I'm loving this series, as a 'Young Gun' myself, I appreciate seeing other designers my age getting recognition and help to grow further. Going to apply all these critiques and tips to my work and social presence too. Thanks! Keep it up everyone!
This is great! This allows designers to understand what goes in the mind of a person going through your work and profile, which is a great way to get inspired and improve our work! Keep it up, Chris & Emily!!
I still can't believe the amazing content you put to the table. I've watched about 100 videos from you guys and still watch every single one I can. Chris, not only do you teach design as a extremely professional career, but also teach about life in a very taoistic way, which I love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Chris and theFutur team!
I find really interesting the fact that Emily is a young designer, sitting with Chris, doing a portfolio review. On the one hand, she provides a refreshing touch to the video. On the other hand, she's very professional when commenting. What an awesome Padawan you have there, Master Do.
Instagram now lets you archive posts, which removes the image from your profile while still saving the post in a separate spot for your own viewing. This helps clean up your page without losing posts of personal value. It will also allow you to place the post back on your page in its original chronological position
I love this series! I do have a professor that makes us write out what we spent time on and how long we spent time on it. A “time log”. We’re told the clients want to see the what our time is going into.
Glad I watched this! I'm about done with a portfolio website and was never taught the difference between prime marks and an actual apostrophe! I had a prime mark on my beginning page too
Just finished watching this season & season 2. I have to rate season 1 higher. It seemed...more human. There were vulnerabilities, discussions, the crew Aaron as in episode 7 chipping in. It didn't feel like Master Do standing in front of the class and teaching, but like Master Do sitting in a circle with the students and staff and everyone learning and contributing. Season 2 had the, "You are there and I am here" feel to it that is common in most TV competition shows, and which I think isn't always the best strategy. This season though was engaging. Could also be the fact that it had fewer contestants, so back and forth dialogues were easy? Anyway, from both seasons I have learnt a lot. Muchas Gracias to everyone who made both seasons possible and also to the contestants for allowing us to learn through and with them ♥️.
Love the show, great feedback on the portfolio. Scoring at the end is fine, if you actually do it, dropping a curve-ball of "scoring will come in the next episode" is cheating me as a viewer. again love the show, be proud of it, you don't need this type of hook to make people come back.
One thing that is left out, although it would be too hard to calculate and too invasive (possibly)... but consider taking into account how much people are making on these jobs. Having a lot of work and a good following is awesome, but making money is just as important. (that is a big reason why we do it)
Hi, you’ve introduced the concept of stacking in this video. I’m into design, photography, and film. Should I focus on combining them into my work, or just focus on one area at a time? Thanks
6:30 Can there also be a verbal identity like the tone and terminology the customer care uses? Also maybe something like mindset identity like "think different", although this one is conveyed visually...
Loving this series! I wish it was easier to find the next episode in "Up next" section but somehow it doesn't show up and I have to search it manually... Is it something you can control on RU-vid?
yes, and that takes 2 more clicks with an unknown factor of wether the playlist appears easily under the playlist tab or not. So it's a good competition with the manual searching method. I sometimes see suggested videos embedded inside the video and thought this would be a solution, but I have no idea how easy/hard that is! Just pouring some feedback on ya :)
Thank you for the review. Could you recommend the way for representing design Portfolio to the creative agencies? If I want to talk with Art Director and discuss my portfolio and any opportunities to collaborate, how is it possible to communicate with the company and art/creative director?
Great episode! I’m curious, I’m the old gal in the room. So, back in the day, we called a logo, what you call a brand. But in this episode, you talk about seeing more of the personality and visual identity branding. Can you expound, or give a resource where I can read more? Thank you!
Something I noticed is a lot of asmr people are artistic in some way. Then there are the ones that make "the weird part of RU-vid", the weird part of RU-vid if you know what I mean.
well, yeah. I didn't properly write what I meant, my bad. I kind of pictured something like rating and feedback for portfolios of viewers as a series, but not as in-depth as this series - like every video, different viewers would be rated and given feedback on their portfolio and maybe follow-up on changes.
Loooove your channel and content, so insightful! Also just for future reference (or should I say, futur* reference?? Ba dum tss) I'd think twice about taking their social media's follower count as your first impression. I know it's kind of inevitable because of Insta's layout but these days you can very easily buy followers or even likes from anyone and that'll basically direct a lot of numbers to our accounts without us having to do much, and regardless of our content. So if it's possible I'd say look at their feed/content first, and then move to the engagement etc and whether or not that would make sense. Just a thought! But awesome and helpful video guys, and I think all the designers mentioned have great talent too. Cheers!
Hi chris, i just graduated from design school majoring in Product Design. As we lack of experience and our project would usually be set by our lecturers, how can we build a portfolio with amateur photography of our projects? Thank you! :)
Just tuned in to these episodes. @ 4.39 I don't know if anyone else caught that? Is it done on purpose? It says The Body Cliniic and also The Body Clinic....I hope it is fixed already if it was a typo :-) Otherwise great work!
I would definitely suggest keeping the other account though. Instagram's algorithms love old accounts. If something happens to your main, or you need it for your company, better have an aged one already.
Hahahahah hahahahaha Chris is so funny on this one. His face expressions tell everything before he even says it. Love that. And the girl! Who is she? Where is she now? What a duet! I believe this series is over now? Chris, would you review UX/UI portfolios? I think I have just asked a lot of questions. AAAAAAH love this

Thanks Arun! And yes Sarah, you can search ‘emily Xie’ on most social media sites and 80-90% the first one is me :) Or @_emilyxie on instagram for your convenience.
cfowler....legit stuff. His content is best. I could care less about numbers on instagram at least in terms of when I look at peoples profile. It's all about the content.
