February 8, 2003 - Seattle Supersonics high flyer Desmond Mason turned in one of the finest runner-up showings in the history of the NBA Slam Dunk Competition. Mason's 93 total points finished second only to Golden State's Jason Richardson.

1:59 - Smoothest eastbay ever. Show it right, between the legs, dunk it left. Just beautiful. Desmond made all his dunks look so beautiful. Not surprising he's having a second career as an artist.

All his dunks were ok when you saw them in regular speed, but they look 10x better in slow motion.

could not agree more - in slow motion you see all his body motion, athleticism and grace. his leg motion in the air really brings the aesthetics all together

Honestly, that’s the case with most dunks, especially dunk contest ones (as opposed to in-game power dunks, which might look better in real-time). To truly appreciate graceful dunks, slow-mo really helps a ton. I’m glad we have the technology.

because he's one of the most aesthetically pleasing dunker ever. for example, lebron's athleticism is undisputed but when dunking he looks like flying wardrobe.

I remember this contest vividly. I was just a kid but this was the first time I had ever heard of Desmond Mason. Knew about J-Rich though. Definitely one of the greatest. Underrated

in the 2001 contest he tried the between the legs and missed. in the 2002 contest, the wheel gave him Dr. J's cradle rock and he couldn't do it. Cool to see him conquer both even tho he didn't win it

Desmond Mason is probably the smartest dunker ever, didn't win this competition but he knew to be consistent then to really show out in the finals.
