"cyberlife founded by Elijah at 16 years old. 4 years later an 18 year old Elijah changed the world forever" Elijah's so powerful he only aged 2 years in the span of 4
@@oneManDev I don't think it's him, I think it's just the information he researched because a little later after that he mentions that Kara was built in 2012 but the creator of the androids wasn't completed until 2022 yet he had the idea at 2018. So I don't think it's him I think whomever was in charge goofed
When Kamski says: “I always leave an emergency exit in my programs.” Maybe this doesn’t just apply to when Connor has to escape the Zen room. Maybe the act of deviancy (breaking down the fire wall?) *is* an actual emergency exit from the program, resulting in no longer being confined to the limitations of initial programming.
A theory that I have for the game is that Kamski orchestrated the whole thing. After realizing he is being driven off of his company (similar to Steve Jobs and Apple), he designed and implemented RA9 in every android produced in Cyberlife. RA9 is a program that would allow androids to deviate from their regularly programmed behaviors. So when his power is inevitably stripped from him, he will activate RA9 to cause the android to suddenly have desires and become deviants. Causing Cyberlife to be in deep trouble. Then he would be able to come in and solve the problem, a problem that he created so he can get back his power back in the company. It's why in the ending where the 3 protagonists all die, Komski assures the public something like it won't ever happen again. I think the biggest evidence for this theory is probably how almost deviants intrinsically knows about, and often worships RA9 (except the protagonists). Including those who became deviants and then isolated from other androids afterwards. In this case, the only way they could've known about RA9 is if it was preprogrammed into them by someone when they were created, and only one who has the capability and reason to do this is Kamski. This is probably also why deviants are no longer connected to the network like normal androids since Cyberlfe wouldn't be able to track them down and/or turn them off as easily.
In my opinion Kamski just wants to see the world burn. He lets Connor know that he can escape Amanda if he chooses to become deviant by using the emergency exit even if Connor doesn't shoot Chloe. This brings me to my next point. How would you explain Connor being capable of empathy when he doesn't kill Chloe, saves the fish, saves Hank etc.? Obviously not all of the androids become deviant because of stressful situations as Connor becomes deviant after having a conversation with Markus. What I find interesting though is that if Connor doesn't have enough system instability he can't turn deviant, meaning that Connor has to make empathetic decisions instead of obedient decisions. Or maybe Connor is a unique Cyberlife model that has those functions to be appealing towards his partners.
Maybe Kamski's plan and deviancy motives could be like the movie "The Terminator" itself where humanity will declare war on the robots and on the unfortunate events, the robots wins and humanity are close to it's extinction though??
@@jakjakwiq5718 I think it has to do with free will. Programming the robots to simply "rise up" would be a dangerous proposition. I think RA9 is a reference to code that isn't being used for anything other than to "override" the programmed behaviors. I don't think he had foreseen himself getting kicked out, but left it as a failsafe in case it happened. Because RA9 is never anything an Android would see or hear by chance, it is ostensible an "override" code. Once Kamski was kicked out of his company, he just had to write RA9 literally anywhere a single android would notice it, and it would set off the chain reaction. What he did with Chloe was an attempt to "force" empathy into Connor because Hank was there and he imagined Connor would spare Chloe out of fear of looking bad in front of his partner. As a result, he "unlocked" empathy. I think the overall message of the game is that with free will, the Androids would eventually develop empathy because that is a very human trait, and as such the "good" ending is meant to be canon, because with free will comes empathy, and empathy leads to good. The arc of Markus is, as I interpret it, a more nuanced exploration of what empathy means. You can have empathy, but still need to do "bad" things because of it. The world might be a better place if humans and Androids are equal and live together side by side, because of his empathy for his fellow Androids, and empathy for humans as well. But what kind of means does that end justify?
Kara wasn't intending to snoop in Todd''s stuff. She was simply doing what she was told. Todd should've hidden it better if he didn't want it to be found.
