Recently, the Event Horizon Telescope has taken new images that reveal a powerful jet ejected from a supermassive black hole.
And this got me thinking... is it possible to photograph a black hole from my backyard?
Even if my photo won’t be used by scientists to learn more about black holes - I know that Cygnus X-1 is in there!!
Pretty Wild. Thank you for watching!

That would be a dream come true for me, especially if I had access to the camera gear I wanted so I could document it all. I would be a drooling spaz for sure as I recorded EVERYTHING. I went up in an airplane years ago taking photos of the skydivers, and the descent downward at 194 mph, and was totally thrilled as I took a few photos and a short video. My best capture was the last skydiver just before he jumped with the blue sky and clouds reflecting off his helmet visor, and the look on his face of pure joy and anticipation. Shortly after that event, I suffered a massive pulmonary embolism that put me on blood thinners, after the blood clot to my lungs damaged them and my heart. I've been told I could never go up in a plane again because of my condition. That really sucks because I love arial photography as well as astrophotography.

I like your telescope and astronomy knowledge! Also, I’ve always been a big fan of astronomy. I understand that a black hole has gravity that is so intense nothing can escape it and I’m sure this applies to any objects being sucked into it. My question is….how can light not escape it if it is not a solid object?? Has science been able to prove this or is this just a theory? Thanks for keeping me curious about the universe!!
@kitakumar8861
@kitakumar8861 2 года назад
Science was able to prove that gravity can bend light; gravitational lensing. So when black hole can strip everything beyond atomic level, I believe light as a photon matter has no chance to the immense gravity that blackhole pulls through. If you view everything as a matter in context to atoms and molecules, would you be able to apprehend

I watched this video a second time (cloudy skies), and when I realized it was the Cygnus region, I opened up a wide field shot I took with my modified Canon 60D and a Canon 100mm f2.0 lens a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know I had photographed the Tulip nebula, and I was even able to identify which star was Cygnus X-1! Resolution at this zoom level terrible, and absolutly no hint of expanding bubble of course. But the field stretch from Eta Cygni to Deneb just outside my crop. It's the first image I was able to collect 'substantial' integration time, 5 hours and 35 minutes. Very happy with this shot. Thanks for all inspiering videos, and keep Rudy in your cast! 😄

You of all people know it’s impossible for you to take an image of a BH from your backyard. Trevor, you cannot take a photograph of the black hole with a 100mm Sky-Watcher or any other standard astrophotography rig, let's be serious. Even NASA can't do it in traditional way. The picture of the black hole they obtained was via aperture synthesis and then translating radio data into visual representation. Black holes are some of the smallest object in the universe. They have profound influence on their surroundings but sizewise they are very small. We may never be able to image them directly not even with professional telescopes.

Sometimes when i think about black holes, i feel a little frightened. There's the simulation theory, that we all just live in a simulation, that it's possible we're all just living in a 'computer' (given, one heck of a high performance computer if that were the case). Black holes just don't seem to add up to me, like if we do live in a simulation, i suspect that black holes are like the runtime trying to handle integer values that go beyond the memory allocated for it in computer programming, causing some nasty bugs or glitches. Black holes to me seem like very anamolous objects, bending space time to the point that inside of one, no matter which direction you go, the geometry is so bent that all directions lead deeper inside the black hole. As a computer programmer of C#, JavaScript, and a few other languages i see black holes as bizarre "bugs" in our universe, as though they were an oversight of the "developer" leading to some highly anamolous results.

No! Because black holes can't exist! And Betteridge's Law of Headlines also agrees with me. It took me a while to let go of black holes, as I have decades invested in them. But once I started, I couldn't stop - and I have also come to completely reject the big bang, dark matter, dark energy, expanding universe, redshift as a measure of recessional velocity, and also the gaseous sun mistake. If you've been wondering why Physics really hasn't progressed since the 1930s, it's because some very fundamental mistakes were made. And we all know it is much easier to fool people, than to convince them they've been fooled. It was hard for me, and a little painful - but I am refreshed by being able say "we don't know" to many questions we once thought we knew how to answer.
