What a great explanation. I was just watching videos about DI and going down a rabbit hole. I’m glad I didn’t have to go too far to see that it is preferred to use the ro and di together and not just the ro by itself.

I use two squirts of Jet Dry in my unfiltered tap water and the results have been good enough to earn me $80k for a month of seasonal commercial work per year for twenty years. 45 ft. aluminum pole system is about $800, 1/4 hp pump is $299, 250ft. 1/4 in. nylon hose is $150, brushes are $20 ea. and some copper tube with holes drilled for the spray was $5. Old RCMP Suburban 2500 was $9k and the 5'x5'x4' water tank came on a high pressure, hot water sewer blaster trailer the city crew had dumped at the local metal dump. A Warwick Ind. 20' manlift also came from an old cable company van at the metal dump. Wiring, new hydraulic motor and mount welding, $900. All figures are CDN dollars.

Great Video! My TDS/PPM reading here out of tap is 250+ So, I collect rain water in a 275 gallon tote, runs about 2 to 10 ppm. Then I transfer it to my 275 gallon tank on my enclosed trailer, and then through my di filter. Note: I also do mobile detailing. I also recharge/regenerate my own di resin. This saves a lot of money. Maybe one day I’ll make a video on this. Thanks for the videos guys, really enjoy them!

So... Back when I washed windows in college, my boss (who was the owner) would send me out with mile of garden hose, a giant aluminum tucker pole, and the worse field repair kit you have ever seen... The guy had huge contracts all over the greater Seattle area (public, private, you name it). Turns out Seattle area water was between 140ppm -170ppm and we never used any of this filtration stuff... And me being new to window cleaning, I had no clue it was even a thing. Yet the windows always turned out looking awesome.... Fast forward to today I'm living in a place with water that ranges from 170-200ppm and I have some jobs that would be easy to rock with a tucker pole (COVID got me back into window cleaning)... Yet, I'm wondering, what do you actually get from any of these filtration systems in a lifetime? I used to do multi million dollar properties every day using no filtration on either tucker pole nor the pressure washer... And, I've personally seen new windows destroyed by hard water (200ppm), and know how long it roughly takes (a new wing was added to a building I did regularly, I told the landscape guys they were installing sprinkler heads too close to the windows and the overspray would ruin them, they didn't listen. Turns out I got to witness first hand the destruction process of the bottom 2 windows getting blasted by hard water sprinklers overspray around the whole building)... The sprinklers ran 1 hour in the morning and 1 hours in the evening every day, it took 3 days (6 total hours of hard water exposure) before any hard water spots started to appear upon close inspection (meaning, you had to clean and squeegee the window, then angle your face right, and you could begin to see the rings of mineral deposit forming). By day 7 (14 total hours of hard water exposure) for the stains to become obviously noticeable standing 3 feet away. After 14 days (28 total hours of hard water exposure) you could touch the glass start to physically feel the raised mineral stains, and by a month (50 ish hours of total hard water exposure), the raised stains become mounds that ceased to grow anymore and the glass was so rough it would just destroy a squeegee... So, my question is... If a water fed pole (using say 200ppm hard water) is on the glass for say 30 seconds and it takes 6 hours of constant hard water exposure (which equates to roughly 720 tucker pole cleanings) before hard water stains even become barely noticeable, how is the cost for such a system justified? Because the tucker pole jobs I did, they would never get done if you had to lug all that stuff around... But maybe my perspective is all wrong because I might have been taught to do windows by morons and not known any better...

Thank you Reanna and Luke, hope your fall season is going well? I just ordered a DI system. Where I live in Idaho most of the area is 100 ppm kinda late in the season for some, but I have new customers on Residential that want the WFP so its a no brainer for me. Investing in myself and time is how I look at it.

Hey, Luke just wanted to give you some additional information from a water treatment point of view. So all water has Calcium and Magnesium (both of which have a positive charge) in it, the more you have the harder the water is. Now the reason you have to exchange the resign is that when Calcium and Magnesium pass through the resign (which is saturated with Sodium ions) they will exchange their place with the Sodium ion. Now in traditional water softeners at home, you would backwash with a strong sodium solution to replace the sodium ions on the resin that were lost, but because you can not do that on the IO systems you have to replace the resigns. Also, the way a RO membrane works is they are constructed with tightly wound fibers (I want to say they are fiberglass) water is being forced through those fibers leaving behind any impurities. PS. Love the videos man! Source: I am a Water Treatment Operator :)

would there be a difference if the RO filter and the DI tank were swapped in your 3 stage set up? I was under the impression from talking to someone in the car wash business that a 3 stage system went 1. Charcoal Filter, Water Softener (DI) and then RO Filter. Just curious on you thoughts regarding that. Thanks in advance.
@petebowl7946
@petebowl7946 Год назад
Why would you abused the DI resin so much when you can take out 90%+ of the TDS with the RO system before? In your example they’re would be no reason to even have a RO stage 3 because the DI on stage 2 would reduce your TDS ppm to zero. You would be burning through a lot of resin and would be running already pure water through a RO membrane which would be doing nothing at all.
