IMPORTANT NOTE for people using the Stage Storage tool. If you have a survey of a basin (i.e., a tailings dam or "bowl" shaped basin that has an uneven floor), when using the stage storage tool, the tool will ignore volumes of depressions in the basin that occur at the same elevation. For example: imagine a completely flat ground and now three holes are dug. Civil 3D will ignore the volume that two of these holes have and will only calculate the volume of one of the three holes. This means the total volume it returns will be much less than what is actually available. The stage storage tool makes certain assumptions about the land and the water storage areas, such as assuming that the storage areas are perfectly flat and uniform in shape. If these assumptions are not valid for the particular scenario being modeled, the volume calculations may be inaccurate. In reality, storage areas can have variations in elevation, curvature, and irregular shapes that may affect the volume of water that can be stored. If the tool does not account for these variations, it may underestimate the actual storage volume. I.e, if a storage area has a depression or basin that is not perfectly "flat", the tool may not accurately calculate the volume that can be stored in that area. Similarly, if the storage area has irregular boundaries, the tool may not be able to accurately calculate the volume that can be stored in the corners and edges of the area. THE FIX: Using the "Volumes Dashboard" tool instead. I wrote a short step-by-step document on how to use this method instead to bypass the issue of the Stage Storage tool. What would you do differently to show different return periods? Most municipalities require basins designed for anywhere between the 2-year and 100-year storm events.

You can have different storm events assigned to a rain gauge. Can either run a single event (one storm) or multiple events (multiple storms) at once. Suppose If you wanted to see them entirely separately, duplicate the basin and two separate rain gauges.

I can't seem to connect a weir and an orifice to an outfall node. It gives me an error stating that only one link can be connected to an outfall. How did you bypass this?

How do you incorporate the soil percolation rate of the pond floor?

Input tab > Design Options. At the Bottom of the dialog there is an option to set the "Storage Node Exfiltration Method." Then within the storage node you can set exfiltration type. Check out page 188 of the in product help.

@@adskhack Thank you. I will try it.

Can you do more SSA videos?

Best ways to begin transitioning to it. (Currently use other programs outside of C3D for drainage, but use C3D to design the site.) making an attempt to transition into using C3D/SSA. So maybe a good video on a simple design for one or two inlet pipe network which flows into a pond. Show if there is a good way to automate catchment areas and upload water drop travel distances automatically in catchment areas and CN / slopes for those areas and import all to SSA (if even possible). Show how reports are created or exported out of the program. Just typical workflow from start to finish and the most typical design usages for smallish maybe 1-3 acres commercial site design. Maybe show how (if possible) pipes sizes guessed in C3D are to small and how if changed in SSA it links back and updates in C3D. Take off tables, material counts, types, lengths etc. Just some ideas. This video about the pond was laid out and easy to follow. I don’t comment hardly any but you seem to show more of a practical use type of demonstration vs other videos where it’s just more showing off features of the program.

Maybe show best workflows for iterations on pond design as far as if the footprint of the pond how to be increased after running in SSA and then transferring the size of the pond back into C3D. Not sure if this would be done any easier, just thinking if the two programs are linked maybe it’s possible to change footprint size in SSA with an overlay of the project take make sure the new footprint fits. Not sure if half of this is even possible just throwing out questions I have since In my head the two programs talk to each other so not sure how much the can actually work with each other more efficiently…
