We had a wonderful trip to Central Australia recently and I was lucky to bring back some of beautiful, very fine red desert sand. What to do with it? Make soap, of course! I used a hanger swirl technique to make this pattern in the soap. I hope you enjoy the video :)

Interesting orchid-like pattern in the final result. I have some of that red sand sitting in a jar. Was in central Oz for a week away back in '79. A lot quieter back then, just big road trains, a few tourist buses, plenty of willy-willies and drinks at the Telford Alice. Scaled the rock just before sunrise and watched the shadow of the rock contract back from the horizon as the sun came up. The Olgas were quite a sight as the light hit them. Eerie place when you go there. Unfortunately it was very dry so did not get to see the changing colours of rain on the rock of which John Williamson sings. King's Canyon was quite a surprise, right there in the middle of all that desert, a sudden, cool oasis in the blistering heat. Some small bats clinging to the walls. Think I drank a dozen cans of Solo that day which I bought at a one-dunny, one-tank (and, of course, one pub/hotel/motel) town on the way. Funny how it was too hot and dry for flies, there were hardly any at all. Nothing to eat, except dead tourists that have fallen off the rock, I guess. Bus driver told us that if you lined up the headstones of those who have died, falling off, around the base of the rock then they would go more than half way around and that's about half way of 6 miles if memory serves. Nice soap.

Each a work of Art in itself, & each revealing their own message or character...a bit like Pooh Bear watching clouds ((-_>>>. Well, you’ve just watched the equivalent of a ‘Clayton’s Video’ - the video you watch when you’re not watching a video ; ) ; ) [being an Australian sister, I know you’ll know what that means...or can easily find out). Thank you for your posts, and being you. Now, where’s my bed?........... P. S. I have no idea why my text is now all scribed through 😮😮😮 nor how to fix it. Hope you can read this scribed video...

Hi me again so I played around with some numbers on soap Calc. goal was to get a recipe as close as possible to match your 190 g water and 138 g of lye. I put the super fat at 2% and lye concentration at 42%. I got pretty darn close I got 189.32 g of water and 137.10 of lye. Thanks for making soaping fun. I really enjoyed your vacation pics!

As a knife fanatic who loves to sharpen knives...I find myself cringing every time I see your knife blade go through that sand filled bar of soap. 😆

Thank you! You could use just about anything: Clays, herbs, spices, soap colourants from a supplier, micas etc... The sky is the limit!

Elly, I just found your channel...what luck! Your soap turned out gorgeous. I live near a beach that has super fine white sand which I would love to use for soap. How did you clean it prior to soaping? Is climbing Ayers Rock still allowed?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 4 года назад
Hi Debbie, there's no need to clean your sand, just put it in as it is, it will be just fine. And no, there's no more climbing of Uluru/Ayers Rock, which is a great thing for the local people and visitors in my opinion. It's a sight to behold and a great privelege to visit. We don't need to be climbing all over it.

Love the way you make your video...very simple and looks easy to do, I think you're an expert cause that's how an expert does, make things look easy, some other video on the soap making that I saw makes me feel intimidated ...I just wonder how the sand would feel on the skin when it includes in the soap? Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I appreciate your comment. The sand is a tiny bit scratchy. Some people love it, others not so much :)

Thank you. I haven't tested it yet, it might be. The sand is very fine though. I"m going to do a follow up video on it soon.

Such beautiful sand, Elly! I just want to plunge my hand into it through your photograph! 😊 Energetically it has an incredible vibration. Cedarwood is an excellent choice to compliment it ((_~ I prefer the flatter soap tops too as I think the raised tops anchor water ...not good for the soap’s longevity.
