Coalescence and Con Lentitud are in a lot of ways brother tracks, which makes sense considering each plays as a sort of lead up to the big boss of each game if I recall correctly. Big Boss in 1 is Providence, and big boss in 2 is Mithrix. They are brothers. Also a lot of tracks from RoR1 got parts used in the making of the RoR2 OST. So there is also that.

By the way, those four descending notes you linked to coalescence, is the core motif of all the songs in both risk of rain 1 and 2. They are in every song, but Chris manipulates them in different ways to create different sounds, like pitch shifts, reversing, ascending notes, mirroring, the list is endless, but it's always there!

"I finally won!" I exclaimed once I had broken the King of Nothing. His body giving way and turning to dust, to nothing. The moon begins to shake and rupture! All the while this song plays in my ears as the rain falls around me. I look down at myself, my flesh melded with steel, wires, beast, fungi... I'm not even sure if I have blood anymore. I've become more monstrous than any of the hundreds of thousands I've killed... I give one more look back as I board my escape ship. "I won... Right?"

I think once of the best ways to sum up Coalescence and Con Lentitud Poderosa was 2 comments, one left on each video several years apart by 2 separate users that just ties both the songs and the endings of the games so perfectly. Coalescence was "The sound of realizing there's blood on your hands." Con Lentitud Poderosa was "Realizing that blood will never wash away." To me, that sums up the story of Providence and Mithrix.

Small but extremely important note to make with everyone's already fantastic information about this song: In the build up from 2's early access to release to finish, Christopher PROMISED us that we were not gonna be getting ROR1 music, and most especially he was NOT going to be remaking Coalescence. It couldn't be done. How could that be topped or recaptured in any way. So please, please imagine our surprise for when we first got "The Rain Formerly Known As Purple," which it and it's stage were based on the equivalent stage of the original game... And then 1.0 released. And with it, the final stage. You teleport into an expansive, wide open chamber. It is dark and silent. There are no enemies, there is only one path forward, along a staggering ramp that, even at this stage of the game, you are likely to still take some time to climb. And, slowly, the piano begins to kick in... This track is timed perfectly well for most players to experience in their first time with the trickling additions culminating to the full payoff as you emerge from the chambers into the open space of the floating asteroid, and your objective is ahead of you. And, as far as 1.0 goes at least, there is a single path. You are now being assaulted by enemies you have never seen before, and they hurt. You have a single direction, with some branching paths, but your goal is in view. Much like Risk Of Rain & Coalesence.

ALSO!!! These videos are released by Chris himself, so another fun tidbit: All the images in these videos were, in fact, the splash screens for each proceeding update from Early Access all the way to full launch!!! So the slow, strong progression matches up with the path it has taken to get here!!! The extra touch from Chris is big and endearing for people who have been here since the beginning.

Finally, it's here! Love that you picked up on the motif between this and Coalescence, it's not as outwardly apparent with the sequel's OST, but the first Risk Of Rain in particular was made with that same recurring theme throughout most of its songs. Chris did a soundtrack behind-the-scenes for the entire album of the first game years back on his soundcloud, and it was a lot of fun to listen to his commentary! I'd recommend checking it out, but it obviously has to do with the OST so you have that conflict of interest. Otherwise, great track that stands on its own! Also, I don't know who can say that the game doesn't live up to its OST, sounds like a skill issue.

I hate that for as much as I love the soundtrack my brain doesnt place them from when I was playing. I always just go "I remember that song playing and it was rad!" Game is a roguelike with insane powercreep, is very fun when you get good rolls on the boxes and have an OP monster of a character. RoR 1 was 2D and RoR2 was a big 3D adaptation of the formula. Its a run based game not a story based one. Theres fun lore to be found in enemy bestiaries and stuff and item descriptions, but its all about playing(alone or with friends) and trying to get super strong without dying until you reach the end..

