Destiny 2 - HOW CAYDE IS ALIVE! The Portal and The River Of Souls 

If I recall correctly: In one of the Cayde's messages he left to his potential killers on Titan during the Ace of Spaces quest in Forsaken, he says something akin to "If you ever meet a Cayde-7, don't trust him."

Hearing Cayde again after all these years will never not give me chills.

Cayde's gonna help us turn the Witness into a gun

I’ve got this theory that when Ghost revive a dead body for the first time, they split their soul, filling the empty vessel with a part of themselves. The ghost and guardian are then separate individuals while simultaneously sharing the same soul(light?). This could also explain a few other things, why guardians can’t access the memories of their past life, why in the few cases that they do, they feel like they are watching the lives of another person rather than reliving memories. It could also explain why ghost can only revive their connected guardian. We kind of see this visually in the red war, or when Zavalas ghost was hit with the Anti-Ghost device when there was an attempt on his life; when a guardian loses their ghost, we see an ghostly image fade from their body. I think once both guardian and ghost die, that soul returns to the Traveler. Both Cayde and Ace of Spades look like they’re infused with light. I suspect this Cayde is a light construct taking form within the Traveler.

It’ll be interesting to see if or how Cayde reacts to seeing Crow.

i like the idea that the traveller saw the vulnrebilities of the ghosts finally, reassembled cayde in a new vision with the powers of a ghost (maybe possible since ghosts seems like exo esc drones)

Cayde has the light around him like when the traveler repaired itself so theoretically 2 things. Cayde is either the final shape of the traveler or Cayde is the protector of the traveler if anyone invades inside the traveler. He has all is memories until he died and was reborn inside the traveler.

i have a feeling that the place they are both at is the garden and that river is the river of souls, a creation of both light and dark, what happened when the witness opened up the portal through the traveler, my theory is cayde exists but its his soul manifested and not physically him, his physical body is gone but he still exists as he was a guardian and was once light but exciting to see what happens, definitely a hype trailer

There's a reason why we resurrect without any memory. The Traveler probably has an ethereal copy of us within itself for when we die in service to it. There's no reason that Cayde would have all of his memories unless some of it was suppressed before. Also, Nezarec does not have a ghost, yet the Traveler resurrected it indirectly when it blasted a concentrated beam of light into the pyramid ship. Nezarec, a nightmare given a physical form. Who's to say that the Traveler cannot resurrect a guardian from beyond the grave? I mean the Traveler itself is but one Giant Ghost is it not? Our Ghost is just a conduit for the light, but the light itself is the paracausal power that can resurrect. We've also seen Ghaul become a physical manifestation of the Light itself, just before he got skadooshed. Cayde might be, but is not limited to: Alive, but made with pure light energy Truly Dead, but a manifestation of Ikora's memories, AKA her nightmare projection, cleansed in the light Alive in the Light, acting as a ghost-like ally in D2's version of Sovengarde from Skyrim Truly Dead, a manifestation of his (supposed) suppressed memories of Cayde 1-5/6 as a guardian. Alive as Some plot point that, yet again, makes us question the true capabilities of the Traveler Truly Dead as some plot point that gives us a sense of "we stand together, even in death" realization. Whatever it is, I wouldn't be surprised if he is truly gone. But if he's not, I only question the true end game of the Final Shape. Also it doesn't seem like Cayde is back on some "comical relief" path. But more on a serious "I do this for Family" path. Which alludes to me that he is probably only "alive" for the moment until the deed is done.

My first theory is that the inside of the Traveller is Valhalla for guardians. Then... my second theory is... What if the inside of the Traveller gives Guardians the ability to make their "nightmares" into dreams that become real, such as Ikora wishing for Cayde to be alive and him actually coming to life because of it. This would be the opposite of the pyramid ships.

I think that whenever a guardian is resurrected, a copy of them is saved inside the traveler to be used as the "main", and the ghosts create a copy of the guardian whenever they die. Ghosts in this way also work as an antenna, sending information back to the "main". They're not generally resurrecting guardians as much as creating a new copy.

