He was fired because he allowed her to expose the owner. It was retaliation. The owner is a horrible human being.

Truth be told the owner probably goes to the restaurant only once every few months. They’re too busy being rich.

@@modtwentyeight Bingo! Health inspectors probably make jack-squat and they're usually spread thin over entire regions, so no one is getting into the nooks and crannies of hundreds of restaurants. They do the bare minimum of inspecting (plus give places up to two weeks notice so they have a chance to clean the really bad stuff up before they come in) and then go on about their way, as evidenced here. No way was that Popeye's that filthy overnight or even in a few months; it's been filthy since the building first went up, but the inspector gave them enough time to clean the obviously bad parts so they could come in, glance over the place, make a few remarks about tidying up, get a check from the owner for a couple thousand, give them a passing inspection, and then breeze on to the next place.

They passed the inspection in an envelope 🤣🤣

if you manage a restaurant, you shouldn't need inspections to do the right thing. as usual, people expect government to replace integrity and personal responsibility.

Granted there wasn’t IG & FB back then but I think I would’ve told my parents had I witnessed this type of filth AND I hope anyone else in the industry would come forth too! You’d be at least eligible for unemployment worst case scenario! Please please please be a whistleblower! There should be a fund that would A.) help whistleblowers get new jobs when necessary and B.) compensate anyone fired for being a whistleblower, for x amount of weeks or until they find a new job

I worked at Dairy Queen before. I quit after 1 day because 1 of the shift leaders was washing a trash can in the dish sink INSTEAD of the mop sink. The store manager was preparing the DQ cakes in the training/her office area. I was disgusted

i feel for her. i worked at starbucks for 5 years and i was one of the only people cleaning things right. i'd even go to other stores to close and you could tell they never even bothered to *wipe* the ice bins down let alone actually clean them 😭 careful when you get ice when you go out to eat lol probably sits in a moldy ice bin

I'm curious to see if this was the day crew or night crew. We don't know if he walked into that when he started his shift. If she is a new higher, that tells me that they may need some help by the look of things That man can't be the manager all day every day. There should be another manager and possibly two assistant managers. Him alone can not take full responsibility for this! That's unfair! @Philip Becker thanks for letting me know revenue from property taxes is higher than code fines. I wouldn't have guessed. It would be interesting to see if code enforcement raked in more than expenses. The accounting for more than variable expenses and how they get allocated to that department might be fuzzy. But, I'm going to guess my friendly local code enforcement officials make at least their daily bread when they go on patrol. Detroit real estate tanked in '09 and ratables fell. That and liberal spending creates shortfalls. Those bonds that are so appealing are only credit cards, they keep Detroit broke.

For real! I worked in two fast food places, one that was consistently dirty and one that was as clean as possible - it's literally impossible for the kind of mess at that Popeye's to happen without long term neglect and inaction from the health department, as it's also impossible to get that kind of nastiness cleaned up in time for an inspection.

Sounds like Health Inspector's getting paid off by owner of the restaurant.

The health depts. are all limited by the numbers on their staffs. They show up so infrequently that most stores don't even think about them.

They gave the inspector a couple pieces of that delicious ice tea chicken to keep him quiet. 😉

No, but they can happen within a matter of a week. It's a place that sells food. Dumpsters filled with food products. it doesn't take long for some scurriers to come in there. and just 1 or 2 days of a manager trying to be more of a friend to workers instead of a boss, meaning they don't make the workers clean up behind themselves, can lead to old oil. food product s everywhere. Trash and wet floors. All of that literally happens every day. Floors get wet, oil gets used and needs changing within hours. Trash CONSTENTLY needs taken out. So, 1 or 2 days and the kitchen will look EXACTLY like that. so, unless you're saying health department needs to be there daily, you can't blame them fully

inspections happen with prior notice, not random.

Restaurants know when inspection are. They can prepare the workers and the store to be nice for the inspection and then after can go back to what they were doing

@@blacknightboy17 I remember working at one of the top stores of a major retail company. EVERY TIME there was a visit, all the managers would huddle around them as if to keep them away from everyone. If you did try to speak to one more than to say hello one of them would get their attention and pull them away. I used to whisper to them all the time to do more pop-up visits. I used to love surprise visits from district, regional, corporate and sometimes even a few shareholders!! No time to plan and make sure the specific areas that the store they just left called ahead about were perfect. It wouldn't be a trashed store, but definitely more authentic. They'll be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Got caught being unprepared plenty of times.

Popeyes should revoke the Franchise Contract and take control and make it a corporate store. The franchise owner obviously doesnt care about it.

You can't just charge managers with neglect and public endangerment without going after the health departments that let this stuff go on so long.