So you are not far off at all, this song plays in the final stage right before the final boss (the song for that fight is You're going to need a bigger ukelele) and I think the ending credits song is just basically a mellow run of this song called Lacrimosum (which funny enough contains the sound of rain). I had no idea what the title meant and it was so cool to learn that, it's super fitting. This song is basically a leading courageous stand before the final boss. I know everyone pointed out the final bosses of both games being brothers. Chris does such a great job with Motifs cause then the final boss music has a lot of motifs with RoR1 This has easily been one of my favorite songs the last few years.

The soundtrack fits perfectly with the game. By the games design it ramps up over time as things slowly get further and further out of hand until the point of insanity and that philosophy applies to both the player and the enemies you face. Its essentially an arms race between you and the game. In addition to the overarching scheme of the game, this is also the case as you go from stage to stage as things start out calm and get more intense the longer you stick around which is why so many of these songs start out mellow and chill and then pick up in the second half. With the game being a roguelite and with runs lasting anywhere between an hour to multiple hours, you become invested in it which is expressed by a lot of the emotion that you can feel in these tracks.

You're basically right about them both being conclusive. They are the final stage themes for both ror1, and ror2, leading up to the final bosses, who are brothers. Providence, and Mithrix's shared backstory is very intriguing. When these tracks play, there is a huge sense of finality. I personally love risk of rain 2, i've 100%'d the game and put hundreds of hours in. I cannot get enough of the gameplay loop, nor the soundtrack. This game is basically crack to most people who play it.

Risk of Rain 1 and 2 both fall in the Roguelike genre. Which means the gameplay is sort of the same but it changes slightly depending on the items you pick up during the stages. It's a fun time passer I think. Not a lot of brain power to play it and it can also be the most chaotic thing you play. Honestly I love this game but I do take huge breaks from it (months of breaks) due to repetitiveness Hope this helps with your question about the game :)

The game is great. Though it's a little frenetic so it's not for everyone. I suggest giving it a try, your first run playing it on the easy 'Drizzle' difficulty and then immediately turning it up to Normal after your first death after having gotten used to the flow. Just remember that the longer you take to finish a level, the harder it will get before you're ready for it. It's a matter of time management and efficiency.

I think the emotion behind this song is what probably got it so many requests. It’s my favorite song in the game for sure. The first time I went down that long corridor and experienced this building up to eventually getting hunted down by enemies truly had me awe-struck. I legit got emotional from the song, especially with how difficult it was for me to reach that final stage for the first time. I can’t speak for anyone else, but the mix of the gameplay experience and the downpour of emotion that this song showers you with makes it top tier for me.

I haven't seen it in the comments yet, so let me try to do it justice "...con lentitud pederosa" translates to "...with a powerful slowness." These are the words written in the Argentinian short story "The Immortal." The full sentence is *"It rained with a powerful slowness"* The story details a population of men who achieved immortality, only to lose all sense of conscientiousness as they slowly droned through a life that had nothing left to give them. Only occasionally could something come along to snap them out of their hypnotized gaze. One day, such an event happened. A storm came. All the men looked up, overjoyed, rushing into the downpour. They felt alive again! "It rained with a powerful slowness"

So this will always be my favorite track in the RoR2 ost, because RoR1 was a big game with my friends and we enjoyed it to death so it has a special place in my heart. Now slight spoiler bit here, but you nailed it on the head. Coalescence and Con Lentitude are both the final area songs because in RoR1 the final boss was Providence and in RoR2 it's Mithrix who were brothers. Also during the video there were the changing images that represented all the past updates since this track came out with the final update for base game (there were smaller ones after but this was the last big one). So essentially all of those images were a homage to the game ending with the poster image for RoR1 (if you look at the title you can also see the 2 fade out when the ror1 image pops up). Lastly on my tangent, the original version of the final stage was specifically set up to have the slow piano play as you walk through a corridor, only for it to hit that drop when you exit and see the FULL area and it was amazing.

