Amen!! I needed that. Although I used to love sprinting and I stopped due to falling into depression for more than 3 years. Now I'm 21 and I'm going to start going back to what I used to love. All the glory to God! Amen!
@@jairmartinez2246 I thank God for you life! I am so happy that you are coming out of the dungeon of depression and feeling motivated again to kick start your passion for sprinting. God bless you. I pray you stay happy and motivated! bless the name of the Lord!!
COACH WELLY! My phone must be listening to me because today at work I was explaining the sprint wall commands drill to a coworker when talking about plyometrics and working out. Now I log on and this video is on my RU-vid home page, and WHEN did you get 1.4 MILLION views on this thing!? I hope all is going well with your new kids, I know you're making the same amazing impact you made on me and all the other CA kids. Much love coach! Sincerely, Mr. Put The Stick In My Hand and Someone is Getting HAWKED "New Guy" Jackylegs
This is an excellent start for my younger kids. The explanation is helpful for me because I did these in high school, but not sure why I was doing them! just did what I was told :)
Hey man my little brother is 12 and he’s a gifted basketball shooter but he is so slow and he does do some training but I get baffled by how slow he is. Any recommendations on how to make a 12 year old faster
Follow all of my "Developing Speed For All Ages" series, and that alone will help. Once he starts learning to use his body, as well as get better, then things can become a little more specific.
Thank you for the very informative video. I have a young child (boy age 7) who has recently started to run with a group that promotes fitness and activity for kids. It’s not competitive just for fun and fitness. He is running a 1/4 mile race and he seems to enjoy it. My question, we were thinking of getting him involved with track and field as something to continue to keep him active. He is pretty fast but his form is needs work. What would you suggest for his age group to help work on improving running mechanics for sprinting? I don’t want him to develop bad habits. Thanks!
Nice Video! My son is 11 and fast, and he pumps his arms nicely(once he gets moving)....I'm trying to teach him acceleration. It seems like the biggest thing in acceleration is the knee drive while a little forward. Is this true? Which exercises to you think are best for a tall lanky kid to accelerate?
I am a soccer player and want improve my speed.. But its difficult. I have soccer training 3x per week and 1 game. I heard you should atleast do 3 days of sprints and what about weight training? Any tips? Rest days?
It depends on who you talk to. I recommend you don't do max velocity sprints 3 days a week, that would be a lot on your body. 2 max, and weight training you can execute 3 x a week. I have trained a few soccer athletes myself. You guys are the easiest to change, because you typically don't use your arms or lift your knees when running during soccer games.
3 days a week? Your pretty lazy. 5 days a week would be better especially for your age. And since you play soccer, most of your training should be learning how to play smarter rather than dumber.
@@nsamusic6492 Well it is sometging similar (sakker) in a lot of languages....plus, it is a word Americans and Canadians learned from Brits, who invented it....
Toe drag for athletes that are powerful enough to execute it is great. There are many though that can't. That power output, and even basic coordination to execute it is often times difficult.
Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I have my son, who is 12yo, his running technique/mechanics is pretty poor, as he runs with straight legs and trunk. How do you improve technique and that mechanics element of running?
How low should I stay in my acceleration phase? I’m fairly tall at 5’11 and I’m pretty much around a 45 degree angle, but I see other sprinters either go at a 60 degree angle or even 30 degrees. I know it’s mostly preference but I wanna know your thoughts. And how should I avoid “hunching” my back when I’m low? I try and keep my back straight but it’s hard because I feel like I’m gonna fall forwards lol
45 degrees for the most part is ideal. You avoid arching by making sure your hips are forward and not behind your center of mass. The almost falling forward could have a lot to do with that added with, just speculating, but you are probably not popping your knee forward, or you are just leaning too far forward.
@@coachwelly Coach I didn't understand by ' that would change alot quicker ' what would change? And also people always says to me that I've to focus on strengthening my legs because if I'm slow, there's no use of focusing on running mechanics
@@johanjames8047 you said your technique and strength are both bad. If you work on your sprint mechanics first that would change a lot of things quicker. Sprint Mechanics make you faster quicker than simply strengthening your legs. You obviously need both, but mechanics will take you far.
@@johanjames8047 there are other videos before the one you are currently watching that explain all of. That. The series is called developing speed for all ages. It will explain everything
Hello, I'm 15, 5ft 11 and can run 100m flat at 14:00 secs. I know it's not fast. Speed, Speed endurance and Stride frequency I think are my main struggles. Also 200m I would like to be good at. It feels like my legs drop in height at 70 meters.
My sister lost her first ever race and she’s been discouraged, I’m trying to learn stuff so I could teach her. She’s 11 but I’m scared to train her because she’s diabetic and don’t want to make her blood drop. Any advice?