I remember that interview with Fillion. They told him Cayde is dead and he had the this bewildered look that he tried to brush off professionally. Fillion: “How do I feel about Cayde-6? I absolutely love him. How do I feel about that character dying? I don’t personally believe it. He’s a Guardian. He should be able to come back. I mean, that’s their whole thing, they come back, right? The whole thing is the resurrection.”

I always think back the Savathun 2 lies and a truth thing where she said "your destiny lies beyond this system" I think this is what she meant

Cayde knew that Tankis was still alive, so he decide to take matters into his own hands. That's why he is back.

I think it’s possible for traveller heaven theory, or the original garden lol, but I personally think that this is a different timeline cayde, he’s a little different than the one we know, he’s more worn down and slightly different colors, he’s emoting light, and his gun appears reassembled, but we still have it whole. And most of all, cayde calls ikora’s kiddo, but she’s older than our cayde. I think this one is a cayde who survived forsaken but everyone else died in later events.

My thought is that like the nightmares (which Ikora never beat her nightmare) it's the travelers version. It was even said "where our ancestors dream/exist" which may mean that it was the dream of Ikora to have Cayde back, so he came back.

Wild theory!!!! Remember when Cayde got stuck in the time contract with the vex? What if a part of him ends up here in the space between Time and space the “garden” and the whole time the vex are trying to get to the garden?

Hearing Cayde's voice again gave me chills. It's hard to believe this journey is quickly coming to an end. I hope D3 will be a real and different. Maybe the destiny that was promised so many years ago

We all know the witness used the veil to gain access to the traveler so what is stopping us from doing the same, theoretically speaking we could use the veil to do the same thing considering that both the veil and the traveler are sources of light energy albeit different forms of light. So with that in mind it is just a matter of either paracausel energy or something of the like that would hinder us from gaining access to the traveler.

about the river - to quote Asher Mir "AND IT IS *NOT* A METAPHORE!* it is also worth mentioning that all nightmares are dead people, which confirms to the river theory. maybe the witness and the disciples can use the darkness in their own ways to summon vengeful spirits of the dead. even the locust of communion is an amalgamation of dead scorn bound together through the crown of sorrow.

I’m thinking that the portal we see may be similar to what created the Awoken Distributary. The word “distributary” itself means a branch of a river that diverts from the main flow of water, and we know the Awoken home world was created by a collision of Light and Dark energies, just like the portal in the Traveler. Another thing to note is that because Mara Sov was the first sentient being to enter the Distributary, the whole realm was formed from her own thoughts, to the point she could truly be considered a god in that domain. As if the Witness wasn’t already OP enough

Maybe its a hallucination ikora is having. She still has her ghost so its possible she figured out a way through. Either way that cayde is different than the cayde we carried in our arms after he was killed. Im sure we will get more lore throughout this season that can maybe give us a better idea of what is truly going on here. Theres spoilers on the origins of the witness, which 100% tie into this final shape reveal. dont watch the video. Just a heads up in case anyone sees people talking about it.

if you think about it his ace of spades is glowing just like how the travelers chosen sidearm glows once you get all ten light kills with it

I'm still convinced there is a massive twist coming now we access to time travel... Zavala has been losing faith in the traveller and had his beliefs in the light and who can wield it destroyed. He's becoming bitter with grief... What if he is the witness, events take him to the point where he loses his mind and seeks to put everything right all at the same time.

Wait what if it’s the awoken conservatory? Evaze mentioned that the portal was created by the merging of light and dark, that’s the exact same thing that happened to the awoken, not to mention, Cayde died in the tangled shore, the closest place to where the conservatory opened

If it is a guardian afterlife, maybe every dead guardian could still fight the witness.

My theory,the Witness is on the war path to kill the Traveler (duh),and the Traveler revives Cayde,a familiar face to the guardians,useing him as an physical conduit to help in the fight.

