The issue with that always comes down to stability. It might be possible to just put spinners on top to push it down when accelerating. Looking at how this guy designs a tank engine, he would probably put several gear sets in that can move at different speeds to accelerate like shifting gears, which would greatly decrease its top speed from the weight of it all. Also put spinners in front and behind for maximum push.
"I've made a whole bunch of engines before but this time I wanna try making my own" guys Reid has confirmed that Reid is not Reid, because Reid(who is not Reid(who is Reid)) made engines that Reid did not, as Reid (not Reid who is not Reid) claimed to have not made any, so this leaves us with the question: who is Reid (not Reid but Reid) and why did Reid (real) give Reid (who is not Reid (real)) permission to post Reid content made by Reid (not Reid) on Reid's Reid channel for Reid (not Reid who is not Reid) to post Reid videos to?
Reid (not Reid who is not Reid) gave Reid (who is not Reid) permission because Reid (who is not Reid) told Reid (Not Reid who is not Reid) that it'll be funny, and therefore Reid (not Reid who is not Reid) gave Reid (who is not Reid) permission to post on Reid's (not Reid who is not Reid) channel. Hope that clears some stuff up
The concept of this game is really good, but the gears are too glitchy for my taste... When it comes to physics sandboxes i didn't see any real improvements over the years... Gears in half life 2 would probably work just as good.
I mean, the game isn't built for entire engines to be built in it, if you actually want to build something accurate you probably want to use tools that were made for building those things which, surprisingly, does not include a lot of games
Honestly seeing how much and fast you have grown as a channel is amazing to me, your videos are amazing and I hope you continue to make such great videos.
I love this build, though i feel like the track performance could have been improved by only keeping the sprocket (driven gear) and idler (non-driven gear) wheels, and replaced the middle one with either one big normal wheel or a smaller handful of normal wheels. In doing so you would lessen the number of places teeth are directly engaging with the track, creating less points for binding up and providing a smoother ride, in theory. Definite major bonus points for track tensioning the tried and true tanker way: just push out the idler wheel until the track is correctly tensioned. Always love seeing the chaos of a new build. Cheers.
very cool. Also, if you ever need to use tracks again I'd recommend widening them, might help with traction/grip as well as keep them from falling off as much. (idk besiege well at all; this is just based on tanks in the real world)
Humans have tried inventing an armored all-terrain vehicle for many hundreds of years with limited success only to finally nail it down in the turn of the 20th century because this is what it takes to make an engine with treads capable of carrying a large cannon and armor plating. It's a very tedious engineering science to figure out and learn and perfect because of the insane logistics that go into each and every gear, piston, drive shaft, motor, etc. It's so many complicated parts coming together and working together just to accomplish the goal of a large bulletproof vehicle that shoots a massive projectile, and that's just by itself, god forbid another tank shoots those treads or some soldier jams a pipe or grenade right in there and screws up soooooo much work. The engineering that goes into such monster vehicles is absolutely precious art, you did an amazing job building this by yourself all historical and scientific things considered
I’m relatively familiar with tank in Besiege and for vanilla yours is really good. Tank treads are infamously awful in Besiege and are know to break but yours manages to go up that lip super easily. Great work.
I’d have recommended little “running wheels” I think they’re called, small free flowing gears underneath the tread, they’re in a location that forces the tension in the tread and allows it to run a little easier.
cool build! gonna be that guy and say it, the gears at 90 degrees are called bevel gears, planetary gears are concentric, sun gear in the middle, planetary gears around that, and a ring gear around that.
This was a random similar video on my sidebar, and my brain immediately started melting. No idea what he's talking about, but I like all the fancy moving parts
I think a bicycle would be Pretty cool to see in besiege and testing how the bike will keep itself upright when it has some speed. I explained this badly but Veritasium has a cool video on it called “Most People Don’t Know How Bikes Work”. What I’m talking about starts at about 5:36
I havent played in so long, there are all these new functions that i am like "WHAT IS HAPPENING DUDE" Like, the sensors and timers, balloon blocks, and all that stuff. When i stopped playing, i remember the last blcoks added were stuff like the firework
I think you could get away with a front gear drive if you added a front gear that doesn't touch the ground, so it wouldn't push the track on the ground. The piston solution is actually a real thing in some tanks. I think that's all I can think of from my experience with tanks (I was the gunner so I don't have a lot more knowledge about this part of the tank). Loved the engine btw, beautiful!
Programmable two-stage ballistic missile. By rotating gears manually before launch, you can key in altitude, when it will turn and plateau, when/if the second stage kicks in, and when it lands.
The thing drifting left is just besiege. The physics lean left in a minuscule amount but seems to be exacerbated by large machines with many moving parts.
With my current knowledge about this game, of which I haven't played yet, this video has brought a question into my mind: Why does it need an engine and why are there so many gears
You can attach grip pads to the outside of the treads to improve grip Works beautifully in all my treaded designs. Tbh I havent done an engine powered one yet so you might not have enough power, but it's worth a shot
if you would be able to build a very fast car that can move (as said fast but also) without problems on hills or a gatling gun with the method of shooting like the canon from the tank but with automatic reload system only one of those ideas would make me happy because you are very good at this (great video)
As someone who only played besiege when it first came out, how tf did y’all get so good. Just casually built an engine in the first five minutes of the video. I’m sure it took longer but like, what. How.
Dammit now i wanna play besiege. I remember making a bunch of stuff. My favorite was a bike thingy, but it used 4 wheels that weee almost meshing, so it looked like 2 extra wide wheels. It was based on this one bike in the workshop, with a really unique suspension system that i ended up modifying to create a simpler bike
normally there are gears that are smaller then the big once on the top tentioning the threads. i think the big gears only have suspension in them but i'm not sure.... but i think this because this would allow the thread to get more slack when going over a tree truck for example because it can push in the suppension with enough force
Nice video, even though i have 1700h and im starting to get consistantly bored of besiege because of the lack of updates your videos are still very enjoyable to watch, nice work, could you try and make the strongest cannon you can in vanilla? That would be awesome
