I only got to see him as the opening act to DreamTheater in Rome, but he was absolutely magical. My wife recorded a video of me tearing up to the intro of Kingdom. Absolutely fantastic experience.

When you see a band live for the first time without having listened to them ever and they become one of your favorite bands… well that just happened to me after seeing them at Dream Sonic in Dallas with Dream Theater and Animals as a leaders
Any updates on your journey? I've taken many people through this ride and I will say even if not everyone falls in love (though most do) - They all agree Devy is just such a divine character with godly musical abilities. And the emotions he can evoke with his music is just unmatched in my opinion.
I only discovered Devin Townsend a few days ago.. There is definitely a pre and post-discovery milestone in my life with this music. It seems to have raised everything to another level, like LiDAR did with the discovery of ancient Mayan ruins in the jungles of Guatemala.

I am too, as well as of A Perfect Circle. I consider him and Maynard to be the gods of vocals. I'm a vocalist myself. Dev is definitely amazing. Never seen anyone do what he does live
He's not much of a solo playing guy. It has to fit with the song and not just be a random bit of fast nonsense. I agree with the philosophy and his solos are always perfect and tastefully written to enhance the song, not just a look at me and what I can do kind of thing.
I got to see the last DTP show ever in Vancouver. I didn't know that many grown adults could cry at once. But there we were, sobbing. God bless you Dev. Still going strong you sexy nerd you.

I could hate this music (I don't) and I'd still attend this bc of the atmosphere. It's so much togetherness it's overwhelming. I could hear Devin reading off his grocery list and I'd attend. He'd make it interesting. What a lovely soul.

I don't feel that everything is better. Drums are doing too much @ 4:11 with crash and open hi-hat instead of closed hi-hat, and too much accents on the kick @4:21. Gene Hoglan did it better on the album with the more subtle approach.
All right, that got me. I've just bought the Blue Ray on Amazon (it was the last one). I've also pre-ordred the next blue ray (Order of Magnitude-Empath Live Volume 1). I wanted to add a small stone : i listenned quite much the Terria album, when i felt sad, fifteen years ago. That epic version here nearly had me cried. I respect and love so much that guy.
What scares me is that, usually, you see people suggesting other artists to people on videos like this. Either I am blind or there is no artist that can come close to replacing him. Not that I want him replaced, I just want to see what the next generation of artists who were moved by him look like.
I love how they make the end riff run twice, I always felt the part after "Suffer!" was way too short on the record...it ends after like 10 seconds but I feel it could go waaaaaay longer.

It's the part @ 4:26 with (what sounds like) a g-minor arpeggio that makes me literally go for kleenex every. Damn. Time. It's fucking beautiful. This is classical music, and it's called that for a reason.