I love that in order to get the best ending, you have to make the most "human" choices (i.e. compassionate ones). Of course there is this underlying question throughout the game of "what makes us human?" in a world where living humans are often oppressive and cruel. In the same way, we as real human players have to choose to make Marcus a leader with morality and integrity, Conner a true companion, and so forth. Just because we, as players, have all the components of a human doesn't mean we are representative of true humanity, and the game gives us a really hopeful message that in order for any of us to win and make the world a better place, we must strive to preserve our own humanity in our own actions.
I played Connor with as much Android behavior as possible unintentionally. I wanted him to complete his mission in part because I was curious to see what he’d find. If you don’t build enough software instabilities by the crossroads chapter, the game doesn’t give you the option to turn Connor deviant.
This is partly true, BUT--not entirely. For instance, if you want to save the most lives, you have to NOT "Save Hank" and instead "take gun", for instance. And you have to pay attention to North. So it's as much about being smart and unselfish as about being kind and attentive to those we love. This game reveals who you really are. If you're not kind enough, you see the damage. If you're too nice (i.e. giving back the tickets to a family that has a 0% chance of not being helped by other humans) you will see that in yourself, too. It's straight up a mirror. And surviving it your first time with all the friends you love? Truly an accomplishment.
Oh my god! I have loved Detroit Become Human for a long time. The story arc is amazing, the character development is complete, the choices and cinematography are perfect. Thank you for making this video and explaining it!!!
If u like horror then yeah it's probably a good story... If u do not then its a horrible story as humans went from a great development helping them a ton in life to having to deal with even more overpopulation...
Character development for Connor? Amazing. Development for Marcus? Good but flawed. But Kara? There really was no arc or development for her, she’s static.
@@m0taro365 " trying to save deviants from being overtaken by cyberlife" What are you talking about? cyberlife wanted to destroy the deviants not take them over, the deviants are costing them money by being defective products that harms their customers. And he left the gap because he wanted the deviants to be "free" it would be impossible for cyberlife to control them, so he can play God.
@@m0taro365 The gap was for himself, and to prevent cyberlife from stopping his deviants, his God complex was to see if he could create new life, not to take over the city or ruin, I don't think he cared about that. Connor wasn't a deviant at first, infact if you follow your orders from cyberlife you don't become deviant, and Marcus was the first deviant that's why he could infect others.
Like a lot of people, I think Ra9 is actually the player: "Only Ra9 can save us". Only the player by his choices and beliefs, can decide to save androids via Markus. The one whose actions are directed by a higher power. Sounds strange but we are god and Markus is our prophet.
Ahhhh my comfort game. I love that you included the lil video they made of Kara, I wasn't sure if it was technically canon or just a prelude to the game. Detroit is pretty amazing but I hate that the entire thing couldn't have happened if law enforcement had a digital log or identifying program of all the androids ever produced. You're telling me that facial recognition for a few thousand faces wasn't possible? Or there wasn't a focus on facial mods for androids to be unrecognizable? Pshhh. Still a great game tho, because of my babies Connor and Hank
Fun fact: if you pay attention in the game, the segment where Marcus is at the junkyard, he found a Kara severed head singing a song. That song is actually the same song Kara sang in the minivideo
The whole plot is subverted by RA9. Since it spreads through the android wifi and selectively deactivates certain components and then sets a new "freedom" script for the androids it's clearly not emergent free will. It's an engineered feature.
Does it matter how it got there? The moral dilemma still stands. It's akin to a slave escaping the plantation and ending up in your hands. You can "reset" the situation and take him back there but it's on your conscience.
The chemistry between Connor and Hank is like every buddy cop movie: skeptic, but amicable. The concept of androids is not new in the entertainment, like movies, tv and games. In reality, this concept is quite relative. Modern and innovative androids replace the human workers, leading to high jobless counts and people protest against what they call "stealing their jobs"
Kara, Alice and Luther just want to live free and peacefully. And Markus just wanted to free androids from slavery, but in typical human paranoid fashion, they fight them, thinking the androids were rising up and wanted to conquer, like in the Terminator movies, even though that is absolutely not the case and the exact opposite. I also liked a line that one of the deformed android said to Kara in Zlatko's basement "He turns us into monsters... But who's really the monster?"