I have coached kids who are diabetic, so I just do as much as I can without going overboard. Giving multiple breaks, more water intake, etc. Plus tell to not get bummed. In a loss. Something. Needs to be learned from every race
It depends. Some of the drills are eliminated as we progress through the season. For example once acceleration has bettered, 2 point, 3 and 4 point are the only positions we accelerate from. The initial wall drill is typically thr precursor to the others. Make sense?
i run a 22.01 in the 200 meters and my 100 meters is 11.10. i am a sophomore this year and i want to dramatically drop my time and I've notice i am not as quick out the blocks as i need to be and explosive. i started practicing in the beginning of this year and track is right around the corner do u have anymore tips u can give.
Its the force you put into the track. What you can do is set up wickets (see my max velocity video), and start doing your speed days over those. Also, start doing more Plyo metrics and get your leg strength stronger, and that will help. Hope that answers your question.
So will this help me in the 400? because im strong and can sprint the whole thing, but since I’m not quick I can’t break a minute yet. Edit: I’m not sure if that made since, but I tried my best to explain it.
@@coachwelly script for training speed , or a weekly program script will be so usefull 👍I've been training for 6 months, my current running speed is 20km/hr, and I can sustain it for 2 kilometers! Therefor I'm barely searching for some coaching or weekly programs ! Problem with RU-vid i cannot remember the whole video when im outside training
I’m just getting into sprinting (before I was doing cross country and I just wanted try sprinting) and I am having a hard time getting to strike with my forefoot rather than my mid foot which is what I’m used to doing now. Oddly is kinda tricky to correct it. What can I do to help?
When you do your drills, start with walking to get the idea. Now landing mid foot to fore foot isn't a problem, it's when you land on your heels. That is the problem.
Have them do all the drills in flats. I only had my spikes on because I was recording a lot that day 😆 Flats until they are about to start sprinting/accelerating ...
I know this is old but do you have any higher top speed drills because i have a good start but people tend to pass me about 50 meters in because they have higher top speed.
Hey I'm 13 years old and run 11.3 with sprint training and wanted to know if you think I should do weights and what I should do Also I need to work on acceleration
thats pretty good for a 13 year old. I would say for now do general body strengthening (legs. upper body and core). Also continue to work your acceleration.
Do you recommend sprinting after doing these drills or doing these will be good enough. COVID restrictions has made it tough to go out and do track work.
It depends on what you are doing for a workout. You can just work on these, or you could do a workout that involves sprinting, tempo/form running, etc.
If you are a beginner, you should focus first on becoming a better sprinter. Learning the correct mechanics of sprinting. This entire series can help with that. Then you must sprint. It's a rather simple equation.
For spikes you simply put them on like shoes. They are to help you run faster. Also, these drills are for any individual in any event, and/or sport that needs to learn how to accelerate.
@@coachwelly Thanks for the quick reply. I mean I am not training for competition, I just want to be more explosive, which starting is better? I always start with 2 point start because it seems to be the easiest.
@@chinocoffee9565 have you seen my video, 4 ways to improve acceleration? Take a look and it may give you different ways to be explosive, and you can choose. Plus you dont have to competitive to train like a track athlete.
Got anything on starts? I ran my 2nd ever track meet today and I got 7.7 on a 55 on my 1st meet, but on this one I got a really bad start and finished last at 8.2, if you have something on starts can you pls reply to me a link? Thx and great video, it helps a lot
Hello Sir Am 24 year old i am most in-trusted in Athletic games Like Sprint Races. My Dream is in 2020 games in japan am training 200 and 400 meter races. Please give me some tips how to prepare for this challenge How work in daily life and exercises. Give me some tips am thanking you
Sir my routine of practice is , when I go to field I first ran 4 to 6 round of it after warm up with 50 percent of giving and than do Sprint drill or Sprint of 100 m three to four time. But sir i am too thin due these practice my chest is decreasing so sir what changes i should do in my practice?
Hi im 19 and i cant get past 47 on the 400m, i feel like i improve in very different parts of the track each run, but i always seem to hit 47.2 to 47.9
jewlz deshommes how old is he? You can drop his time a few ways. Work on his form, work on his power output (legs stronger), work on his acceleration, and work on his speed endurance (50 to 150m). Getting him running as fast as he can over those distances.
Hi I do the 100m sprint in 11.7 I’m 18, how quick should I run the 30/40/60 yard and metre dash and can I increase my speed with these drills in two weeks?
That is going to take a lot of rest and icing 2-3 times a day. You literally can't do anything, but ice for a few weeks, because it you constantly run on it and it hasn't healed it will become a nagging injury. REST and ICE.
Micheal Wellington. I have a track meet march 23. should I run in that meet. I have the 4x2, 400, 4x4 to do. you said rest for a few weeks so should I mess that one??
So how much times should i do these drills a week? And will my speed increase in about 2weeks if i stay consistent? I have championships in 2weeks and i need to work on my speed
My coaches teach us nothing. It’s especially bad because I’ve never ran track before. They only focus on the people who’ve been in track before :( O really want to be good at running but nobody is encouraging
Prachi Chouhan you just need to focus on what your coach teaches you. All these drills and programmes are secondary things. First focus on what you have with 100% focus on your training.
