She told the detective, "Ok, back to the scene." Like she is describing a movie, or a script. I can't believe how nonchalant and absolutely ice cold she is describing her children. "They looked yellow. Have you ever seen a dead person before? " while giggling. Malignant narcissist and psychopath. I listened to her most recent parole hearing. She hasn't changed. She tried to pretend she wants answers for her children but it's all about her. She is a definite risk to society, but specifically to her children. There is something seriously wrong with her. She is not like the rest of humanity. Something is missing. She should never be released.

The "sightseeing" would have been my first clue. The way to go back to Springfield is Marcola Rd which you have to take anyways to reach the exit for Old Mohawk Rd. As for vegetation and sightseeing both roads are exactly the same. Old Mohawk Rd connects back to Marcola Rd aprox one and half mile ahead, so it would be stupid for anyone driving back to Springfield exit Marcola just to join Marcola again in less than 2 miles. Both are rural 2 lanes road sided by trees and vegetation. But there is a significant difference between the 2 roads at night, Marcola has traffic while Old Mohawk is completely deserted. Any woman with 3 kids in the car would stay in Marcola Rd unless she is looking for an isolated spot where to stop the car without being bothered by passing traffic. There's nothing in Old Mohawk Rd that you don't see in Marcola Rd (vegetation and trees). The whole "sightseeing" crap is nothing but bullshit right there.

Even worse the Dr in the Er that night Dr Miller made a mistake and mixed up Cheryl and Christy’s names so when it was clear that Cheryl had died they told Diane that It was Christy that had passed and she said quote unquote “Ughh really? I've read Ann Rule's Small Sacrifices a few years ago which gives a deep account of Downs' life before, during and after the crimes, but reading something doesn't put you in the moment so well as actually hearing it does. Her TV interviews show how she basks in the attention and she's more animated in those, but this is different again and within hours of the murder and attempted murders and she's totally unconcerned about any of it! She can't even act pitiful for her children's state and her inappropriate behaviour for the circumstances is more horrifying than words in a book can describe.

I used to think she was calm when talking about the murders because they happened a few months/years ago. Here it was so recent. she was so calm!! Also she mentions that she prayed that if they had to die to kill them, but not make them suffer. How could she think that? I think people normally grip to the life of their kids. they would not pray for them to die... these videos are very eye opening. I was supporting diane. i felt bad for her. I have listened to almost every interview Diane Downs has ever been involved in and the lunatic is her own worst enemy. She just never seems to know when to shut up. She just rambles on and on and one thing just rolls into another. The interviewer will blow a little smoke up her ass about how smart she is and boy she really gets to rolling then. During her parole hearings she always goes on and on about somebody being after her and how innocent she is. She rambles on about this and that and just convinces everyone on the parole board that she needs to stay right where she is.

At this point, she wasn't able to see her children freely. If my children had been shot, myself, one dead, the others critical AND they wouldn't let me see my children...I would have been out of my mind in grief, horror, emotional exhaustion, trauma and sadness that they would have had to sedate me or put me on suicidal watch. No way a mother would be as calm as her. I would have hardly been able to do any interviews let alone one where I was calm. I always had normal, slight doubts watching her interviews. Not after this. This is horrible and I wish we knew the real truth of what happened that day. Idk if she shot them or had help but I know she did it. That is a voice that feels nothing.
@micheleerwin2848

Oh, Diane was the one who shot her kids. I truly believe she acted alone. She is sick and twisted enough to do this all on her own. She wanted to be with her boyfriend and he made it clear that he did not want to be a daddy to her kidd. She had dreams of building a house where the kids would be on one end, and Diane and her married boyfriend would live on the other. I have no doubt she would have expected those kids to take care of themselves, as her boyfriend didn't want any part of them. Susan Smith was in the same situation. She was in love with the son of the CEO of the company she worked for, and he made it clear he did not want kids. Both of these women are sociopaths. It would never occur to them to give custody of the kids to their father. They were very selfish and heartless. Neither Diane or Susan should ever be allowed to be released. Diane is a serious threat to her parents. Its obvious in the parole interview.

Her common sense (which she has always lacked in certain situations), should've told her that bringing us around her brother was a bad idea, but again, she hasn't always been very bright in a lot of ways. She even had the nerve to bring him to a place for people with disabilities that I attended as a young adult because she wanted us to meet. Exactly. Exactly. It's patently ridiculous. What baffles me is, after days and weeks pass, with her iq, she STILL can't paint a more realistic scenario? A huge problem, I guess, is there's not a single mark on her, anywhere, other than the gunshot, so it's obvious she didn't tussle with the phantom.

