Congrats! But damn, you missed a critical thing in your comment ... where's my "Oh my God"!!! [ ps. It has been an utter joy just to see how many people have joined in together and wanted to make the old man into a meme, and this insane amount of comments just for a video that's basically someone painting is just mind-blowing to me. I LOVE IT, and I love each and everyone of you crazy peeps, not the marshmellows, the people. ;) ]
@@onandoffandon963 while he does paint carl when choosing identity > prisoner, i don't think he means carl specifically. carl has an obscured face in that painting, which i think is pretty significant, because it might show that markus wasn't intending to single out carl in the painting (he wasn't trying to paint _carl,_ just the job). he may have been trying to convey the fact that he feels trapped in the job he's been assigned, and/or that even if he's happy to care for carl, he still feels obligation to do so. carl himself has taken on the job of "caring" for markus, in the sense that he treats him like a son and empowers him to be his own person - markus may feel that, while he lives a good life, it's not one he has any choice in. he is treated well but he's still not free. carl is someone he takes comfort in, but the task of being his caregiver is a taxing one he gets no break from, and so he feels like a prisoner. _however,_ that's only an interpretation, and of course you're entitled to your own. if you think that markus feels trapped by carl then that's just as valid as my interpretation.
@@Petidani0330 Stop finding such a boring answer for everything and enjoy the life! Drink whiskey while being and ill paralytic +70 years old artist, and get yourself an android.
Actually, when an android's led turns yellow, it's when they do something that they're not supposed to do, something that's not in their programs. ''Imaginating'' isn't in his program, and it's the first step, that we see, of him becoming a deviant.
I don't know why it's surprising that a Kpop fan would be interested in video games as neither interest requires going outside. Wait, what? (I share these interests, before you think I'm being big meanie.)
Oh, really? I thought they looked like hands, with blue hands being good and the red hands stained with evil. At least, that’s what I interpreted from that painting.
M.B. B. Ive done one playthrough and got the happy ending were all the main characters are alive, but when marcus is prompted to break free and u either endure or push back Push back, carl son will die and carl will live, u visit him later and he says that marcus was hes son even if they werent blood related
Markus: *Paints Exact Copy of Table/Statue head/Painting* Carl: *Tells him to paint his own interpretations.* Markus (If chose Humanity - Comfort): *Paints Carl's exact face.* Carl: "OMYGOD!"
@@stevepalpatine2828 I think in a way he cares about Carl he sees him as his dad cause Carl doesn't treat him like a machine but his own son but in another way Markus feels like a prisoner in a way he have to serve Carl as in even tho he would love to stay with Carl he wants to have his own free will (if I made any sense here lmfao sorry it turned long)
@@The_True_Mx_Pink ah, not as far as I'm concerned, but I'm sure more stuff has come out since 2 years ago lol there could be a mod or fanart or something where he does
it's a sweet touch, it shows how much loyality have androids, and that carl and markus have a really good relationship, but how they wouldn't? carl is such a sweet , caring and wise person
for me, it represented that both were prisoners, carl was a prisoner of his condition (wheelchair and being old) and Markus was a prisoner because he was an android and was supposed to follow always the rules and be told what to do.
Funny how Carl has a heart attack when his son tries to kill Markus but is completely fine when Markus kills his son. Almost like he cares more about Markus
Yea I really liked Carl. In my first playthrough I got Markus to paint Carl and seeing Carl’s reaction was so wholesome. But then it got ruined by Quantic Dream when they made “oh my god” the standard reaction no matter what you did. Just dumb. Could’ve switched up the dialogue to make the scene a lil more dynamic
Something I noticed: when ever he paints a copy it's just straight lines as if he's just printing it but when ever he makes his second painting his arms move around much more as if he's actually painting Anyone else notice this?
i noticed that too, like on his first painting he was being a machine - how he painted like an electronic printer, his second painting mirroring his deviance - free will.
“Gotta have opposites, light and dark and dark and light, in painting. It’s like in life. Gotta have a little sadness once in awhile so you know when the good times come. I'm waiting on the good times now.”
I love how compared to the first several paintings that markus has done, where he copies from real life, his brush strokes are straight across the canvas- boring and predictable. then when he starts depicting life and imagining, his strokes become more colorful and abstract. I'd honestly be right beside Carl saying oh my god. i absolutely love d:bh
Here's my interpretation of each painting keep in mind I haven't finished the game. Androids and fate: we see Markus in the garbage dump for androids. This is his personal fate when he is branded a deviant and sent away. Its also the fate of all androids, to be thrown in the trash when no one has further use of them. Androids and hope: we see him holding a chain that is not connected to anything because the hope of androids is to be unchained, free. Androids and pain: ...he's in pain. not sure if there's any more meaning to that Androids and sadness: we see his hands bound and covered in thirium (android blood) being bound brings him despair and the thirium could potentially mean having blood on his hands in the future. Humanity and anger: we see the face of an angry android. could this be frustration felt for humanity in general? Humanity and comfort: we see Carl. Markus feels comfort around Carl because he is the only human that treats him like a person rather than a piece of property which in turn gives Markus the desire to comfort Carl. Humanity and empathy: we see a pair of blue hands and a pair of red hands. Android blood and human blood. I'm reminded of a quote by Shakespeare "if you prick us to we not bleed"? This line was used by a Jewish character as a means of saying that they feel suffering just like everyone else does. Empathy is understanding the emotions of another if androids and humans can both feel suffering then doesn't that mean that they are both alive in some sense? Humanity and hope: we see a hand reaching for a mechanical one. This could mean that humanity's hope is not to shun and hate those who are different but to reach out with understanding. The mechanical one appears to be in a position to help up a human possibly meaning that where humanity is concerned the only hop androids have is to show compassion to those who have mistreated them. Identity and androids: its a self portrait. again I'm not sure if this one is any more significant. Identity and despair: we see an android weeping covered in android blood. This could mean that he feels despair for being a member of a slave raise who toil and bleed only for another? Identity and doubts: we see yet another self portrait. could this mean that he doubts having an identity? that he might not be a real person? Identity and prisoner: we see what looks like Markus and Carl but both of them are faceless. could mean that Markus views himself as a prisoner to his life. Even though he considers Carl to be a father to him at the end of the day he didn't choose to be a caretaker. Hell he never had a choice. He exists only to be bound to another What do you think? does anyone agree?
