Actually it was the first thing I noticed. It changed several times through the film to demonstrate being "emotionally" neutral, overthinking, angry/frustrated, and at peace/satisfied. It reminded me of a man I dated back when I was living in Atlanta whose eyes changed based on emotional state. Amusingly, because of it he could never play poker with me even though he had mastered a poker face, his eye colour changed because of it.

As a person on the ace spectrum, I really like the representation in this film. How it’s not played for laughs or some tragedy that the characters have to ‘overcome’ but rather an aspect in their relationship as a whole.

Here's the thing right.... I feel like I've seen so many quote-unquote romantic movies that have nothing to do with love. How ironic it is that one of the best relationships I've seen onscreen was literally A FAN FILM between an android and a human. Never played the game, btw. I feel that you don't need to, to enjoy this movie. I also feel like the film started off in a place where the relationship was already established; it just wasn't acknowledged by the characters yet. Who doesn't want some teasing with their coffee? 😂😂😂. The plot was interesting, the dialogue was well-written (albeit cheesy in some places 50:14) and the acting was superb. That alone makes up for anything else that the film might lack. AND it is nice, *_seriously nice_* to see a relationship where the characters genuinely seem to like each other. Whose connection isn't based solely on a rather ridiculous and improbable set of circumstances, a dramatic love triangle, a borderline disturbing deception or a grand gesture. (The list goes on.) My point is, I like this. Fanfiction, fanart and fanfilms have such a bad reputation in of mainstream media. Talk show hosts seem to fixate in the weirdest, kinkiest, cringiest ones they can find and use it to embarrass their guests. They just seem to ignore the fact that a great many of them are like this: wholesome, deliberate and loving.

I was looking for "gay romantic movies", something positive that I could relate to. Found DE. Watched it & loved it. Had no knowledge of DBH. The. I found DA, and that gave a bit more context. This prompted my looking into DBH, which looks fascinating - the amount of work that went into that! Point is 1/ you don't need to know of DBH, 2/ it's very romantic. :-)

actually, the characters never meet in game. Nine shows up for like 5 secs. Its the character and evolution on Connor to 60 to Nines that has the story going to Gavin and asking why he hates androids. Nines being the only one that matches or can handle Gavins attitude. The community (Connor Army) basicly voted it and the company hasn't denied this path.

Yeah! I wanted to show in their body language that they are now a couple and the tension has been diffused. Since we shot the movie out of order and this was filmed before any romance moments, I remember actually noting that when directing the scene (as well as the following scene outside of the warehouse, which was actually the very first scene Maximilian and Chris shot together at all).

I cannot get over how well this is done, how lovable the characters are, how amazing the music and lighting is, the small details and especially the relationship. I don’t wanna write paragraphs but this deserves awards man, why the fuck is there a fourth kissing booth movie when things like this happen. This is the fanfiction people want and the fact that a small studio has managed to do it and do it so we’ll at that is exceptional, especially when it’s not even a main ship!! Just realised that in the begining after Nines brought Gavin coffe, they go - Nines: "I hate you." Gavin: "You love me." (While they're joking around) Then in the reunion scene they go - Gavin: "I hate you." Nines: "You love me." Nothing big, but it definatly felt like a lightbulb moment. Pretty cool.

If you told me after playing DBH that Gavin can have a believable redemption arc and an Android BF to boot. I would've said you were insane. But now, I would've said you're a goddamn genius to be able to pull this off so well. In a fanfic film no less. Even Hollywood and all their millions of dollars can't pull off a love story this good without making it awkward or feel rushed.

I don't get nightmares every night, but the ones I do get are pretty fucking terrible. It's been really cathartic for me to talk about it to someone, my best friend or my therapist. My nightmares always have to do with either my parents abusing me and/or my siblings, or the fact that my parents raised us in a cult. Or sometimes BOTH in some nightmares (usually in those dreams, they're in power and are unchecked or even encouraged by society to be WAY more abusive than they are irl). But yeah, it's really great to talk about it with someone. TW: torture, graphic violence The most recent nightmare I had was my parents being in power in the cult (which I had left and had to return to for some reason), and at the end my mom was literally torturing my youngest brother by gouging a sharpened crowbar into his back. He was screaming and she leaned down and went "shh, it's okay" then smiled like an effing psychopath. I told her to stop, she said she couldn't because he was being punished for something, so I told her "I'll do it" (as in I'll take it). His back was so fucking messed up, full of places where chunks of his flesh had been literally ripped out. When I saw his back, I felt faint and nauseous. My mom kind-of side-eyed me and asked, "Do you really think you can take this?" I woke up instantly.

I'm not okay most of the time, but considering there was a period of my life where I wasn't okay for years, I can say with confidence that it has gotten much better and continues to get better. Right now I'm in a weird middle place of feeling not okay but also not not okay (if that makes any sense whatsoever). Fortunately I don't have nightmares very often anymore either (it's just that when I do, they really suck).

I can't believe I just found this. The quality of it is amazing, the writing, the acting, the romance. Just as an indie film it's great, I can't imagine what you guys would be able to create if you had a Hollywood level budget. Asexual romances are also so incredibly rare since people tend to intrinsically tie romance and sex together, but Gavin loving Nines and not caring about the sexual aspect of their relationship is something I never realized I craved so deeply in any media that has romance in it. David Cage could never. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for Reawakening.

I agree. With most movies/books, the characters fall in love and completely abandon what they were doing first for sex or something. Neither Gavin or Nines tried to do that, while still acknowledging and accepting it. The script is well written and the actors are super talented