I have a theory that cayde is the traveller's chosen champion kinda like an avatar to stop the witness because in destiny, there's an exotic weapon called the "traveller's chosen" and when you 10 stack the effect light spills out of it like cayde and his weapon so maybe the traveller's resurrected him to stop the final shape

Ive only been playing Destiny for a short time compared to most of you. Cayde has only been a voice in old Strikes and an occasional NPC refrence. So me hearing his sarcasm. So for me having only heard Cayde's voice and wish i could have known him (in person) in game, I am so excited he's returning.

Your videos are always thought provoking lol and with this one I had an idea. What if we guardians are actually the creatures of darkness but the dark is so deep all we see is the light and vice versa they are creatures of light but it’s so bright all we see is the darkness! With paracausality it makes sense. It would also explain why when we are brought back with a ghost we can’t remember our past and why darkness is associated with memories

Seeing the portal is made of light and dark my theory is the ghost are just mini versions of that portal. The travel acts as a storage unit for the gaurdians and the ghost is pulling them back everytime a gaurdian dies, using that logic of the wormhole. Seeing other species be blessed by the traveler yet not with ghosts, the traveler made the decision of giving humanity the ghosts to fight on its behalf wich we know. The traveler was desperate we know, comprised it's own ideals for survival. Wich has been used not just in destiny but in a former bungie game of halo. The arbiter stood up proclaimed the halos weren't the way to heaven for his people to survive forcing his outcast.

I think this place is the inside of the traveler and I think that once a guardian had their final death in our world The Traveler essentially brings them back inside of the traveler to live out a peaceful life for the chosen Guardians. A Guardians final resting place basically

I feel like Cayde is the product of Light and Dark, with the Darkness's aspects of memory and the Light's aspects of return and revival. Just a thought.

As you said, Cayde seems to be teeming with light....but no ghost. The traveler would be the only one able to do that as far as we know like when the traveler "woke up" and previously when it broke free from ghaul. Even though it's currently hamstrung by the witness and that portal.

Nightmares and memories are two halves of the same ability, channeled through the darkness. As the difference between light and dark doesn't matter: how we use each is what matters. As lucent brood are lightbears, like us. The memories/nightmares are how one manifests darkness. (Thats just a theory... a Game Theory!)

This is just my theory but as much Lore as there is in the Destiny world I think the devs can just make up any Lore to bring him back to life and it'll still make sense. Lastly, I think they brought him back because of Lance Reddick's passing, I think they needed someone strong, loveable and can pull everyone together and hold it down and that's where Cayde comes in. Don't get me wrong Ikora is pretty damn strong herself, but I don't think she can do it alone. But hey that's just me.

I literally called this back in 2018 when I watched the cutscene of Cayde dying. "They're gonna use some alternate universe paradox or some shit to bring him back to life." People kept saying that they wouldn't. And now here we are.

Others have theorized that Cayde was not resurrected via a river of souls or in the portal, but from some other dimension. I believe they called it, "the Negative Steam Reviews". Not sure what that's about.

Caydes got some new things about him aside from his gun and flowing with light. It seems like his face color is more green now than the metalic sky blue of the past. Along with his fancy new holster which might just be there to explain how hunters keep their hand cannons on the side of their thighs. The rest of his outfit looks almost the same accept for some minor details that get changed in every cinematic. The most striking thing is deff the face color.

I think it is like Mara or the instances of his death by the mindbender( a throneworld). If his death give the bender a throne world or Mara was able to create her own when she died. So, can the traveler( or the puppeteer of the traveler) have a thronewold and if u were given the light could u be brought here when killed?

If nightmares are conjurations of the darkness, then dreams are conjurations of the light. (Dream/exist) so the only thing i can think is that it's some kind of afterlife. The garden (like the garden of eden). No guardian is alive when found. The ghost revives the body with light. So potentially the garden is possibly an afterlife for guardians? Theres no telling where this might go

During the presage, exotic mission when you hear his voice, it is extremely creepy.

