Detailed Howto Update Taranis Firmware and Bootloader to OpenTX 2.2.2. - EEPROM Warning Fix 

I can't find any reason why I should update the XJT Firmware. Can you?

I moved out of country and had to give away everything RC I owned BUT I kept my Taranis just in case. Well, now trying to get back into the hobby.

This was good, you only "think" you're catching up.....I just started the hobby and have been having a devil of a time with a new x9dpse2019.....until your well detailed, 2 1/2 year old video. While a few little things are different between my radio and yours, and the time since you recorded this, this video worked for me to finally get the thing updated. Now I get the immense pleasure of torturing myself to get the radio updated, the modules I have updated, the receivers.......and on and on. Thank you.

Ok, great video. I updated the open tx version on the radio fine. I was doing great till I got up to the loading of the firmware to the SD card (at the 12:00 mark in the video) I must be downloading the wrong file to the card because when I do I get this on the opening screen, “SD Card warning Expected version 2.2v0018.” Once I click a key to get rid of that warning and then try to flash the firmware, I do not get the option to flash boot loader, only copy, paste or delete. Where/what file should I be copying to the SD card. The only one I saw that downloaded was “open tx-x9d+-lua-flex9m-en.bin”. Where am I screwing up? Thanks for your help.

Very nice guide to upgrade Firmware and Bootloader ! (No need update XJT.) but If you still use D8 mode receiver do not select "eu" in Build option when download Firmware. i have to flash my 2nd time without "eu" to OpenTx 2.3.11.

I have this radio and It says when flying telemetry lost and then recovered few ties when in the air even when plane is near, do you think it may be issue with firmware as i tried two different crossfire modules and still same?

How did you get the old versions. I updated my internal Module and now it will not work with my new reciever and I don't wan to have to update all my other devices. My External XJT and Reciever works fine but can't use the internal

I tried updating my X9D plus a few years ago,made a mistake by having it connected to my pc and it started vibrating very bad and finally guit.Now nothing works on it and won't take a charge.Can it be fixed?

at 10:50 , you open an sd card folder that we've never talked about ??? How would you get it ???

When I try to read to the Tx it says it no Tx connected and shows me how to connect it, but the Tx says connected to PC. Might be a driver issue? Anyone have any advice?

I have the X9D Plus and I am very happy with it. However, I would like to get a second radio and I am thinking of getting another x9d Plus or maybe the SE version. That said, I see that some dealers offer a EU version!? What is that all about? Do I need the EU version when flying in Europe? Am I breaking any laws using my US version in Europe? Does anyone know? This radio is a bear. Haven't done any rc for years. Had got the radio and took a break from it. So now , all I want to do is figure out what version of firmware is installed. Was looking at some tiny quads and one had an option to choose spi frsky receiver. So I go to the radio, and now hours later wandering around the internet trying to figure out what version of firmware is on the radio. Gosh what a project.

how does this work with the didderent receiver updates? I did one update on my recovery along time ago. will the receivers still work with this update?

I updated my x9 lite firmware to the 6/15 date. That helped me to bind to my new toothpick. I struggled for hours with windows 10 USB troubleshooting. I got ambitious and upgraded my RX on the x9 to the 2.1.0 version. It stopped all receiving everything. It worked seconds before. I went back a year for firmware and the controls worked again. Where is the consortium that makes standards that everyone must follow? Like IEEE for electronic devices. We don't need 20 protocols! Bill Gates could make this Plug N Play if you are willing to sell your soul...and private info.

Sorry to revisit an oldie, but from my searches this HowTo seems semi-suitable for my skill level. What am I missing running openTx 2.2.1? This is what came with the new-to-me Taranix X9D Plus, and I am uber nervous about the drama I am headed for if my attempt to update goes sideways. Also, relevant: I am 100% new to OpenTX ... I have a DragonLink V2 system with three receivers I would like to use. TIA to anyone that takes a moment to offer suggestions! STEEP learning curve!

I did the boot loader and SD card update and bricked my 2014 Taranis X9D. Or whatever it's called. Luckily I had the old Companion and saved file to reload and the model recent saved file for the 40 models I have loaded already or I would have been screwed!!!!!! I guess mine is too old?

Ufffff... It's a bit different for X9D+2019.. I bricked the TX for a minute... than successfully loaded the firmware from SD... a big relief :)

How the heck did you roll back fw?? Plz.

I wish you would have said what all the things you were deleting did and what was going to replace them and was everything going to work as before or what was going to happen or need to be changed to get things to work. What happens to the modified sound packs.............etc.

Since I have updated it I have all kind of Problems :( I really dontn know what to do!!! I have been on opentx and download and guess what more problems....

Nice video! My question is I'm not getting the option to write bootloader. Just copy, rename, delete is all that comes up. I want to go from 3 2.2.1 to 2.2.3. Firmware updated just fine though.

When I go into the Firmware on the SD card and try to update the Bootloader I do NOT get a Flash Bootloader option. Any ideas ???

After updates of open TX to 2.2.2, V8FR-II recovers won't bind.

Thanks - I think! You do not make it easy for any semi-literate (older!) computer person to follow what you are doing, because you keep whizzing the cursor round and round the screen, not making it clear just WHAT you are clicking on! I nearly wore out the freeze-frame button! It doesn't help when your opsys screens look very different to mine, and functionality is different - so you get different drop-boxes to those I see. Despite that, with a bit of prod and hope, and guesswork, I've updated 2.1.1 to the latest 2.2.4 on my X9D+. BUT there is no way I've found yet to update the SD card, via the USB. I can read it, but cannot write to it! I'm going to have to find an adapter board, and try to drag and drop directly through an SD card socket on the pc.

Many folks in the Taranis world are accepting this as normal. I don’t, I’m a tech guy (retired industrial tech, TTL, PLC’s, etc) and this is nonsense. Boot-loader, are they serious, are we in1985 and working with DOS? Not your fault, but still nonsense. Originally I was excited to receive my new QX7, but disappointment with the awkwardness of the firmware/software soon set in. After about six months I bailed. Sold the QX7 and went back to Spektrum.

You say this video is about UPDATING a Taranis, you have already gone back to old firmware so you can show us the process, so why are'nt you showing us how to update the XJT firmware??? whether it needs updating or not is irrelevent. Cheers

You have to realize people are trying to follow you so zipping the mouse around grabbing files without telling me where these files are......
