Addresses made to HM The Queen by the speakers of The Houses of Parliament on the occasion of her visit to Westminster Hall to give a Loyal Address and receive a Diamond Jubilee gift from members of the houses.
i love your channel so much...im from the Philippines and i love the queen...God Save the Queen...how i wish Philippines is part of the commonwealth...:)
lilJuvis15, I second that. I'm American and wish a long life to the Queen. She and the U.K. are respected here in a unique way. I had the great luck of seeing the Queen at Westminster Abbey. I am truly amazed how she carries on in a job that has to be very difficult. God Bless and Save the Queen !
You are correct, in flag protocol, the Royal Standard is supreme. It must only be flown from buildings when the monarch is present. It flies above the British Union Flag (Union Jack), Standards of other Royal Family members, and other British flags. It never flies at half staff.
It's not difficult, I think, in the traditional sense. But always having to put your best foot forward, to have you and your family in the public eye with tabloids ready to tear into you, to have to present yourself as the face of the UK engagement after engagement, to have the weight hundreds of years of tradition on you while having to face constant criticism for being outdated, and for having to do this for 60 years and more to come, etc...well I certainly wouldn't want that position.
It is quite funny seeing our 2 previous Prime Ministers there and the technically 2 we have now because of the UK's first coalition government in 70 years. Lets see what happens at the next election on the 7th May 2015 :-D Exciting :-D
The Queen Mother however, made it absolutely clear that she had nothing against homosexuals. On the contrary, her late Majesty actively employed gay men in her household when it was still illegal to be gay. One of her great friends was Noel Coward and on a visit by him to Clarence House the Queen Mother observed him looking at one of the pages. She commented to Noel Coward "I shouldn't if I were you Noel, they count them before they put them out" (or words very strongly to this effect). :-D
I dont think he was impressed with the Speaker of the House of Commons...and rather unusually Elizabeth didnt look too happy when the Speaker began calling her a "Kaleidoscope Queen" Even a staunch parliamentarian shouldnt support embarrising the Monarch. Jubilee Celebrations arent really the place to champion your political cause of gay rights, as many believe he did, particularly not to a Non/Neutral Poltical deeply spiritual Christian
