Descendants of WW 2 join Battle of Kohima’s 80th anniversary in Kohima
Kohima, April 4: After completing 77 miles walk in 39 Hours (Walking in My Grandfather’s Footsteps),” the 26 descendants of World War 2 from United Kingdom (UK), today joined the commemoration programme of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Kohima in Nagaland’s state capital Kohima.
The descendants laid wreaths at World War II Cemetery, Kohima and paid rich tribute to war II heroes who fought in the Battle of Kohima in 1944.
Children from four schools also joined the wreath laying ceremony.
The programme also witnessed short sharing from The Viscount Mark William Rawdon Slim from UK.
It may be recalled that the 26 descendants of World War 11 from the UK undertook a 77 miles walk in 39 hours with starting point from Jessami (Manipur) on April 1 and successfully completed their mission on April 3 with ending point in Kohima.
This 39 hours walk is Kohima Educational Trust (KET) Trustee Charlotte Carty's mission to remember her grandfather Lt. Col. William Felix “Bruno” Brown, who was the CO of 1st Assam Regiment during the Battle of Kohima in 1944.
Charlotte Carty thanked the hospitality of the people during their expedition which passed through several locations in Phek and Kohima districts.
