You are watching me upgrade the memory in my old desktop computer - a HP DC5850.

I used A-tech 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz, non-ECC / CL-6 memory modules for this computer.

I put 2x4gb in black slot, no support more...instable if put in white slot more...

Hey, I am on my 1st attempt to take my HP DC5850 apart but I am stuck at the Hard disk part. There is a green clipper on one of the screws I am trying to remove to get the hard disk off. Could you tell me how can I get around it?

March 2019, I still use the same HP dc5850 mini tower, also with 8 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 and a 4-core AMD Phenom II X4 B97 (3.2 GHz)

I still use mine for all my video editing...it's a little slow but it works. I'm thinking of upgrading soon though

@@SevenFortyOne Me too. I used the HP dc5850 since the begin of 2014 for 5 years. I have a new case and a new B450 motherboard, I'm looking for deals on a Ryzen 3 2200G and 16 GB DDR4 (3200 MHz). It would double my CPU performance, for me that should be enough for the next 5 years. The HP dc5850 will replace my Pentium 4 PC, that is used daily by (visiting) family.

I still have it and I want to upgrade it I am planning to upgrade the cpu to phenom ii x4 960t and the gpu to gt 1030

Great Vid! Im interested in replacing the MoBo (looking to do a budget gaming experiment) but the IO panel on the back doesn't look removable. Any tips, is the stock MoBo a proprietary HP Part perhaps? Thanks!

Stop the fans and you know for sure. Probably it is the fan, my case fan was also loud from time to time. Cleaning might also help.

*Have you tried 16GB ????* Some sites emphasize that the max ram of this system is 16GB instead of the 8GB specified by the manufacturer.

1st of, make sure you got the right memory cards for your computer. If you have verified that then try taking them out and putting them in again. Sometimes they don't make good contact and just need to be re-seated so to speak. If that doesn't work then its possible you may have a bad memory card...

is the cpu upgradeable?

Yes, I upgraded the BIOS and I use it with a 4 core Phenom II X4 B97 at 3.2 GHz. I don't think it supports all Phenom II processors, you have to check whether the processor itself can run in an AM2+ motherboard. It will e.g. not support 6 core Phenom II processors and you should stick to a TDP of 95 Watt too.

@@jin-yoshida It did run on the same original HP motherboard, that came with the 2008 HP dc5850.

@@bertnijhof5413 so that means the B97 works with the DDR2 RAM that comes with the computer, right? just to confirm because I'm planning on buying an AMD phenom ii X4 for this PC but I wasn't sure which one would work.
