"The mark of a great final boss is when players can look at their maxed-out, unstoppable juggernaut of a hero, then glance at their opponent and still wish that they could switch places." - Game Informer Magazine Said of this boss fight and BOY HOWDY were they right.
@@gort1863 4 SE lets you fight Dante as Vergil. Still not sure who's tougher. Vergil 3 or Dante 2 on DMD. I'd say Vergil overall is tougher even on lower difficulty levels but Dante 2 switches to RG...hit him and die to a Royal Release, run away and he stuns you with gunfire before using Air Trick and Full House to take 3/4 of your health.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 vergil is more aggresive, but he usually leaves open window for attack, especially after devil trigger. He has somewhat dangerous but predictable movesets. Dante, on the other hand, is much more impredictable. You have to be creative to put him into combo, considering the different mechanics in DMC 4. His firearms are broken AF, putting no-damage runners into risk more than any bosses. Still hate Dante 101. That dude tanked my JCE like it was nothing.
I never even considered that, DMC 1 Dante is by far the coldest and stoic Dante (except DMC 2 we don't count that though lol) and it actually makes sense that yes he is cold and stoic because Vergil recently "died"
@@vincentlau6325 actually it makes more sense in DMC2 because Dante just found Vergil again in DMC1 and then he "died" again. I think that is why he is depressed and quiet in DMC2 and in the anime
@@vincentlau6325 its weird cuz the story of dmc3 its actually very well done but a lot of those narrative things get overshadow by the awesome combat in these games
@@tegesnripendra9473 he's so depressed in 2 that he doesnt have fun even in combat thats why theres no combos or fun stuff to do jus shoot choppers. (Maybe dmc2 is more deep than we tought... nah)
No? I don't really like the DMC games themselves, but I absolutely love the music. I had a PS2 for Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Silent Hill, and I'm sure other games that I'm missing.
Even on normal this was an intense fight. I actually miss it when "normal" in video games was a decent challenge. Not as insane as earlier generations and especially not like NES era, but I like how DMC 1 and DMC 3 finishing the game on normal actually meant working for it a bit.
yep, my only issue with dmc1 and 3 is the gold orb system coz it pretty much just lets u cheat instead of overcoming a challenge (I didn’t do that in 3 tho but sometimes did in 1)
Vergil: Give that to me. Dante: No way, you got your own. Vergil: Well I want yours too. Dante: What are you gonna do with all that power, huh? This is how a final boss fight should be. Testing everything you've learned throughout the entire game and pushing you to your limits. i spent alot of time and "one more try" moments on this fight especially on the higher difficulty. i feel like this key element is gone is alot of games.....well all the ones i like playing
Combining that with the atmosphere and feeling of fulfilment of your journey... that is when your final boss is a great one. A recent example would be Nioh 2's Otakemaru.
The build up, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the music and the challenge. The final boss of Devil May Cry 3 had everything nailed it. Dante and his twin brother Vergil battling in the gap between the Demon and Human worlds, if Dante fails, Vergil unleashe the hell itself on Earth, but if Dante wins, he loses his only relatve alive, his own brother. You can feel not only the struggle of the fate of the human world, but the struggle of Dante in this fight.
The only thing it didn't have nailed to it was that before it had that Megaman like "repeat all the bosses" thing and even a normal boss battle right after that I kinda became over-saturated with bosses so I became so annoyed that I left the game for a week and then cane back and fought Vergil
@@Thanos5 indeed he want the power. Not destroying the world. But he cast anything alive aside for power is why dante step in I believe. And since dante mature throughout the gameplay, he seems to accept his demon heritage and want to prevent hell on earth which like his father did in the past.
I know it might seem weird to say, but DMC 3 gave me one of my favourite video game stories ever. Seriously. Looking at it all deep like with a magnifying glass (as you do Metal Gear Solid), this game really shows how much a parent's death is on a kid.