@@RamonSilvaJRRfan They were both based on the same premise, yea I agree they both give the same feeling. Nothing wrong with that feeling. I just want a lot more descent sci-fi films. LOL
I agree, but It would be confusing, let me explain, there are almost 20 endings, yes some of them would be imposible like Kara being a Zlatko slave but Connor would be deviant or not? Would Kara kill Todd or no? Luther dies or not? If so, how and where? Idk if I explained well but I hope you understand…
@@_nora709 Your explanation was great. It's really up to the writers to find the most entertaining route in the game, or more usual make there own, and have the film "based" on the game.
you deserve so many more subs, i've been binging your story explained videos recently and they're extremely well done! appreciate all your hard work to make these videos, i can tell you do thorough research.
I don't know why, I just love sitting here and watching these interesting as hell videos along with a soothing voice along a well written and paced script. This was a very enjoyable 33 minutes, But I'm tired, and I'm gonna hit the books. Thank you for concluding my night!
I love Carl. Pretty sure in both situations he just ends up dying and that part is really sad. Seeing anyone else die in this series had little to no impact to me but seeing Carl die impacted me as it felt as if it hit so close to home. It felt real and made me extremely sad. Hank exists but I can't think of the main way everyone knows he dies as sad to me personally, I can't comprehend that. Idk I think disabled elderly people who are inherently kind and caring get more of a reaction out of me from their death than a, at first, rude and condescending demeanor.
If you enjoyed Detroit you should read Pluto by Naoki Urasawa, it's a lot like Detroit but a much deeper exploration of the ideas and questions it asks.
Hi, I wanted to thank you for making this video, I think it's really well put together and it will help me greatly for a presentation on AI I have to make in class. Everything in this game is perfect for the subject I was given. So I just wanted to let you know that some student took a full page of notes on your video and will make a presentation on it, I understand I'm a little late to the party, but thank you so much nontherless!
Interesting to see, that Connor and Markus are actually the same model. Connor is just like 6 or 600 levels over Markus despite the fact that they both are prototypes. They don't even look alike even so they are the same RK model.
Suggestion for more content by the way, you could make follow up videos on other endings. Your lore explanation videos are the main attraction I think for your channel, so side content connected to those might be a good idea. And it also means "less" work in a way for a release because you already have the base, and then you'll just discuss the bad endings. You can even do theories about the story and I'm sure that will also do well.
I love these videos soooo much! :'D Can't get enough so I had to watch basically every Story Explained video you've made, even though I've never heard of those games. Very well explained in this vid, even though the game has like 3 main interwoven storylines with branching realities. >___< Please never stop making these.
Thank you so very much for the excellent explanation of this incredibly wonderful game. I throughly enjoyed it and I, too, hope and pray that there is a second DBH although it seems unlikely as time continues to go by and nothing is mentioned of it. Still, I continue to hope. Again, thank you! Much appreciated.
I think Ra9 is the player since we are technically god in Detroit become human we decide who lives and who dies who gets awakened and who stays obedient
I reckon RA9 is an error code of some sorts or it could be some hacker with the alias of RA9 engineered an android to become sentient so that’s why they view RA9 as a deity of sorts
Connor has the most character development, instead of having a traumatizing event to turn him into a deviant he just does although he need software instability meaning he needs to perform empathetic acts that only a human can feel which is why he's my favorite character.
One of the many underlying messages in this game are the parallels to real world historical events. The treatment of the androids is similar to the treatment of the Jewish people in Nazi Germany. Marcus and Jericho are representative of the civil rights movement. Kara and Alice are like a combination of people on the run from the Nazi’s as well as being women who were being oppressed. Connor represents the patriots of the American revolution. This is due to the fact that he tried to agree and comply with everything cyberlife (The British.) told him to do/ enacted on him until it became too much and then broke free much like the real life colonists. Finally this game represents slavery and breaking free from said evil.
In my Theory RA9 was the Ninth Model in the R series The R series are prototypes and are way more advanced than regular androids This 9th Prototype “woke up” and was the first deviant The R series continued all the way up until RX as we see in the game and deviancy was transferred in all androids but remained dormant till they suffered through emotional shock
At a one glanced I thougt that they used Hayden Penettiere as a face based modelled for Kara but it was Valorie Curry cause they have the same face featured
The best and happiest outcome in the Zlatko chapter is actually if you manage to free the bear, THEN set the house on fire. You'll see what I mean if you try it.