I don't know, some people talk in this manner about horrors that happen to their children/siblings to distance themselves from the tragedy: Look at Burke R. he was smiling talking about his murdered sister- experts say that is his mechanism to cope with it all. Maybe this is hers? I don't know. Did the police check her hands/arms for powder burns from the gun????? You never hear of that at all. I mean, that would prove it 100% yet I have NEVER EVER heard they found powder burns on her hands/arms. I am no saying she is innocent but that would prove it. ALso years ago on our small private road by the lake where I grew up a man attacked me- which just didn't happen where I grew up NEVER, it was very safe there -- I don't want to go into it here in detail, but I was in the hospital EIGHT days and I am a total germ freak-I was freaking out because I hate hospitals. After a few days there, all of a sudden eveyrthing changed: the cops/investigators were saying there alf- I mean my head on the sidee was so battered it perforated my ear drum, blood all over the place debris in mytemple area, it was horrid I had double vision for over a week, I was so nauseuous I couldn't move my eyes at all I had to keep them straight ahead at all times, I couldn't lay down I had to sleep sitting up or else I would get SO dizzy and throw up- I couldn't understand WHY they were insinuating this. This case made me think of that incident with me because maybe there WAS a man that stopped her. I man stopped me asking about a lost kitten of which I SAW the flyers on that road so I thought it was a man that lived in one of the side roads there. When DD said that about a man approached her car, maybe she thought he needed some assistance or something. She also inferred they weren't investigaing this person that she said apporached her car or something to that affect, SAME with me, they told me after a couple of months to, in essence, leave them alone, stop asking about the investiagion and to this day 25 years later no one was charged even though I picked the man out of 66 photos in three different photos, and they were shocked I was able to do that --because he looked different in each of the three photos; (he WAS seen in that road talking to home owners who were friends of his a few weeks before I think it said), . SO that made me think about what she is saying here.

Did they look in the rapids for the gun? The way she addresses the rapids struck me as odd. She then speaks of the bridge over the McKenzie river. I’m just wondering if they stuck a super strong magnet in the rapids to look for the weapon, since those would be difficult to search otherwise.
@DDTV1983
@DDTV1983 Год назад
Great question, where would the rapids be in relation to the river though?
@sierramore4957
@sierramore4957 Год назад
Are you talking about the 7:35 segment? I had to go back and listen because I could not remember her mentioning the rapids when I first watched the video. The subtitles say rabbits. I'm not a native speaker of English but it does sound like she says rapids. I agree it is a good comment you're making. The fact that they never found the actual gun that was used bothers me. I'd like to hear from an expert how likely or common it is to not find a gun that has been thrown in the water, especially a river of the kind of the Mohawk. Some people argue that based on the efforts deployed by the police, the gun should have been found, had it been thrown there. I wonder if this is truly the case, i.e. if she just got lucky or if a gun thrown in that environment is actually very hard to find in general. Was this issue addressed during the trial?
@dianac2498
@dianac2498 Год назад
@@sierramore4957 I’m not sure if they addressed precisely where they looked at trial other than near Hayden Bridge. There is an awful lot of water to search in that area but I bet they tried hard. There were tons of bushes, woods and two rivers. It would be a huge task to locate an item the size of a gun and maybe they felt they had enough evidence without it. I’m not sure. They did a good job by being patient and letting her talk up a storm to the media while her daughter recovered. Having a witness was their best evidence. I wonder if they looked in the Mohawk River as well as the McKenzie though. I think there are more areas with rapids in the Mohawk, and she could have gotten to it rather quickly back then. They found she had opened the passenger door so she was out running around in any case. There appears to be a good deal of homes on old Mohawk road now so maybe one day someone will find it (more people in the water, more likely to be found, if it’s there). Rare earth magnets are the strongest. I don’t know how much her gun weighed but I’m sure it hasn’t gone far … if in the water. It will move like a rock or sink in the silt.
@sierramore4957
@sierramore4957 Год назад
Follow-up: based on Ann Rules's Small Sacrifices, the issue was addressed. The forensic expert conducted a test to see if a similar gun put in a styrofoam-lined zippered case would float and it did, meaning if thrown into the Old Mohawk River, as the investigators believed happened, it could have gone very far. "Possibly never to be found" - pages 368-369 (also some info page 72). Diane herself said, back when she arguably didn't feel threatened, and was cooperating with the cops, that if she was the shooter she would have buried the gun or thrown it into the water. Considering that 1) the casings were found in the "one spot...where the road came closer to the river" and 2) everyone who had knowledge of the gun, especially those who said they saw it in her trunk, said it was stored in a case, I find it extremely believable that the gun was thrown into the turmoil of the river and could not be found despite extensive efforts because it was in a case and floated away.
@dianac2498
@dianac2498 Год назад
@@sierramore4957 Thank you for sharing that. I had no idea a gun case would float but it makes sense they tested that out.
