Soap making can be lots of fun, but making multiple batches in one session can be daunting! In this video I’ll demonstrate how I go about making four batches of soap in one morning session, including all the preparation, recipes and the complete process from start to finish!
The written details for these recipes are here:
www.ellyseveryday.com/ellys-e...
I hope you enjoy the video. I nearly wasn’t going to record this, it was just a regular soap making day at my house - but I’m glad I did! I hope it will appeal to the soap makers out there who are getting more serious about their craft and want to learn some tips on making multiple batches more efficiently. These are fairly straightforward ‘everyday’ soap recipes, using the room temperature cold process method.
New to soap making? This is important!
Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide (lyes) used in soap making, in granular or flake form or in solution with water/other liquids, as well as raw soap batter, are highly corrosive and require careful and attentive handling and the proper use of personal protective equipment. I like the fact that you calculated everything on paper. More people should do that. It gets you more in touch with your soap. I'm lazy about that so I just made my own lye calculator. It does everything but the process of making it took over 300 hours. Afterwards I realized I was more in touch with my soap and my soap turned out much better much the same as you writing it down on paper. I hope you inspire many more people in writing it down.

Thanks for your suggestion - it's all in the oil choice! You need oils with lots of saturated fats to create a long lasting bar. I do plan a video on that soon.

Hi, Ma'am, enjoyed every bit of this video. It was so satisfying and soothing when you were cutting the bars and even arranging on the curing racks. I too keep the utensils for one day until the raw batter turns into soap then wash. But here I would like to share a tip with you that...I use a towel to wipe off the batter from all the equipment we use and keep that towel for one day then wash along with other clothes in the washing machine. Especially when you are using fragrance oils. (Please do not try this method if:-- baby clothes are there / too much micas or glitters or charcoal mixed in the batter / if the batter is unscented.) Jugs and cups all will be very clean when we use towel than tissues. And thereby we can avoid using tissue papers a lot. I have seen many soap makers using lots of tissue paper in one batch of soap making. All these are my experience and a gentle suggestion. Please ignore if not interested. Your soap bars look very perfect . Going to watch your video on how to match the size of mold and batter. Hope you are safe there. Take care. God bless you. Regards, Yellow Rose Homemade Soaps.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 4 года назад
Thank you so much for your suggestion, I love the idea of it! But doesn't the raw soap batter destroy your towels/other material? My understanding is that the raw batter would damage the cloth. I'd be curious to know if this has happened for you!
@yellowrosehomemadesoaps
@yellowrosehomemadesoaps 4 года назад
Thanks for the reply. No Ma'am, it won't. I too thought the same in the beginning so I kept one towel separately for the same purpose. Now I am not following that. I use different ones according to my convenience. Just try with an old one if you are really worried about it. I too don't want to put you in trouble. ☺☺ Hope you may find it easy. Looking forward to your more helpful videos. Your smile is very energizing and voice too. Stay blessed always.

I wanted to get into soap making, and started to become discouraged, then I came across your videos. You give great instructions and make it very easy to understand! I just made my first batch of soap, I did your Rose Geranium recipe. It smells great, and was fairly easy. Although my color turned out a little more brown, but it was just my first batch! Then I tried making the Castile soap. I did a half a batch in silicon muffin pans, they’re a little off white, but I think it’s because I did not use distilled or demineralized water. That might be why my first batch turned out brown too. Love your channel! Thank you for posting, you do a great job making videos and teaching how to make things.

Awesome video! Thank you so much! I've been making skincare products for years, but have just started making bar soap. I love that your soap is vegan, scented with essential oils and palm oil free! I'm interested in making an activated charcoal soap too. Do you have a video of that? I'm also glad to know that you don't have to be so exact with the temperature of the oils and lye (a book I read said that the temps have to be between 100-110 F). Anyway, I loved your video! Thank you for sharing!
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 4 года назад
THank you, I'm glad you appreciate my soap making style! I am vegan so that's important, also I've never used palm oil in my soaps. I've never made a charcoal soap, but that's a great video idea! I'm sure you could just add some charcoal powder to your soap batter - very easily done. No, you don't need to be exact with the temperatures for soft oil soaps like these. It doesn't matter at all! Soaps with hard butters and oils are a bit trickier, they do need to be melted properly and warmed so that the butters don't solidify before they saponify. Thanks again :)

Your video on "how to use the soap calculator taught me how to calculate recipe", you are really a good teacher and I love your works, simple and impacting, always loved the simple things. I've been soaping now for about 7months and I now make bathing and laundry soaps for my family. It's so fulfilling. I just made my first body butter 2days ago and will soon try lotions. Thanks for the encouragement, keep up the good work. Stay safe and blessed. Mariam from Nigeria.

Hi I popped back to have another look, I've been practising soap making about 7 batches so far the first batch was you lavender soap for beginner's it went perfectly to plan. then your coconut soap where I started to over stick blend so I was plopping batter instead of pouring in to the moulds, I made the coconut soap again and hand whisked it today, Then I decided to go look at some soap making video's ending up watching this one again, I picked up your message a few times about the thin trace, then just whisk in fragrance. Practice,Practice , love your Coconut soap recipe by the way I gave some of my first batch away and been using it hence had to make some more. Thanks

I so appreciate the fact you are sharing your recipes with us. Many channels do not because they sell their soaps and do not want us replicating their product which is understandable but many of us simply want to be self sustaining as much as we can and enjoy the knowledge... Thanks you. 🙏

This was so helpful. I can see how multiple batches can be efficient. I've not tried more than 2 in a session. Your tip on not washing the bowl in between batches was great as was the suggestion to whisk the essential oils in instead of using the stick blender. 💡 💡 Thank you, Michele