I always thought that the black garden was the original garden because of the remains of what look like a tree of silver wings in the background, maybe that the black garden is a creation of the vex like they tried to duplicate it and the land we see in the trailer is the actual garden.

My theory is they are in Guardian heaven/hell possibly inside the traveler. this is where Guardians go when they "die" this is where their light/soul goes/lives. Guardians are always connected through the traveler once revived for the first time.

Not just that. The memories he was experiencing was before the Golden Age. The Ares project was the first ever cutscene of the 3 astronauts on mars discovering the traveler. It’s also canonical that the discovery of the traveler was in 2014. Eric walks among us. Eric is the chosen one

You will see where I'm going with this in a second, but remember when brother Vance discovered the sound that a guardian makes through the lighthouse when experiencing his or her true death is different than the sound that the lighthouse makes when a guardian dies and then is resurrected via ghost. So I think that the key to getting through the portal maybe a certain frequency of sound and the key Is that the traveler reached out for and gave us the root of nightmares raid to unlock the portal yes as a key but maybe some type of tuning fork releasing a certain sound frequency allowing us to go through the same way the witness did. does anyone have any thoughts on my predictions?

I think the reason why at the beginning of this season the titan fused with its ship trying to pass through the portal, and why Cayde is back are related. The titan is living (technically) the ship is not, perhaps the portal, or the traveler itself cannot tell the difference between living and dead, thus the titan fused with its ship, and the dead still live inside it (presumption on my part. REMEMBER: Traveler gives us the power of paracausal energy creation. If it gives EACH guardian this power, then it can be assumed that its own power can take the causality of dying, and deny that natural truth with paracausality. That or Cayde is like... A spirit backup that is uploaded to the Traveler by ghosts, and this is how we are reborn over and over.

It makes logistical sense, we've lost Lance which only left one of the original three. Bringing Cayde back fills a rather important role. Hinting at it now shows the intention.

Since light and dark create this portal. It makes me think that after all this confusion, the Veil is kind of just the darknesses version of the traveler. Such an easy thing to explain

i think the place that cayde and ikora are in the trailer is the distributary, the home planet and universe of the awoken. the distributary is a universe where time flows differently and it was created due to a blackhole generated from a battle between light and dark as they fought over the "yang liwei" the colony ship that had the humans that would eventually become the awoken on a mission to find a habitable planet during the golden age.

am I the only one who thinks that this portal may be the first portal they tried to put on the traveler on the witness origins leak?

I did notice that Ophiuchus (Ikora's ghost) appears differently in this teaser cutscene; I suspect it may have just been an oversight by the directors and animators, but might be worth noting nevertheless, given the developers' and writers' consistent attention to detail!

I think Bungie is hinting at Ikoras death her soul gets transported to the garden to see Cayde 6 who awaits on her.

that lore part for the guardian joxer makes me wonder why they couldnt animate the whole part of that happening. youd never guess or even know his name unless you read some lore and its frustrating because that shouldve just been in the cutscene

I have a feeling the witness is trying to go back to the beginning of the collapse to rectify a mistake that caused it to not complete it's task. This may well be the segway that leads to Destiny 3 and we may take our guardian back to the Golden age or the time of the collapse.

I still need to figure what I’m going to do with my hunter who started wearing Cayde’s cloak after he died and my Warlock he started using the Ace. Like in my own little story for them and it all depends on if he’s a construct or a physical resurrection.

What if this is a hint to Ikora's death? What if she dies and we see this cutseen as her way of coming to terms with her death. The laws of the universe have already been set, so if something cannot be destroyed but instead transformed then this would explain how they both are in this place. And to clearify, i ask these questions as a rhetorical "what if" but it is nevertheless a interesting theory

Don't forget Ikora has been seing Caydes nightmare and unlike Zavala and the others choose not to exercise hers which is speculated to be none other than Cayde-6.

Have you seen the leaked cutscene it tells of the origin of the witness and what the veil is(the darkness version of the traveler) the witness wanted to combine both light and dark so they can alter reality to how they see fit so maybe ikora gets through and alters caydes death to where he never died
