Ted was such a good babyface. Also interesting how Bill Eadie looked physique wise here(the classic shlubby gut territory veteran body), he definitely got on some gear once he started teaming with Barry Darsow.
So The Masked Superstar wrestles the match in his gold style mask, but is unmasked in the dressing room by DiBiase who then presents a red mask to the crowd.
Yeah. Dibiase was the shit. What few people realize is that Murdoch was closer to getting the belt the him. They wanted to put it on Dick. But he wouldn't stop his craziness. The drinking and acting wild. He also had no problem telling people to kiss his ass! But one hell of a wrestler! No doubt. His shit looked real. And Ted could sell his ass off!
By the way, Mid-South was never a part of the NWA. They were their own separate promotion. Flair never came until 85 & 86 to defend the title but Mid-South was never part of the NWA.
I often wonder what would have happened if Ted DiBiase would have gone elsewhere (that is making a name for himself within that promotion), such as JCP in Carolina, the AWA, or Japan. Feuding with the Horsemen together with Dusty? Siding with the Horsemen maybe? World Champ in AWA? Feuding with Fujinami and Mutoh in Japan? NWA Heavyweight Champion of the world? How about DiBiase and Steve Williams vs the Road Warriors for the Tag title of the world (WCW/NWA Mid-Atlantic or NWA International)? Needless to say, to a large degree waisted in the WWF (where Hulk Hogan was Superman and you needed kryptonite to make the World title yours)
Man Murdoch sold that loaded glove hit by Teddy like a million bucks!!!! DiBaise was so over at that time!!! There was talk of a NWA Title feud and run vs Flair. Unfortunately Teddy went to the WWF when he got over with the million dollar man gimmick. But it was all cartoon BULLSHIT!!!
The more I watch his matches the more I realize just how great Dibiase was. He made everyone he wrestled look like a million bucks. He was at first a popular but somewhat vanilla babyface. Went to a great, hated heel and in a turn only Bill Watts could think up, became a super over babyface like never before.
The Million Dollar Man was probably one of the greatest heels in wrestling history. The character generated some serious heat. Dibiase made it work. You can think whatever you want about the then WWF, but Dibiase's character was amazing.
There were Four great Pro Wrestlers from Three topnotch 1980s Tag Teams in this. People forget about The North South Connection of Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch in The WWF and Japan.🤔🎤🇯🇵🤼♂️B.W.