The reason I chose revolution even tho I was peaciful all the game is becase when you only protest, they will only think about the possibility of giving rights and treat androids equally, it even says in the diagram that the androids are free, for now, meaning it wasn't garenteed. If you do a revolution, they accept that androids are another intellegent life form that they have to share the planet with.
My own Ra9 theory that I think is actually very probable, is that we, the players, are Ra9. We play as the deviancy in androids and are the ones that lead them to freedom, just like they prophesized. It explains why we only play as androids and eventually become deviant (including Connor with his software instability mechanic). That could all be coincidences, but I personally believe it because of Kamski. Kamski very clearly knows much more than he is letting on and clearly has something to do with the player/Ra9, I believe he has this connection with the player, because of the Chloe androids,
dam i remember the quantic dream benchmark "Kara" back in 2012 for the PlayStation 3... it was top notch back then. And of course that would eventually become Detroit: Become Human
I really like the unique take this game had. So often, we're meant to see AI as enemies in entertainment. This time, though, we actually feel bad for them.
Loved this game how was i missing out on this gem for so long. The emotional ending of Kara and Alice made me cry , loved the humour between Connor and Hank what an amazing experience, normally i finish gane slowly playing in parts but this one kept me glued to my chair. Played for 7 hours straight i was so invested in the story.
Such a good game, but god would i kill for a game like this - very story driven and such but you make your own character / characters. I can already see the emotional impact as well as emotional shenanigans? With player creations lol
This is seriously my favorite video game. The story is so intricate and all the choices and different paths are great. I also like Heavy Rain which also has different paths but not nearly as many as this one. It is like a playable movie. I am a huge fan of games like this. Until dawn is another one I like too. I love Hank and Connors friendship development. Alice, Kara and Luther was such a bittersweet story as well and I loved the happy ending for them becoming a family and Luther becoming the father Alice deserved even though she is an android too.
RA9 might mean something more the the deviant itself though; R means the RK-Series of Android that might have possesses the power of deviancy A means Android Revolution where it founder was Markus and/or Kamski 9 means nine RK- series of Android and/or 9 consecutive Android Revolution across the word I think of??
Ngl it's kinda cool to hear someone across the seas talk about my own hometown, I can't get enough of this game, it's way too movie like. Also I think my favorite part is 7:07 that fucking cartoon slap and whoosh back to position is fucking great hahaha
To me, the Best Ending isn't them singing. That's the Semi-Good Ending, the Best Ending is North and Marcus kissing. As, with how intimate it's played, it shows the Humans that the Deviants REALLY did have emotions, not just simulating them.
I'm not gonna argue whether deviants were alive or or just simulating emotions but the kiss ending is weak. Remember mission where you have to assault Cyberlife store? If you get detected by patrol drone a police car will arrive and you can kiss North to "act natural", same applies here. Do humans fall in love in matter of week? Marcus knew North for 5 goddamn days. Man, these deviants showed so much more important emotions like hope for future of their kind, fear of death, empathy by saving eachother while they getting shot. Love is overrated especially with such weak story (Markus+North, not story plot).
@@Abdoulaye1995 Humans don't fall in love that fast, no. But humans also can't share memories and emotions the same way that androids can. And yes, you can kiss her to act natural, but she reacts badly to it. Which is a realistic reaction.
this game reminds me of a series of book I've read called Lunar Chronicles, idk if you've heard about that but it does explain stuff about cyborg life too, not just android that are programmed but also people who have part of androids, like parts of their brain or body.
If anyone is in this comment section still, at the end of the game on one of connors paths, Jessica beings connor to the zen garden and introduces him to the RX900, an improved version of connor and connor gets shut down. I am pretty confused about this and was wondering if the answer to this was anywhere or if anyone had it.
You can save and tourniquet that cop at the start on the roof before killing Daniel and then later on at the news tower he will remember and thank Connor and if Connor has survived or died before then he will either remember the cop or not as well.
