Diamond T 981 climbing last hill before it's home

after 23 hours non stop and 334 miles we climb the last hill before the truck arrives back at it's home out side Bristol, just in time for the rain!!
got to wait till september know when myself and Jason (owner of the Diamond T) go on another trip to the GoodWood revival with a 1944 Sherman tank.

Thank you very much for posting this mate, my old dad was in tank recovery in the Middle East in the 50s, we've got loads of photos of him and his oppos with the "tractor and drag",as he used to call it, lovely to see the gear change he used to describe as being "a bit of an art" being done so well,,, ta for very much,

your most welcome, i have a few photos that old drivers have given me from when they drove across Europe and a few from early post war Germany but sadly those gentlemen are gone know. have put the photo's into albums to preserve them.

jason has been driving that truck 22 years know towing tanks all around the uk and into france and holland. very skilled man feel very privileged to be able to learn the skills from him.

@@samuelgoddard5248 I'm sure I've seen that wagon or similar at W&P years ago. I'm an AEC fan myself, and respect anyone who knows how to drive these old lorries, the constant mesh and earlier sliding mesh gearboxes take some getting used to but are a joy to drive, they keep you alert, especially in traffic😁

@@brianosborne9446 jason did use to go to w&p with that truck and trailer in the early 2000's. there a really easy truck to drive specially jason's as it has thousands of miles on it. mine is really tight but getting better. like the matadors there a cool truck but definitely a T guy

yes 2 gear boxes in line, 1 bolted direct to the engine (4 speed) then a 3 speed auxiliary, typical american practice.

@@deborahchesser7375 i know there generally referred to as a brownie but in the original US & British army manuals they refer to it as an auxiliary. not sure if that's military practice of the time or if it's because it's a Fuller transmission?
