shows’ with true stars like Oliver When both ‘parky RIP, Des and I suppose Aspel were on the BBC and ITV when they were at the ‘top of their game’ Sadly no longer 🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧👍 👍 🙏🙏
I have seen thousands of interviews over the years. From the great and the good, to the sublime and ridiculous. No one gets my undivided attention quite like Oliver Reed. As eccentric and inhebtriated as he was sometimes. For the lack of a better term. The man was a national treasure. I could listen to this recuntour and sometimes provocateur all day long... How I wish he was still alive. How he is sorely missed. How I miss Oliver Reed!
I visited Oliver Reeds grave during the summer in county Cork where he is buried in a beautiful and peaceful Cemetery there. The local people still talk freely about him, especially in his once local pup, which is directly opposite the cemetery where he is laid to rest. Oliver Reed was the last of his kind.
His 'local pup', that must be the one he rescued from Italy while making a movie there, saw him tell that story on another video. Sorry, I know you meant pub.
RIP Des O’Connor. This was a legendary prime time “family” interview show that caused huge uproar at the time. Olivier Reed was preceded by comedian Stan Boardman who made rude jokes about the name of a German aircraft company. The ITV company bosses were incensed, threatening to sack Des & to get this shut down. After the Reed interview, at the ad break, Des asked continuity who was on next and they replied Freddie Star! The newspaper headlines the next day read “Dirty Des”. Ironically this worked out well for the show because the ratings had previously been on the slide. Hilarious.
Yeh, Dez got a lot of flack from all angles, which though understandle due to how tame he was normally seen as by the public, the guests, when rather controversial or naughty, contrasted, and played well with Dez's pleasantness, and politeness, and niceness, and ended up working out really well for him. And he was exactly the nice man that he was on-screen as he was off-screen. He did well from his rough start as a Buttlins redcoat. Stan Boardman was a one-joke ''The Ge'-mans'' rubbish, knob.
Oliver was a true genius, he had everything, acting ability, comedy timing, desire, fun, etc. However, Oliver himself stated that he never knew how to live until he met Keith Moon. Keith taught him to drink properly and when Keith died, Oliver was devastated and went into mourning for weeks. Genius.
Knowing that your better and you can get wasted beyond belief and still be better than you counterparts. It's a nightmare of a life but they do it to us. Love you ollie Reed. Man amongst men.
I love how Oliver always doubles down on these pompous interviewers. They try to catch him in some embarrassing or shameful act and he just gives them twice as much as they expect and completely turns the tables on them.
Oliver was capable of a certain style of comedy that few can pull off...just brilliant. It's not very difficult to see how Oliver and Keith Moon made close, long lasting (until Keith's untimely passing) friends.
They are talking about a film he was in Castaways-- I am having a tough time finding it in the US; I would also love to see Devils--again, no luck in this country...
@@LockhartSpain Thank you-- another fan directed me to a site called BitChute, and I was able to see it. I appreciate your time and effort. My best, V.
@@digitalmediafan Thank you very much-- Yes, I was able to get it from another helpful RU-vidr who told me where I could find a free copy. It was not readily available in the States. So sad that this handsome, charming man left us too early! What eyes and voice! I wish he had made more movies. He deserved to be an A-lister in my book.
I loved that he said he chose Guernsey for many reasons . He said for a couple of reasons but one was “it was one of the few places his daughter could walk down the street “ , Des Lynam didn’t let Oliver finish his sentence and treated him like a fool . Ollie Reed was unique and wonderful but greatly misunderstood and under appreciated.
The Childrens books would've been true love for the dyslexia child . A different learning environment for different people 👌 Good logical design from O Reed .
Imagine today with PC....notice back then people were happy and still law abiding. Now you can’t be a man/woman w an opinion without accidentally breaking a law or offending someone.
Haha I agree things have gone too far and people can be easily offended these days. But you can’t break the law by simply offending someone...unless it’s a racist comment, in which case...GOOD
Ollie remains a brilliant guy. He was a wild guy. But he kind at heart. Booze is a great thing and don't deny it! You've got to see the humour in this life. Anxiety grips us all so let's grip each other and dance the Tango! Please don't be boring or afraid. Be you. Be a story. Be a mutt!
@@meddle903 nobody knows how long they have got. He lived his life the way he wanted. He was a legend and was loved by millions. There are people out there keeping fit, eating healthy etc and they fall down dead in their 30's. You only have one life. Do what makes you happy.
Absolutely, Oliver Reed was , surprisingly, human and had insecurities but by god he lived life and wasn’t shy to say how he enjoyed the company of normal people and go to pubs. Love Ollie Reed and will always rail against those who call him a drunk . He was so much more ❤️
I am dying to see the film he was in-- Castaway--1987-- I cannot find it in the US-- Amazon only has copies that are not compatible with my DVD player-- any ideas? When I try to Google the movie, or call it up on my cable, the only thing I get is that movie where Tom Hanks talks to the soccer ball. He was SO sexy.
He was a class actor in his day, a loose cannon at times too I reckon. He must have been a nightmare for certain program planners at the time, Funny old world eh? how people like Ollie Reed, Freddie Starr etc have disappeared from our modern day PC world... :-)
My humble apologies, have had so many crap comments over this and Stan Boardman, it's become a bit of a automatic reaction, sorry again, thanks for watching! :))
Oliver Reed lived his life to the full and by all accounts was a great bloke and fabulous company , until he had drunk beyond the point of no return. Des O'Connor on the other hand; a wet fart in a suit.
In many ways he was, but he was also a very tormented man who drove himself to an early grave with heavy drinking. I don’t think he was the definition of masculinity, but wore some of its essences.
Oliver once said that he was "an actor, it's what I do". He was a gifted performer on stage and on screen; he knew how to handle an audience. He had ability. presence and charisma in spades. The nearest heavyweight actor we have to this, among the wimps these days, is Tom Hardy. However, drinking is out of fashion (along with everything else the bloody moaning minnies and snowflakes won't let us see).
@@Bessie Hillum I don't know about that. 'Woke'; yet another word from the US, meaning alert to racial or social discrimination, and injustice, AIUI. Hypocrites, all trying to outwoke each other. Doesn't seem to apply to ageism and disabilities though.
The term "woke " is to describe people who are supposedly awake and aware of all people's sensitivity and feelings over anything that could upset anyone. It's a pretentious view used by douche bags, who claim self superiority by sitting on every fence and have no original train of thought.
Oh no Dez, what did you just do? You focus on no trousers, when Ollie just told you THERE WAS A STORM FFS! |And Ollie ever the big kid only too happily tells where the tattoo is! What a good sport! And of course, he lives on Guernsey to keep the daughter safe from guys just like him! lol
A lot of comments disliking the interviewer. I dunno he makes me think of Eric Idle's less sure of himself younger brother. No real complaints from myself. As for Oliver.... He's aight.
He speaks quite normal and well because he is quite intoxicated here, but not drunk, bet thats either gin or vodka in that juice, the producers of the 80's television programs always wanted reed drunk, there for the booze would be provided for before hard.