One thing that I think makes the Devil May Cry series so special is that it's largely about family. Vergil and Dante did what they did because in some way they cared about their family. Their mother in particular. The trauma of losing their mother manifested itself in different ways in both brothers. A lot of people outside the DMC fanbase seem to see Devil May Cry as just this "stylish fighting simulator" when in reality there's a lot of nuance and depth in it that gets overshadowed. Even Lady's plot dealing with her mother and killing her father all point back to family and how important it is. This is something that runs through the entire series and makes it far more than what people see on the surface.
Not even Capcom themselves understand the brilliancy of DMC3's story. They didn't even hired an actual story writer for the game. The credits just list a bunch of scenario writers, choreography and CGI directors. Its beyond human comprehension.
A parent's death on a kid is best portrayed in Vergil: "Might controls everything. Without it... you cannot protect ANYTHING! Let alone yourself" After being defeated... "No one can have this Dante... it's mine. It belongs to a son of Sparda. Leave me and go... I'm staying... this place... was our father's home..." *Falls in Darkness*
@@goodninja3 vergil goes to find the man who asked jumps in to darkness That would be an amazing meme template (this is not an insult simply a random thought please do not go into attack mode like the average dmc 2 lover when i make a joke)
This is my favorite end boss, period. Not only did it have the amazing setup of everything that came before it (Especially the previous Vergil fights), but then the fight itself was never bogged down by gimmicks and cutscenes that attempt make it more "Epic"; It was just you and Vergil fighting and just letting the amazing mechanics of the game give it power and atmosphere.
+Crazy Jay Maybe in some fantasy reality he wasn't a gimmick boss. Vergil blocks almost every attack except immediately after he launches an attack though. The entire fight is a fucking gimmick fight. Lol.
@@beesechurger2540 And most of them come from failing to save his family 1st time: Tried warning Dante and EVA about Mundus's Demons, get stabbed rapidly 2nd time: Jump to fight Mundus knowing he will be a slave as a last resort of saving Dante from being Mundus's demon
Best part in the bossfight tbh. Says myself while running and air tricking and dodging away from Helm breakers. Then comes the other best part. His original Judgement Cut End, while I run circles in utter panic and fear of getting TRASHED.
Hell nah DMD is way too cheesy, lower difficulties are better, like Very Hard. But sadly he has spiral swords only on DMD so you won't get his entire moveset if below it.
@@archol6596 Isshin Ashina is a great challenge, like you face a scary monster But DMC3 Vergil battle 3 is a battle between two equals Battles between two equals will always be intense not to mention it's the final boss. Like @The Red Mage said, it has everything's done right, everything.
This is a boss theme that does its job properly: its an epic sounding culmination of the journey up the to that point, it radiates *power* and instills fear, but most importantly; it makes you feel *a little motivated.*
Did you try fighting Vergil 3 on max difficulty? TROLOLOLOLOl! "Blades flying everywhere. Ridiculous ass amount of DT Tranformations. Retarded amount of ice sword dodging!" Still refuses to unseal Force Edge into Sparta and fight Dante like a real man!
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet... But if you're going to compare the two Vergils on anything in this soundtrack video, it should be their battle themes. In that regard, I cannot even give one iota of support for DmC's final boss theme. This piece is actually one of the most musically beautiful and poignant pieces I've ever heard in a video game.
Agreed, this has got to be one of the best final boss themes I have ever heard aside from Dancing Mad. Very emotional, pumping, and masterfully crafted. This is art.
***** I'm not comparing the two games, just the two characters. I had about zero problems with Vergil in DmC, on any difficulty. DMC3 Vergil and Nero Angelo on the other hand kicked my ass a lot. This song in particular is WAYYY better then anything in DmC as well. That's all I'm sayin'.
DmC's great. If Capcom lets Ninja Theory make another game in the same universe, I just hope the boss fights are revised. Otherwise, I understand where you are coming from.
