@@nfareview how much is the Desert Eagle running these days? I ask this question, is because I had thought about buying one as a collector's item sometime in the near-future, since it's been in alot of action movies and video games throughout the years

Luv the DE! This was my first gun purchase as a young lad. I broke up with my girl friend, beginning of the summer of my senior year of high school and easily rationalized that I would have spent the coin on her over the summer. Money well spent on my "Daisy"...

I've got two in .50AE. We always joke that since it's unlikely you'll hit an attacker if you're dual wielding (because you'll only have one hand controlling each) your best option is to shoot the ground and fly away.

Yes the code should work site wide. I think you can add stuff to cart and check the code. And you know, my wrists are fine today. I shot 120 rds in two hours and I'm good to go. Maybe the Big Grains is loaded just hot enough to cycle the big DE and nothing more.

I have a MkXIX in .44 Magnum and got the .50AE and .357 Magnum barrels for it. In .357 it is completely unforgiving of ammo that is either not hot enough or has a bullet weight of less than 158 grains. If the ammo isn't hot enough, the gun will happily cycle and eject spent cartridges, but the slide will not recoil far enough to pick up the next round. Which is exactly what the L5 was doing in this video. The .357 is happiest running hot 158 and 180 grain ammo. The gas system needs plenty to work with. Even hot 125 grain won't run the gun properly. I've also tried .38 Special+P out of curiosity. It will eject, but won't recoil far enough to load the next cartridge.

Coming from someone who is new at shooting, I like the demonstrations with cinder blocks. It shows me the destructive power between the different caliber weapons. It sounds pretty silly, but I can see how much more damage a DE 50 ae can do compared to a 9mm Beretta. If a person don't have easy access to those firearms on their own time, they're not going to really understand what the weapon can do.
@Tential1
@Tential1 Год назад
Yeah I had no idea what this weapon did to people and it kind of doesn't make sense in video games cuz if you got hit by this once you're going to die. If I can hit an attacker with this though I think this captures the amount of aggression I have

I just attended your event last weekend for the first time and I wanted to give you a big thank you for hosting it. I had a blast and loved being able to learn about and shoot so many awesome guns. I also wanted to give a huge thank you to Magnum Research for providing the burnt bronze 44 Desert Eagle for the raffle and Freedom Munitions for throwing in 500 rounds of ammo. That was a crazy awesome prize to win and I still can't believe it's sitting in my safe. I can't wait to go shoot it real soon. Looking forward to the 911 shoot.

Interesting with the failures on the L5. I've got an early production model that I finally sent back. They ended up replacing pretty much everything except the frame, with a redesigned top end. New slide, barrel, and spring assemblies.

My 50ae was the last straw that got me into reloading. I can load my own 300gr low recoil loads for about .60 to .70 a round (obviously keeping the brass thats the hardest part because it chucks them about 10 feet over your head)

That’s the hardest pistol I have to hit with but I still love it . I replaced the rear sight with a adjustable one. And put a hogue grip on it with the finger groves which helped with recoil but made the grip almost too big for my hands... it’s still a fun handgun to shoot.

I bought the 44 mag L5 a couple months ago. It fails to go fully into battery most shots. Seems to work best with 240 grain SJSP ammo but even then it has its problems. I don’t limp wrist, I’ve lubed it wet and then semi wet and still fails to go fully into battery. Slide stops 1/8-1/4” away so I have to push it back into battery with my thumb while aiming. Kinda expensive gun to not work right.

I loved your review of the DE .50AE vs L5 .357 Mag it was very informative. I have shot a .50AE before and I loved it and plan to buy one soon (I have a birthday coming up). My question is If you had to choose between the combo, which is a great deal, or the DE 50 AE w/ported barrel which would you choose. (Other factors: I was thinking of buy a .44 barrel anyway because I can shoot it a little cheaper, but I prefer the stainless, nickel, or gold finish). Also, what do you think about the newer aluminum Should I consider the .357 first?

Figured I'd post some ballistics for you: Freedom Munitions 50AE 325 grain - RNFP Muzzle Velocity - 1350 fps Muzzle Energy - 1315 ft/lbs Underwood 44 Magnum 300 grain - JHP Muzzle Velocity - 1300 fps Muzzle Energy - 1126 ft/lbs Underwood 44 Magnum 325 grain - FNGC Muzzle Velocity - 1425 fps Muzzle Energy - 1533 ft/lbs Underwood 50AE 325 grain - JHP Muzzle Velocity - 1475 fps Muzzle Energy - 1570 ft/lbs There really isn't much of a difference between 50AE and 44 Magnum. If you own a DE, and I do (.357 Magnum), then the 44 Magnum is giving you approximately 90% of what 50AE offers...and sometimes more but with a lot more cost effectiveness and availability.

I think these are a good option for handgun hunters that want a semi auto instead of a revolver. These may be a bit impractical for self defense, but I think that being a gas operated blowback design they would really shine as a hunting handgun.

@jasonelbert7352

I'll be honest. I've wanted a Desert Eagle since I was a kid. I sent off a money order when I was very young for a VHS cassette from Desert Eagle that went over its specs and had video of them shooting water melons. I always wanted one but I was about 15. I shot a rental .357 and realized how big it was in the hand. Then I shot the .44 years later. Still a novelty. Now with collection well rounded, I'd love a why not piece. I like the finish on that .50 and it had me wanting one. But the failure to lock back on empty and the issues with the .357 make me wonder if I should look elsewhere. After all, there are a lot of cool options in that price range.
@nfareview
@nfareview 7 лет назад
Thanks for the comment Jason. As for the 50AE failing to lock back, I can almost say for certain that it was the result of me riding the slide stop. I do this on all my Sig Sauers. It's just how I hold the grip. And the 357 I'm not really worried about, I know MR will take a look at it and make it right. I also looked at some more footage and in some scenes the slide didn't go 100% to the rear but it still ejected the casing. It could be the ammo, the recoil springs (too stiff) or a combination. All that said, the 50AE ran 100% and If I had to choose one right now, it would be the 50AE.