+Trev Stimp Identity and Androids I think is that Markus sees himself as an Android. Hence the simple self portrait. As for Androids and Pain I think it's both his own pain that he feels as an Android and the pain he thinks the other Androids are feeling too.
I seriously love his portrait of Carl in the "Humanity: Comfort" painting. It reminds me a lot of Van Gogh's style, and I'm already a huge fan of Van Gogh.
10:01 markus was asked to draw something which doesn't exist he drew himself as on this point he didn't know if he has his own existence or something whether he matters thus Identity-doubt.
Deepak Nohawar i think you are seeing it the wrong way. carl meant it as in something Markus had not seen before, like the desk he had seen before. if we go by your logic, then the last painting ‚prisoner‘ means Carl and Markus do not exist.
I'm seeing it as blue represent the androids and red the humans. Markus dont know if he's also human, or just an android surrounded by humans. He doubts about himself just being a machine, or also a person, a ''human''. His shirt is blue, representing that everyone see him as an android, and so it's how he represents himself, with some red ''glitch'' of painting, since some people, Carl for example, also see him as an individual, as a person on his own. The background is red, representing that Markus is sourrounded by people with their own ''themselves'', people having their own identity, still with some blue in it, cause he still sees some androids around him. His face has both blue and red stains, cause he's trying to figure out if he's more android or more ''human'', if he also has, and also deserves, his own identity. Did I totally think too much about it ? Surely. Did I enjoy it ? Totally. Am I happy with this conclusion ? Absolutly.
I love how the developers made it so when Markus is copying an image you’re just swiping to the right but they make you perform more dynamic movements when actually creating the painting it’s a really subtle detail but it’s really cool showing that Markus is capable of free thought
@@SHADOMEGA7569 yeah I think the option is being optimistic goes like "no , not all humans are the same . Some of them understand they can't stop us from being free forever" and also "I cared for an old man , he showed me humans and Androids can live together"
Instead spending time on game design, dialoge, etc They should spend x10 more time for 15 painting scenes with 3-8 stages while painting Isn't hard to do but player see only 2 paintings so they can't see 13/15 already so why make spend that much time on it
It could be that the painting tapped into a feeling deep inside you. Art tends to do that. Ever notice that you mind feels over-stimulated to the point of exhaustion after a day in an art museum?
Onyx Crescent Music for sure. Soundtrack (or soundtracks I should say, they made 3 different music lines from 3 different composers) in this game is awesome. :)
Why would anyone thumb this down? The video is titled "Detroit Become Human - The Painter - All 15 Markus Paintings" what were they expecting Call Of Duty?
+Jimmy Savile (wingding341) then why would you even care about its videos and content? dislike on crap thats deserve to be disliked, not dislike cause you're so proud of your opinion

We need a meme out of this! Carl : "Try to imagine something that doesn't exist. Something that you've never seen." Markus : *Paints Source Image* Carl : "oh my God!" EDIT : Yes I realized that it's already a meme a while later, and that I'm not the first one to bring it up. Thank you all for the likes and replies.
I'm not exactly an expert on paintings, but Markus' paintings are amazing. I only drew a few during the game, but here I see them all and look with my mouth open. I have to say that they cared a lot about that game
doge cavalheiro I mean like....like simulated feelings of emotions that were bi-prouducts of creating advanced AI...something out side of the programming. A simulated/artifical soul.
I haven’t finished the game yet, but this is my favorite scene so far. It shows that the androids do somehow feel emotion, and it also shows that Markus is feeling all of these emotions, but you can only pick one to paint. I did the identity: despair painting and it amazed me.
You know what I realized about all of these paintings??? Is that they all foreshadow what will eventually happened... (Depending on the players choices)
Makes you realize how deep and well thought out game it is isn't it? I thought all those pictures were just random abstract images of what we chose based on our feelings at that time.
This is so important, it shows every detail of his personality right at the start of the game. It's interesting to see how he feels before even knowing how to feel. so interesting how he sees Carl as a "comfort", but at the same time, as a "prison of his identity". Explains a lot about how pretty much any other android would feel. Happy to be serving it's owner and concluding it's purpose, and the creation of deviants, when they kill their owner and see no other purpose. They feel *fear* with an abusive owner, but in their mind, maybe freedom seems even more fearful, after all, it comes with all that "then why am i alive?" Existential crisis
Those two paintings strengthened their father-son relationship for me. He considers him family, that's why he finds comfort in his presence and at the same time he feels responsible for taking care of Carl because of the same bond.
I thought that in the prisinor painting he meant that Carl was also a prisinor //Carl cant move freely or do smth simple without aid. But thats my thinking