***** Characters in DmC were VERY dissapointing compared to ones we used to know and love before,Dante isn't that bad, just mediocre compared to DMC3 and 4 Dante, but Vergil is just terrible compared to original one, when in original series he was seeking power, driven by sorrow after his mother's death, which he blaimed on him not being strong enough to protect her,new Vergil is just an asshole who thinks that humans are nothing and wants to control them just for that.He also has no honour, what we can see when he shoots Lilith, killing her demon baby, then waits to let her see what happened to make her suffer, and then kills her.And she was a damn hostage...He acted like damn coward, true Vergil would NEVER act so lowly...
I agree only with the former. Devil May Cry 3 was a masterpiece, and the bets devil may cry game to exist in the series. It had good graphics, great gameplay, fantastic voice and acting, and the ability to control Vergil in the whole game. On the other hand, Devil May Cry 4 was a massived disappointment to the entire series. It is no where near as great as 3 was, but least its a whole lot better than 2.
Vergil: Give that arm to me. Nero: No way, you got your own Vergil: Well i want yours too. Nero: What are you gonna do with all that arms, huh? No matter how hard you try, you're never gonna be like Shinsuu Senju! Vergil: You're wasting time!
I love bury the light very much, but i do miss the melacholy feeling of this song. Its as if youre gazing in the sky after you receive ultimate power. What now? You ask yourself as you stare at the vast sky.
Thats the thing. Bury the light feels like "im feeling sad im aiming for power" This and vergil theme 2 feels like "i have found power, i dont need emotions no more"
The leitmotif in DMC3 was much stronger than DMCV's IMO. I really wish they had remixed this theme for the Mission 19 fight between Dante and Vergil rather than the generic duel theme they ended up using.
HOLD IT! Capcom already announced just recently that they will be going back to the Original DMC Series and making DMC5. Thats why they made the commemorative DMC4 Special Edition Featuring every character from DMC 1, 3 and 4. Hell Vergil's back! Even Lady makes her first playable appearance so don't worry about our favourite Dante not making a return ladies and gentlemen!
This is a final boss fight done right. This still gives me the chills especially when 2:57 hits. A masterpiece I can never forget.
BLAST HRAAGHH BLAST BLAST HOUGHH BLAST HYYAA I'll see you in a minute. This may be fun. You will not forget this devil's power. You are not worthy as my opponent.
Dante & Vergil were very similar in their own motives at first. Let me explain. Dante was looking for the demon that killed his mother, and he made the whole thing out to be this huge fun game. He didn't care about what happened to anyone as long as he got his revenge. Vergil believed that "without power, you can't protect anything. Let alone yourself" because he was unable to protect his mom. Their motives are selfish, but you can sympathize with that. However, Dante matured and learned that getting your wants at the expense of other people was horrible. Vergil, however didn't care what happened to others, he wants power to compensate for the loss of his mom. Take that character development, put the fact that their blood brothers in it that got lost due to the parents death and lace it with crack cocaine, and inject it with family dysfunction, then add an astronomically emotionally moving piece of music like this into the mix. And what better way to induce emotion than to add a tragically realistic way parent deaths have on children to have them base their actions off of their parents' death. I speak for both the old DMC and the new DmC too.
Like.. Vergil really is my oldest "Oh my god he is such a strong guy.. everything about him is so cool!" villian.I really hated how they ruined everything he stood for in new DmC...
Sarper Doğan Actually, I feel they did a good job on his character in DmC. He authority and control over people to compensate for his lack of control in his early life. Meanwhile, with his superiority complex, he wants to 'help' humanity because he sees them as "children who need protection". He later started blaming Kat, Dante, and his mom for his own weak heart and just wanted power in the end. It was pretty good.