I just picked up a red Hawk revolver. It holds 7 magnum shells .44 mag with a 5.5 inches barrel. Using the 250 grain underwood ammo +p i get 1585 fps. Im biyA a 357 magnum desert eagle in a couple of weeks and the golden silver tiger, and then I’m going to do the trigger and hammer the compensator the sites and everything else accessories all black. I also already have a set of nice trip tick on site for it as well as an RDS. I kust bought my wife a Rock Island chambered in .22 tcm. In has a mass of a velocity of 2200 ft./s It is basically a 22 Long rifle projectile With a 9 mm case behind it so I just ordered that for her and I told her I wanted mph. I also have a really nice LWRC. It shoots 556 as well as 308 it has an AK-47 upper and it’s an A.R. 15 lowerHi Arlette I already own for air 15’s and the one I just got is absolutely beautiful I’ve already done custom trigger work charging handles extended mag release. The magazine has an indention at the front that holds the nose of the cartridges in the center of the magazine with the tail of the cartridges staggered back and forth which is why the grip is as wide as it is. I think the success of the Desert Eagle over other auto magnum pistols such as the AMT AutoMag and Wildey Magnum is that the initial .357 and .44 Models used readily available revolver cartridges. The magazine is wide enough that it could be a double stack if it chambered a rimless cartridge like .44 AMP. The Desert Eagle has been offered in two other cartridges in its lifetime, .41 Magnum and .440 CorBon. .440 CorBon is a .50AE case necked down to .44. Neither was very successful and was dropped from production.

Here's an interesting fact- the Desert Eagle shooting the .50AE has the same amount of energy at 100 yards, as does a .45ACP right out of the barrel. I own the Mark XIX in .44 mag (black), and a nickle plated .50AE. Next month I am ordering the L5 in .44 mag (or .50AE). Not totally decided, but am leaning towards the .44 mag. I would be interested in understanding the recoil between the Mark XIX and the L5, both in .44 mag or .50AE. Has anyone shot the 2 guns w/ the same ammo?

They had magnum autos....44 automag. Actually appeared with Dirty Harry in number 3
@johnbutler1323
@johnbutler1323 6 лет назад
From memory, there was the original .44 AutoMag, the Automag II in .22 Magnum, The Automag III in .30 Carbine, the Automag IV in .45 Winchester Magnum and 10mm Magnum and the Automag V in .50AE. There also the Wildey Magnum in a number of auto magnum cartridges, the big one being .475 Wildey and there was The LAR Grizzly in .45 Winchester Magnum and the LAR Grizzly MkV in .50AE. I think the Wildey Survivor, an updated Wildey Magnum, is being marketed by USA Firearms Corp in .45 Winchester Magnum and .475 Wildey with plans to offer it in .44 AMP (.44 Automag). All the rest are long out of production.

I saw one in .45 WinMag about six years ago at my LGS, but I had just bought my .44 Deagle and couldn't justify dropping another $1000 on another giant hand cannon. I passed up a .357 Maetaba a week later for the same reason.

How obnoxious was the comp on the 357? Most desert eagle owners like shooting the pistol and dealing with all the malfunctions but don't like paying ammo costs. Hell even reloading that stupid round is up there in price.

Buy the MkXIX 6" and get all three calibers for it. There is no way to cheaply shoot .50AE. Even if you reload your own ammo, you have to use plated bullets or molten lead will clog up the gas system. And I can't stand to shoot more than a few magazines of .50AE per range session anyway. I know I'm done and can't control the recoil anymore when the gun starts tossing empties in my face instead of over my shoulder. In the .357 Magnum the gun turns into an all day plinker and aside from the report and fireball there's less drama than 9mm out of a Glock 17. On the full size steel frame gun a comp is superfluous in .357 Magnum. There's no real need for it.

I reload mine and use berry bullets flat nose 300 gn and h110 I can load at about .60 to .70 a round if you buy in bulk. Of course you could get hornady xtp 300 gn for around 1.00 but thats a high end hollow point. For range fun and just pulling the trigger cheaper is better...

“Dealing with all the malfunctions...”. What malfunctions? Oh...you mean the underpowered .357 ammo in this vid? THAT must be what you mean. Have you ever held a Desert Eagle? That slide is heavy and as such, needs a lot of gas to operate. I know. I’ve had two DE’s. Neither one has malfunctioned one time. These things are precision instruments. Oh...you didn’t know that either? State of the art. Go look it up. How they are made is right here on You Tube.

Suppressed Deagle?
@jakk1045
@jakk1045 7 лет назад
I've got one. Not the best suppressor host. The gas system dumps a lot of gas when the gun cycles. None of that gas goes through the silencer, so it still makes a fair amount of noise. Also, most ammo that will cycle the gun is going to be supersonic, which also makes noise.

When I got the 50ae I also learned to reload at the same time (coincidence?) I can load 300gr cheap flat nose rounds at about 60 or .70 each. Comparable to a lot of rifle rounds
