@@MrObsidus Yes he is. He has a pad near his left hand. Nothing to be ashamed of though. Dude is not an extreme metal drummer by any means, so he had to figure a clever way to play this stuff.
BIG fan of the direction he’s taking his live performances. I loved seeing him the past but the performances seemed disconnected due to the over production of the show. This is much more raw and we all know raw Devy is the best Devy :)
How is this more "raw" than DTP? Outside of the extra vocalists which DTP did play with at least on occasion and the different musicians this is very much the same. I see the overall value in this temporary lineup for the first leg of the empath tours but I fail to see the extra "rawness" you speak of.
Sev Black when he performed with backing tracks it was difficult to tell what was being performed and what was pre recorded. His sound was too perfect and too tight for a live show IMO. Sounded kind of robotic. This is all human emotion baby, flaws and all!
@@legojunk53 yeah sure I believe I was aware of that. I guess I just think of raw as describing a variety of more significant changes than just those things. Something like his acoustic shows I could see you saying are "raw".
Jesus Christ hearing this song with a new set of members feels so surreal in a good way. Seeing Diego there rocking it as well made it even better. I'm really loving these. Thanks for these uploads! I really hope to see Dev live at least once in my life
Loving this! for those who are whinging about DTP doing it better, you try capturing the spirit of this song entirely live with no backing tracks and tell me you can do better. imperfections in performance is what makes live music exciting. Where was everyone each time Ryan butchered Juular live? it sounded garbage. at least this performance has heart in it. But then again, maybe im just showing my age
@@Overton_Windows I agree with you. i think it'll take time before they feel more comfortable playing with each other. they only had 6 rehearsals before the tour started i think?
Fun and creative...and a different take drum wise on an epic song. I applaud Devin for moving out of his comfort zone but hope he gets another band on par with DTP's chemistry.
Oh come on. It's an entire new band playing its first show after barely having time to rehearse. That they still kicked out a killer version of Kingdom is freaking amazing. I can't even begin to express how dumb it is to compare them to DTP and the chemistry acquired after many many years playing together.
Morgan Agren is an incredible drummer but is not a mainly metal drummer. He's not really a blast-beat guy, as you can see he's using his left hand for the double kick patterns on a trigger pad. Still, the dude is an amazing drummer, and he was the one who played on the majority of empath, just not songs like "Hear Me"
Yeah I've gotta say I think I prefer Anna Maria over Che/the choir unfortunately. I really dug the sound of Che with Devin on Casualties Of Cool. I guess we'll see how it pans out as they get more shows under their belt. Glad I'm seeing them in March after they get a feel for each other haha.
@@Erin_Metal To be honest I kinda wish they'd ditch the 3 piece choir before my show haha. Oh well though, worst case scenario is we all wait till Vol 2 of the tour which is full metal set and will be good no matter what lol.
@@Erin_Metal Yup same. This will be the first time I finally get to see Dev so I'm excited but I still can't wait to see the Heavy Devy side of things more LOL
Sorry but this makes me miss DTP. The drums are just not all there. RVP, Brain, Mike, and Dave had a certain touch that made the band tight without having to have a 10 piece band.
I think the main weird thing is the closed hi hat. The Kick drum is there and sounds great. Also, Ryan's snare just sounded bigger and fatter. Morgan's snare is tighter because of the style he plays. I still like it and i'm sure it sounds great in person
