When you mean 'top this' you're implying that Sony's and Ubisoft's Conferences can't do any worse this is did...right? This was a joke i get it, but to me I feel the joke was in Devolver's hands with how little effort they put into the thought of this joke. It was a good attempt mind you, but this was the best they could come up with...? What was the point in having a press conference when they could've just released the trailers instead? At least Bethesda's conference was more entertaining for me to watch than this. With how previous Bethesda Conferences went and how memorable they were, I think they knew that beforehand that they couldn't top their previous ones with the content they had, but at least there was some content and it's releasing in 2017. This was a joke in comparison and really a worse slap in the face than Bethesda did.
BigBadBaraSkeleton they showed it at E3 too. They actually rented a conference room there just to show it off. Interestingly enough this was their first year officially attending E3.
The E3 is dumb, it's there just to shove lies up your ass and make you waste money on false promises. Devolver knows that. That's why they made a shitpost in the E3 conference, they don't care. They are an Indie team, they sell games because they are good not because a corporate man told you it's good.
They couldn't have done better. I assume you don't know shit, but it's hard to compete with AAA titles by using conventional marketing, like showing cinematic trailers and listing future features and slight improvements over previous games' features + cringy nerd jokes. "-New aiming reticle everyone! MOAR HYPE PLS!" Crowd: **applause** -YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Did you guys just spend a massive amount of money on an E3 press conference just to make fun of everyone else spending massive amounts of money to have an E3 conference? "The unethical business practices of tomorrow, today" indeed! Good show!
Their point still stands. Good for them for being the ones willing to spend the resources to send this important message to gamers. A big part of the video game industry is getting twisted by greed. It's producing AAA games of shit quality and people are feeding into it. We need to change some things if we want to preserve any sense of authenticity within the video game industry.
"The most frustrating part is that I exist to sustain other beings which have no inherent purpose" *immediately devoured by an insatiable mouth-creature in top-hat and formal gloves, capable only of consuming everything it comes in contact with* I relate to self-concerned burrito on every level.
This was 2 games in 5 minutes. This felt like it dragged on longer than Bethesda's Conference. At least Bethesda had better content to show than this. Ruiner and Serious Sam's Bogus Detour...really? I was really disappointed in this conference way more than Bethesda's.
You know, behind all the meta critiquing of shady marketing tactics and such, this conference is itself marketing to us by appealing to young gamers sense of ironic absurdist meta humor. Well played Devolver.
everybody perfectly understood what was going on, this was about as subtle as a bullet through the butthole. they just thought this wasn't that great either
you can actually go find it at stock image web sights if you look up "audince reacting" example: www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-17053483-4k-cinema-audience-reacts-scary-movie-focus
This was like the bitter medicine E3 needed to swallow. Maybe the message will get through and E3 will stop being a complete cringefest. Even if it doesn't, at least we still have this, and by god is it beautiful.
The VERY best thing about this whole affair is that next year at E3 we are going to see other companies copying this style of presentation, and failing miserably.
I can still remember getting so hyped for E3 around this time especially with the Nintendo Switch being out. I then saw this E3 and couldn't believe this was the beginning of a saga that would keep going for years on end. It's too bad though that we now don't have an official E3 anymore but it truly has been a ride seeing what devolver digital would present along with all the twist and turns they had planned!
That's what I was hoping for too. Instead we got two trailers for sub-par games. Ruiner looks alright, but it's not my cup of tea and then there's Serious Sam's Bogus Detour...*facepalm* so they made a mini-game somewhat like what they did in the 1st Black Ops game. I think the game was called Dead Ops and this looked very similar to that which is a good thing, but I was still expecting something better than what they showed.
It's a mini-game because its a top-down shooter? Ok lol Plenty of great, full games, that are top-down shooters. Like Hotline Miami, Nuclear Throne, etc. But, hey, let's just pretend all top-down shooters are the same and you will get the same experience playing the mediocre mini-game in Black Ops that you will an actual game.
Well, when it comes to e3 it always been like this, those who goes for serious presentation, gets cringe, those who try humorous presentations get cringe, now if you go straight for cringe what do you get? success.
I love how every time the mocap guy runs out, one of the little balls on his suit falls off and rolls across the stage. I dunno if that was intentional or not but it's a brilliant touch.
