In this video I go over the DeWalt Retractable Utility Knife DW10035. This is a great utility knife that is durable and built to last. It will hold two blades safely in the handle and changing a blade out on the go takes about 10 seconds without any special tools.

THANK YOU! Could NOT remember how to change the blade and learned not only how to do that but other little tricks that make these arthritic fingers so much happier. I appreciate your speed and thoroughness of your review. I agree: DeWalt delivers!

Im thankful for you just changing a blade on this. I thought the black button was not grabbing the blade to push back far enough and i know to use the front crevice/dip slot. It just was not grabbing. I did slime it up a bit and that helps. So I knew I was doing mechanics correctly.

I felt so damn stupid. This knife came with my tape measure. I can't believe I had to watch an instructional video on installing a utility knife blade. Thanks a million. 🤦

HOW TO INSERT & REMOVE BLADES: A major number of negative reviews, and comments pertain to the seeming inability to insert & remove blades. This is due to Dewalt's inadequate blade insertion instructions, and not due to a faulty blade insertion/ removal mechanism. However Dewalt needs a less tricky more user friendly mechanism. Ease of Blade insertion and removal is "tricky" not difficult, or impossible once mastered, as follows: BLADE INSERTION: 1. Move the blade slider to full forward as if you were extending a blade to its fully extended position. This fully extended position of that blade slider is needed both to remove, & to insert a blade. 2. Initially Insert the blade tip at a 45° angle to the top of the blade cavity (not the flat side, but the top of the blade cavity) until insertion stops at about 1/4 of the way in. Be sure the flat of the blade is not inserted at any angle to the flat of the blade cavity, which it will do easily. Unless and until the flat of the blade is exactly lined up with the flat of the blade cavity you will not be able to proceed to steps 3. thru 5. below. 3. Straighten the top of the blade from its initial 45° angle to the top of the blade cavity in step 2 above, to instead where the top of the blade is totally parallel to the top of the blade cavity. I emphasize the word totally here. This is the tricky part. By totally parallel above I mean so the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity totally. The blade will then slide further into the cavity to where only the last of the two notches atop the blade is yet visible. 4. Press the blade release button hard while executing step 5 below. Note: This blade release button does not have to be pressed until step 5. below. 5. While being sure the top of the blade is still totally against the top of the blade cavity ( this is the tricky part per step 3. above). Then in that event with the blade release button pressed hard, per step 4. above, the blade should then easily glide completely into the blade cavity, and lock in place. Wallah! BLADE REMOVAL: 1. Fully extend the blade.. 2. Press the blade release button hard while executing step 3. below. An even harder press of the blade release button may be needed to release the blade than the hard press of it needed for blade insertion. Ridiculously hard! 3. Be sure the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity, whereby with the blade release button pressed extremely hard the blade should then remove easily. Note: If the blade does not then remove easily then in that event: A. Again be sure the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity. B. And/ or a little gentle jiggling. C. And or a relaxing, and repressing ( again very hard) of the blade release button may be needed. Wallah!

Very helpful. Personally, I've had a hard time pushing the button hard enough, so I remove the rubber grip above the blade and stick a thin flat screwdriver in there to push the catch instead. Then I lift the blade up as I pull it out.

Bought one and ran into 2 problems. #1: The remnants of the card were jammed into the blade area. Needle nose pliers and 20 minutes worth of coaxing finally removed all the paper shreds. I considered burning it out! #2: Inserted a blade, it disappeared into the bowels of the knife, little tab button won't engage. Summary: Paperweight. $13 gone.

Before I take it back I'm going to give it the old college try. I've completely disassembled it and do the army-ish field strip. Now that I see the internals it's not one of DeWalt's better efforts.

You had to push pretty hard to get the blade in like that but your mistake was not having the blade slide mechanism slid all the forward to the point the blade would be in the cutting position if a blade was loaded.
@matthewhall1068

I know I know this video is old and blah blah blah lolol but how come not a single person in any video I've watched talks about the fact you can lock it from folding open if you do have a blade loaded in it?? Do people just not know about it or something?? Do people not play with the new tools they just bought😂😂lolol.?? That was something I found out about within 2 minutes of owning it!! But in case you really had no idea. Here's how. 1. Make sure blade is loaded! 2. Close the knife all the way to it being folded closed! 3. Push down on the blade slide and slide it to the half way point where it locks and boom!! Now your knife is locked completely folded shut and will not open until you pull the blade slide back to closed position!!! Hope some one or every one learned from this comment!! Like stated above I know how old this video is but I watched every single video on this knife and not a single one of guys mentioned it and I thought it was the best part as I have a 3 Y/O son who loves to be just like dad and is getting into my tools!

to those that still need help: your blade may not be slid open all the way. i could not get mine out until I figured that out. I pressed up on the slider harder and it finally clicked one last time to fully extend the blade, then it came right out after pressing the black button.

When loading blade Make sure you slide the blade slide mechanism all the way forward till it is all the way past the last clicking point(where blade would be in the out position if it was loaded) and the press the black button while sliding the blade in to the knife once you hear or feel a click let go of black button and pull blade out just to make sure it's locked in !! Really hope this helps someone.

@Patrick O'Brien they've changed the design. Cutting costs cut quality as well. My blade hasn't fallen our because I can't get the thing in.
@charlessalzman4377
@charlessalzman4377 4 года назад
@Patrick O'Brien Button barely pushes in when thumb slider is pushed forward. Something in the slider makes that extremely difficult. So I could sit and try to force it more, holding a razor sharp blade between my fingers as I apply way more force than should be necessary. Or I could do the smart thing, buy a better tool and return the PoS. There are a lot of posts on here with the same exact problem. I watched this video and the one from the manufacturer, Both videos show a slightly different device than what I purchased, by that I mean that the button to open the storage area is now a tab. The manufacturer made a cheaper to construct version of the tool and it shows.

I was so disappointed it doesn't work properly, I don't wanna think someone at the quality department is not doing a good job, I don't only say it for a 12 buck utility knife, like even their battery packs are garbage and so expensive, I'm done with dewalt.

They changed the design. The storage compartment is now a tab and not a button. And the blades are not as earth to change. Quality has gone way down from the video shown. I have a 13 dollar piece of trash right now.
