@@-HighTide matt has said in the past that metal prep isnt an issue there because they dont have rust issues. I think it was when they were prepping the inner fenders on the Banana

I think Matt was referring to deep rust that causes cancer to vehicles often seen in locations that heavily salt the roads in winter which he doesn't have to deal with. But even in desert environments, surface rust is a problem when metal gets wet (even from just the moisture in the air). So it will eventually look rusty if they don't paint it and leave the metal exposed. Granted it's a cosmetic issue, but he runs a business where appearances do mater to a certain extent.

@@timothygeiger8271 I don’t disagree with you, but the RU-vid money is a different kind of money. It starts at around 2-3$ / 1000 views and goes up from there. His content is pretty family friendly so probably higher than that. Having a constant huge check from RU-vid, while keeping his company independently profitable means he can focus on upgrading and fixing all of his stuff without worrying financially.

Past time for an update on Rudy's jeep. It appears to be the toughest of the off road recovery vehicles. I have seen it go almost everywhere the banana or the morvair has gone. Can't wait to watch the progress.

Watching Matt grind cut that door reminds me of doing floor pans on an old impala. I didn't want to remove the seat, so I threw a welding blanket over it. Got the project done, new plans in. Closed the car all up came back the next day and all the old rotted seat had smoldered away through the night. Miraculously only the seat burned away as the rest of the car was already prepped to go to paint, fortunately the owner was an upholstery guy and was doing a full restoration. Felt so bad I did the trunk pan for free for him. More miraculously he still brought me more projects. I always remove the seats these days tho.

I knew a kid when I was in high school that turned rebuilding cars into a job with a major auto manufacturer heading up the trouble shooting department for new cars coming off of the assembly line.. While in high school, an auto dealer hired him to trouble shoot electrical problems on customer's cars. I think the word for him was brilliant.

Glad to see the rubber doinker made it back onto the door in the last two seconds of the video. The Bombie needs a Trevor running board since it has no spare tire to ride rodeo. Something like a train car: a foot plate and a grab iron. Maybe on the driver’s side where the rear door would be.

Hey quick question, what's the difference between a 1 ton axle and the regular stock axle? I have a 97 xj and i have no clue about mechanic and upgrades. Just learning as I watch video's on jeeps and asking questions on comment threads

@@imAdolff 1 tons can handle bigger tires and a lot more abuse. I think stock XJs have Dana 30 front 35 rear like my TJ. General consensus is those cant handle heavy wheeling running over ~33” tires iirc. If Rudy is gonna do 40s he needs stronger axles to support that extra mass. You don’t really have to worry about upgrading axles until you start going pretty crazy with upgrades and by then you should have better knowledge about your use case and what you need/don’t need to do it.

@@thegutterpunk00the dana 30 is a decent front axle from what I hear but the dana 35 is notoriously weak. Some xj's came stock with a rear chrysler 8.25 axle like mine. The earlier years had 27 spline 8.25 which were probably a little closer in strength to the d35 but the later years had the 29 spline which is stronger. Some people got really lucky and got the dana 45 rear axle stock.

That rear axle is a 10.5 inch Sterling. The front axle is a Dana SUPER 60. You didn't fool around with axle choices, Rudy! Those better have manual locking hubs; the Electronic-Shift-on-the-Fly can be troublesome on those. Especially when you need it!

I love the upgrade to the snow cat by adding a back door that was a good idea and makes it a lot easier for everyone. Lizzy's reaction to the new door was hilarious I will say. I am definitely curious to see the new upgrades to Rudy's jeep I think that is a good idea as well. I am trying to figure out why Trevor was holding what looked like a pumpkin when everyone was in the snow cat

Quick no brainer tip. Write with a sharpie on the oil filter when you change oil, the date and mileage. If hard to access write somewhere underhood. Easily removed with rubbing alcohol. 😌 Nice Mode the snow track.

Awesome to see Rudy upgrading to tons under his Jeep. The Sterling has one slight flaw though. You should consider welding the axle tubes to the pumpkin. I’ve seen a buddy spin his pumpkin on the tubes in Moab on that same rear axle. Other than that, it’s a very stout setup. 70.5 inches with a 4.5 inch backspace rim with a 13.5 inch wide tire will bring your total width to 89 inches, which I find perfect on my setup. Looking forward to seeing the final outcome of your build!! 💪👍😎

Hey! Huge respect for what you do! Last night, I got my Grand Cherokee stuck in the Oregon Cascades, and I had to call for help! It was 12 degrees, snowy, and windy! I had a suggestion after seeing you always down in the mud or throwing water on the radiator on those days over 110 degrees. Get a 2 gallon garden sprayer. You can pump it up to clean yourself or spray down the radiator. Keep those fun videos coming. Thank You.

That snap-ring looks comparable to the snap-rings for the balljoints on the AAM 10.5 in the front of my Ram. And boy oh boy Rudy, do those things go sailing through the shop when they come out under load 😅. Lookin' forward to seeing the one ton soup you're cookin' up.

That door looks as if it should of come that way from the factory, it looks really really good.

Great idea cutting out that door. Yes...paint it so it doesn't rust out.

Paint it! Also, put he bumper for the front door back on the rear door, it will act as a bumper for BOTH doors when they open….the “latch” addendum / epilogue shows you already put the bumper back…and added a second one on the bottom.

Last year, Matt mentioned in a video "we should put a back door on this". Makes me wonder how many ideas his brain has stored on its To-Do list. --- Great video, thanks for uploading. ---

You all are really getting good at RU-vid. We all know (at least the smart ones), that you are going to paint the door. Nicely done door mod. I picked up a few tricks to doing that type of work. Now, to find a project I need to cut a door into.

That door is a great addition to the snow cat, looks almost custom. That will make it so much better for the back seaters now and s good safety feature as well. The passengers even look happy.

Great to see the sno-cat coming out of “hibernation”, as Matt said last year. But animals that become inactive during the summer months are said to “estivate” rather than hibernate. This would be a good name for the vehicle - *The Estivator*.