The ... actually comes from the fact that it's part of a quote. "It rained, with a great and powerful slowness." I also really think you should check out some of the Survivors of the Void stuff. "Once in a lullaby" is really cool, with some horn sections. And in regards to why this was so highly requested, it's because of how it compliments the gameplay so much. A gray, wide landscape, with sharp architecture, and strange creatures. You've made it to the Moon, and the only stage where it's raining. As the slow section plays, you're traveling down a long tunnel. And as you reach the end of the tunnel, the second part opens up as you see what I described before. It's actually so beautiful that I teared up when I heard it, and that never ever happens with me. And in regards with gameplay to OST not matching up, it's absolutely wrong. The art direction and gameplay are perfectly complimentary. So complimentary that they actually changed the layout of the stage in which "... con lentitud poderosa" plays to better compliment the song. I'd say that this also pairs nicely with "The Rain Formerly Known as Purple". If you ever see a picture or gameplay of The Sky Meadows, you'd feel as if the song couldn't play anywhere else.

What I really like about your connection of the titles of coalescence and this one is that coalescence is the gathering of things to form a large mass, and con lentitud poderosa means "with powerful slowness". Joining these two you get things gathering together to form a large mass, with powerful slowness. This to me not only talks about the music itself, with both starting with few instruments and building, but also the game, which is about gathering items and slowly getting stronger, becoming a large mass, of power. And the build up of your entire journey through the run, culminating/building to the final stage, where these two songs play.

Saying the game doesn't live up to the soundtrack is a weird take to me. The music of the game ties so heavily into the experience that the soundtrack can't be so easily divorced from the game. This sound track was made for the game, not insulting other game soundtracks but the music feels like it was handcrafted to enhance the the gameplay. It just feels like someone heard the sound track first and then didn't like the game. Risk of Rain isn't for everyone. I am curious if you would do a reaction to seeing gameplay for the first time, see how it compares to the game as you imagine it just from the music.

I love this track, coalescence and The Rain Formerly Known as Purple SO MUCH MORE after knowing all the little pieces that connect them to the lore. and the whole soundtrack of both games, really, but those three in particular. Nerding out here, but you can apply lore reasons as to why the songs all have shared motifs but sound sometimes wildly different or sometimes odd when paired with the motif. i view it as the motif of Providence. he saved all these creatures from their destruction. and coalescence is providence in the flesh. there he is. right in front of you. you knew echoes before, but now you can see him there. and i find coalescence is sad because Providence has slowly lost his glory and care. he just became a violent and frightening god. The Rain Formerly Known as Purple, is obviously to some, a reference to Prince, and his song Purple Rain. which the lyrics to, are actually important to the lore. as Mithrix and Providence were brother gods, but wanted and cared about opposing things. but they both cared about one another. and when they were about to reach what could have been their greatest accomplishment, Mithrix had been horrible to Providence, said and did some awful things. so Providence used their creation to imprison Mithrix, so he could never get in the way and harm innocent creatures again. But all mithrix wanted was the best for his brother. he just thought his brother's ways were childish. this is reflected in the lyrics of the Prince song. and throughout the lore, mithrix becomes furious and vengeful, vowing to get out and destroy everything. and when you, the player come and fight him, he is blinded by rage until his final moments. i view Con lentitud poderosa as mithrix stuck, alone in his cell for god only knows how long, going mad with the silence and anger. as well as the tragedy of these two brothers, and lastly, i view it as him realizing in his final moments that it was all for nothing. and he wishes he could have been there for his brother.

Other things on RU-vid I like to Super Chat sometimes and I am not rich. Not in danger of becoming homeless, but even so. See I decided to delete my Discord account for reasons and would prefer to not open new one anytime soon.

Hello, requests are through Patreon or Paypal, I never pick my own songs, they're all from others paid requests. The only way to skip the line is the Platinum tier I offer on Patreon otherwise it's just a long wait cause I have so many. Discord is just for my community to chat.

The music carries the games. It's one of the most noticeable things when you're actually playing the games which on their own are standard indie gamey game fare. They can be fun under the right circumstances I guess.

Check out Chris's commentary on the album. Very beautiful inspiration for the song. Absolutely perfect piece

this song just embodied the title of the boss you are about to fight: The King of Nothing.
