After much consideration, Devin is probably the only person in the world who could tell me to buy something because he likes it, and I would, without question.
I know, right? Not only is he one of the most creative and talented people I've seen, he's also a tone and production master (or should I say monster?).
Devin Townsend deserves a musical place alongside Phil Spector (but without the nasty Phil Spector crime). His musicianship and production is so signature.
I've been looking at a lot of delay pedals recently, there's a huge number out there nowadays, but for me, this one looks like the one to have. If the sound quality is good enough for Devin then that sets the bar pretty high. It looks like it's going to be very versatile in terms of the scope of sounds it can produce and having MIDI control, full stereo and line-level capabilities is awesome. Fingers crossed that the price will be affordable as suggested. Can't wait :-)
Yep this is the pedal for me....exactly what I need... looking at other reverb/delay pedals they totally boring compared to this :) .... and there's a looper
I’ve been a guitarist for nearly 49 years but with the addition of the MOM, plus a moog synth I’ve become an ambient (artist?) as well. If you’re considering buying one but think it might be somewhat inundating; thrust me, it’s very well thought out and therefore it’s relatively easy to learn. Sound wise, the sky is the limit so it’s an endlessly fun tool for sound creation. No, I’m not being paid. I just really like it.
The order of effects is so important in creating sounds. Reverb doesn't have to come at the end. Why not have your modulations after the delays and reverbs? Use the same effect twice. Experimentation is the route to creativity. No effects is nice too.
Just in case you are into DAW and recording you may want to try a bit by yourself using your DAW's options. As he said, for the "basic" delay ambience a serial setup of delay > reverb > delay will make it. Sounds too easy but after my first try with Cubase plugs I am pretty amazed! Not saying it reproduced the box but -hey- in your DAW you are quite free and you can try many stuff additionally with no bucks! I got rather directly a brilliant sounding long tailed ambience revdelay which let me play few nice new ideas in a second! Though I want that box! 😀
I've been doing so much production in DAW, but I already have a collection of hardware synths that I want to play more with and it's just pain to plug everything to PC and modulate with mouse the effects you want. Now this is probably what I've been searching for and the fact that it has MIDI exponentialy increases its potential. Delay lives and dies with synchronization.
I Absolutely loved this one, it's what I was looking for, a past chamber, reverb, delay and looper together, excellent, good job all of you, gonna get it now.
I was already pretty much sold from what I knew already, but the ambient / noise stuff he showed really put it over the top. Terrified of what the price may wind up being because I just can't break the bank on something like this. For now, I've set aside a few hundred for it, and will cross my fingers that they can deliver on what he said about affordability.
I've been hearing that the pedal will cost around $250-300, which is honestly pretty good considering all the pedal can do. Hopefully those rumours are true!
Devin said it would be affordable for pretty much anyone but sadly $250-$300 is not affordable for me at this time. :( II hope it will be cheaper but I'm not holding my breath knowing all that it does.
Devin has gifted us something special here. Us mere mortals who grew up listening to all of his music can now attempt to get lost in our own waves of sound. Beautiful!
From the Bat-Shit maestro himself. Just bought this and does everything I could hope for. Been a fan since SYL-SYL and Punky Bruster. He needs to make a vocal pedal counterpart to this.
Hi there, nice review! I'm interested in this device but I don't know if it locks/syncs the looper and the delays to an external master tempo midi source in my case a Singular Sound BeatBuddy and if it does, could I bypass that midi tempo to another device (a TC- Helicon Voicelice 3) via the midi thru output? I read the manual but did'nt find the answer. Can you tell me something about it? Thanks in advance. Cheers from Portugal.
The output sound in this thing may die on you after a couple of years. Mine just did and now I am discovering how many others have had the same issue, with no solutions in sight or any replies from Mooer 'support' team. Be warned.
Mine as well. It’s a shame. And the firmware is abandonware after one or two updates shortly after the release. It serves as a brick. Not buying anything from mooer again
at 11:22 my jaw instantly dropped and i knew ... I NEED THIS THING !!!! amazing pedal for my electronic music production, i know it already !!! when is the release? :-)
Amazing pedal! But when shall that so awaited midi clock sync firmware update be released? Come on! That would be so simple for you to do and so many people would benefit from it!!
I gotta have one of these pedals-the coolest delay effects I have seen. For years I have been running a couple of delays and reverbs and flangers to get spacey sounds. This pedal would really make things much less complicated than trying to fine tune several pedals at once and also make it much much cheaper.
Devin mentions putting it up on a stand or table. I also imagine using it like this. Is there a way to have a foot-switch control the looper so this is easier?
Pressing this button will create a freeze... doesn't freeze..... actually no pressing this will create a freeze.... doesn't freeze I'm still buying one
With the Trail function in "off" (truebypass mode), does it give a little fuss? Is this caused by the conversion of signals when triggered the effects key?
Whoa, super cool sounds. It would be nice to hear the more basic sounds of this pedal to. For example, just a simple reverb when you play in a rock band. If the subtile stuff is great to, I will buy it. How is this thing powerd?
Does the ocean machine have a preamp, meaning can I run my guitar straight through the ocean machine to an enclosure? Thanks fir any help you folks can give. I’m most appreciative.
I was seriously considering buying this but there are an awful lot of reviews which say that it either fails or freezes after limited use. Just can't risk it so will have to look elsewhere.
I usually stick to TC Electronic (the majority) and MXR (a few) with True Bypass and I know True Bypass and Buffers are debated but from my experience pedals with Buffers like Boss Pedals ruin my tone. I think it also depends on the music you are playing though, anyway for me True Bypass has worked wonders and lets me have a lot of pedals while still retaining my amp's punch and power. I can't find any info if this is true bypass or not but damn I really want it.
Is it possible to set the tempo manually and not via the tap function? It is very difficult to set the tempo to a specific value, for example 120 bpm, using the tap function ... Manual setting would be a great help in setting the Delay. Could it be changed in the software to display the tempo in bpm and not in ms?
It's an Eventide Time Factor, and there are *many* problems with it. Spillover doesn't work properly, no dry-through signal, the analogue delays are crap...just to mention a few.
Is Dev running the O-Machine through the effects loop or direct in? I always get a completely chaotic un-listenable version of my clean delay setting when I run it direct in and not the loop.
Thank u for the great demo n putting this pedal out there for us at such a great price I was gonna get the tc electronic xf delay but I just changed my mind!!!!