Titanicgamerdude I get you on that,i would still argue it is way less mature to think in that way compared to normal Vergil but that wouldn't be too much of a problem for me if that was what defined Vergil in DmC.What pointed out what kind of villian or character he was just one scene, the scene he shot Mundus's unborn child, waited a second for the woman to realise and scream and offing the woman with the rifle.Till here it is fucked up but the thing is... he smiled the camera shows him making a smirk. That kind of character is miles away from what Vergil was.He isn't a sadistic guy with a wish or lust for revenge. He was always a guy on a mission, wanting to protect his loved ones and doing what is necesarry to acquire a power that is needed for that.My theory is(I think it is pretty likely..) that the reason Vergil went "Bad" in 3 was becouse he had a son(Nero) and a lover he wanted to protect.Unlike how he failed to do with his mother he was ready to do anything to prevent the same thing from happening again to his family.
Sarper Doğan Well, the flaw with that theory is that Vergil showed *no* remorse or qualms for fighting his brother. Both incarnations are obsessed with gaining power to compensate for their insecurities for not being able to protect their mom. The old incarnation felt more like an anti-villain, while the new one felt more anti-heroish. The older one felt less evil while still showing his selfish nature, while the new one was selfish, but was far more inclined to do atrocious acts to get his way (or control). In the end, their motives are nonetheless the same: Obtain more power. The old one seems more honorable, honest, and straighforward with obtaining his tho (wanted to get it on his own). The new one showed a willingness to manipulate other people and dispose of them like puppets when no longer useful (killed Mundus' kid for no legit reason and killed Lilith) while being completely blind to Kats awesome efforts due to the superiority complex. Seeing him fall even further into insanity and still wanting more power *even* after he became the new demon king (Vergil's Downfall) was totally cool.
Its the difference between a boss theme that you only hear and one that you had to fight an impactiful boss to remember. Two examples of this effect is Sturm from advance wars, players still hearing the sounds of him obliterate your army in explosions alongside his theme, another one is cynthia from pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum, you cannot unhear her theme without the low hp sound effect of your pokemon dying.
It's remarkable how incredibly good DMC3 and its soundtrack are to this day. It holds up shockingly well and seems to only get better every time I play it.
Lady: Are you crying? Dante: It's only the rain. Lady: But the rain already stopped. Dante: Devils never cry. Lady: I see. Maybe somewhere out there even a devil may cry when he loses a loved one. Don't you think?
"Give that to me" "No way you got you're own." "Well I Want yours to" "What are you gonna do with all that power huh no matter how hard you try you'll never be like father" "YOUR WASTING TIME!" *Charges Dante with Force edge both Dante catching Force edge Vergil Catching Rebellion* "We are the sons of sparda within each of us flows his blood but more importantly!" *Vergil and Dante Fly back from each other* "HIS SOUL! And now my soul is saying it wants to stop you!" "Hehahahaha...Unfortunately our souls are at odds brother...I need more power" "And were suppose to be twins...." "Twins...Right" *Let the most epic and Hard Hack/Slash fight begin*
Devil may cry 3 will always have a special place in every DMC fan no matter how games will be released in future, the music the fight style the design the story the characters
I remember back then when I got to this fight for the first time, it was the most epic thing in the world. Now, many years later, I came back to play it again and I can't even describe how epic it was. Fighting at the same level as Vergil in this epic set-up, blocking and dodging each other's hits, using DT at the same time and having it last the same time for both of us, it was the most epic thing ever, next to Metal Gear. ...Maybe... a bit more even...
This theme has literally all, Dramatic moment, emotional moment, struggle moment and epicness moment, 2 twin brother fighting to the death cause of different thought, and the result of this battle is really tragic cause vergil just decided to stay in the demon world and dante return to the overworld
i actually cried when i finished the last fight against vergil . . not because i was sad but because he kept fucking me up and i FINALLY DESTROYED HIM barely ...and yes i was sad when he fell into the demon realm
I still remember being a teenager and playing this game like it was yesterday. Hearing this was building up such a climax that I new it was final boss material.
