I suppose "Beauty" IS truly in the eyes of the beholder and the ears of the hearer, because this clip, to me, is "DEFINITIVE" Ross! Also, it is so obvious that Johnny Carson concurs! She was, is and forever will be the "BOSS"! She is so unique in style and performance here........I was breathless, too, upon seeing this clip of her in her glory! I had not seen this since it first aired back in the day! "Carry On", Lady Diana!!
Her lives are ALWAYS way better than the studio versions! She needs to release all the live albums of her studio albums! I’d stream them like no tomorrow.
I actually prefer her live versions better than her studio recordings. They always seem more lively when she performs them live in front of an audience. I saw her in concert in Boston many years ago and she was fantastic.
LIKEWISE!! When I was just a teenager, going through all my drama in life, Diana, without knowing, got me through the tough times . . . . if she only knew . . .
@@shannonallaround9490PERIODDD! She just learned to sing soft, but always sang from the gospel in live performances! She sang soft in the studio versions to appease white audiences
I was nineteen may be twenty when this song came out I was in the military and I traveled to Washington DC perform this song and several other songs this song was clearly a song of love and happiness for me
That fateful night after Central Park. This is so 80s for me. Recording multiple copies on VHS. I was worn out after the first day in Central Park. I had to enjoy the 2nd day with a friend in Boston.
This should have been pushed as the lead single, could've been Top 10, she sounds great singing it, great message, and could've been a concert staple to this day for her. Just a great song, Berry Gordy probably loved it!
I think Diana missed some opportunities with RCA. First, she got a little lazy with promotion. She needed to hit the road instead of relying just on television. She needed to reconnect radio.
God bless Diana Ross she is a a treasure to everybody may the Lord bless her real good I love her singing very much she has been an inspiration to me I pray that you keep on singing as long as the Lord let her sing God bless you Diana Ross love Shirley
I love her talent, grace and poise. You just don't' see that with today's music stars. Diana's voice here was much more powerful than she usually delivers. Some prefer it. I don't.
I remember this Johnny Carson I waited til she came on this song is from the Ross album which had the hit Pieces of Ice what a great performance love her
Am I the only one that noticed that Ms. Ross’s hair was a dark brown here and opposed to the usual black? She looks stunning here and sounded amazing. I love anything to do with the Ross (83) album. Shame there aren’t more performances and concerts from this time to see
Diana Ross has far more class than many of today's and past divas, including the late Whitney Houston RIP. She did things no other female artist did with her huge concerts in NY etc. Michael Jackson truly idolized her and even used some of her stage presence, many people don't know that.
Michael didn’t used her stage presence. His stage presence was his very own yet he did use influence. Most of his stage presence was influence by James brown and Sammy Davis jr……Diana just influence some of his vocal styling like Stevie wonder did also.
@@nakitawilliams4259Trust me, he used certain moves on stage that Diana used, go back and watch them closely. Plus they were close friends and he admired her.
@@jameswarner300 he idolized James brown, Sammy Davis and Jackie Wilson. He used their moves. Diana can’t even dance so that’s automatically invalid nor does she have natural fluid movement like mj has. Just because MJ was in love with her don’t mean y’all have to overstate how much she influenced him. She went through the same walk of life as him and influence some of his vocal styling along with Stevie wonder that’s it. Performing/dancing etc mostly came from JB, Fred Astaire, Bob fosse, Jackie Wilson and Sammy Davis especially since he was a child star as well.
I LOVE JOHNNY CARSON, STEVE ALLEN, JAY LENO, WILLIAM F BUCKLEY JR, CHARLIE ROSE, CONNAN O'BRIEN, SMOTHERS BROTHERS, NAT KING COLE, SONNY & CHER.... FIRST RATE CLASS TELEVISION.
I'm sorry .....you are right Eric Beamon is the jewelry designer. I meant to say Frederic Luca is the designer. He also designed the Pointer Sisters dresses for "I'm so excited.
I don't get why people act like she has the weakest voice on the planet, no range and bad technique.... This was freakin' powerful, her technique (esp. On the high notes) was spot on and she was singing somwhere around f5 repeatedly in the chorus! So... what's the problem? Where is this bad singing?
Raffael W. It's a bunch of lies from hatter's that's all because there's nothing they can truly say with truthfulness but , Diana can sing and she has range and her voice is strong , they're just hatting . I completely agree that was a spot on performance period drop the Mike !!!!
Diana has soo many hits and tours soo many Cities that, she must save her voice to perform. Last year Anita Baker performed at New Orleans Jazz festival, she sung three songs then stated on the mic that she was tired. She sung a fourth song then existed the stage. Diana sings more than four of her songs from each decade. Diana has a sexual, exotic very feminine speaking and singing voice, that is her gift. Today Diana, Dionne, Gladys, Patti, Cher are all doing something that was done when they were girls. Careers at 70 something, women in Hollywood was told it was over at 40, today these women are almost twice that age.🖤👍👏
It's not a silly comment. It's somewhat of a strange outfit, not what she usually wears. Most people remember her as pampered sequin bequeathed chanteuse in drop dead gorgeous stage gowns, not wearing a business outfit ,like she has here.
Yeah looked homemade. Way to drapery looking and doesn’t highlight her amazing figure. She does look beautiful and sounds amazing. Love her high clear voice.
Yes I remember the floor length feathered yellowish overcoat that she wore during 2010 concert it was different I guess wild like but that was just the point to change it up a little shock us and it did but there was nothing you can say about the black sequin gown underneath and I am a dude and just then as in her appearance there is nothing strange with this outfit and I am sure most guys would agree that woman looks damn good and she sang the hell out of that song and I out
BroccoliQueefed you are talking about that wild colored outer coat she wore as an opener it was not her dress but a coat that was wild loud yellowish color not her dress her dress was black with silver rhinestone trimming from the middle of the chest all the way down to the floor and going all around the edges of the train of her dress so that certainly did look like something weird, but the cost was wild giving her an edge we were not expecting from her. But even that wild cost as crazy as it looked was still ok , and just showing an edge and there is nothing wrong with going wild every now and then , do your thang Diana and at this point in your life if you wanna go right ahead and get it . Because there are plenty at your age that can barely walk let alone have some fun with colors and can still pull it off .heck there are plenty people who are on a cane and can barely walk let alone so a whole hour and a half concert and still can walk on their own strength so let that woman do her .and be happy we can still see live under her own strength . Yeah it was wild as hell but ok .but when she pulled that wild thing off you most definitely couldn't say she she was Diana Ross we all know and love lol.!!!!
Ya didn't care for the dress either. Too top heavy, way too much draping. That is the sort of thing she wears now at 72 to hide the weight. But her voice was stellar
In my opinion Diana Ross has an ok singing voice. It was probably good for a lead singer of the supremes but for a solo artist not so much.. She is just ok... Not so amazing.
