Plus, candidates were chosen from a limited member upper class (white) caste and had to be approved for courtship long before marriage could even be considered. Race (or even ethnic) mixing often meant diluting a long established culture and threatened to weaken/alter a specific culture's continuity regarding language, religion, traditions, morality, manners, etc. Multiculturalism is a relatively recent trend that still is not and will never be embraced by all. Few of QE's generation or earlier accepted everyone equally, I think.
