That dude probably knows more stuff about classic American bikes than anyone. He's the Rainman of Motorcycles. I love watching "experts" talking about their loves....It can be about anything bikes, furniture etc....I once watched a 90 minute video with a barbwire collector.
Obviously Mecum doesn't employ any bike experts to authenticate potential inventory. That's called "Misrepresentation of sale". If you aren't given appropriate time to do your own due diligence with an expert, pass on the sale.
@kurtfoulke5130 I can blame the auction because I spent 22 years working at one of the world's largest auto auction companies. That sort Bait and Switch isn't good business. The company I worked for didn't allow that sort of thing to happen. If a sale was made and it was proven the vehicle sold was "Misrepresented" at the time of sale the transaction would have been voided and proceeds returned to the buyer. That's just good business. You don't allow the good name of the company to be brought down over a few thousand dollars.
@@kurtfoulke5130 Presented for sale as a "1929 Harley" with no documentation and a hodgepodge parts list of everything except 29' Harley parts, some of which were "faux" parts.
"Where else would the baby sit? You can't strap them to the sissy bar anymore, people frown on that." Matt's humor is great. Always a great video when you go to see Matt.
They can't be bothered to do that, owners submit it for auction, put a minimum price or not, sold as is without guarantee, the auction takes its %. End of story.
Your channel along with bearded mechanic and wheels through time are three of my favorite RU-vid channels. Everyone should go to Wheels through Time at least once a year. Amazing place!!! I don’t even have a motorcycle!
As a restorer, I understand how much time and money you need to devote to getting this motorcycle in order. I've worked on several vintage Harleys. The oldest motorcycle I rode was a German Victoria from 1927. Currently working on a 1913 Wanderer. Good luck!
My neighbor purchased an old 500 triumph, that used to sit in a store window here in downtown Birmingham… it was missing a lot of internal parts and he never did get it running.. he sold it about a month ago to somebody down in Louisiana who is going to try to get it to run… you “ 29” Looks like a bike you might find at Cracker Barrel…on display… I hope you do get it running…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Or sitting inside as a display in a small motorcycle shop …good luck ..👍🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
@@mobius-1503I used to be the same way. Now I have multiple bikes and have even crashed one, but I still can’t imagine my life without motorcycles. I seriously recommend that you give it a try. If you like the older stuff, something that a beginner could ride that is also affordable would be an Ironhead sportster.
@@billsheppard2433 very intresting you went from zero to multiple. I did desert way back. Have an old yamaha. Those heavy lil raptor quads from back in the day....and yea..the thrill of rippin thro those trails is something now that im recalling.
@@mobius-1503 It’s an addiction lol. I like trying out different bikes and getting different experiences. I have just found some along the way that I love.
It was great meeting both of you guys last Monday I thoroughly enjoyed talking to you ❤️ Sean I was the guy with the Pennzoil Fatboy that Matt thinks Dale painted that wants to donate it to the museum
I'm going to agree with some others and say it was likely a display piece at a business or outside some enthusiasts house. If it was just a quick attempt at auction bait I doubt they would have cared to stop it from rusting.
How is that despite not being a bike rider/enthusiast, or someone who is from your part of the world, I find your restoration vids fascinating? The skills and talent (and history) on display is so interesting to me. Keep up the good work.❤
Absolutely love the wheels through time collections!! Honestly in the antique motorcycle world probably on the far cheaper side for some knowledge at 13k. Great video!
It was a great surprise bumping into you at Wheels through Time last week. I appreciate you and Matt taking a few minutes to talk to me (I am the big guy from Iowa that was talking to you about the Road Dog). I have enjoyed your channels for quite a while.
Matt's museum wheels through time is an amazing place & he's one of the best mechanics ect there is! The historic bikes he has there and the collection he has , has got to be the best/most complete and comprehensive motorcycle collections there is! Highly suggest goin to see that place to anyone into motorcycles
I agree with everything you've said .love my 01 Superglide. My dream bike was a streetglide. Had it 12 years. I'm almost 70 yrs now,im 5'6 " it got a little heavey. Looked for a switchback. Found what i wanted with what I wanted to do to it. Tje guy i used to ride with said you cant go on long tripson that . Why cant i take trips. I put 55,000 miles on an 01 Superglide, this has a103ci. With all the negative garbage from him we no longer ride together. Get what you want and enjoy the adventure.
Every time I see a video especially yours because A you love Harleys and that you are a mechanic. I had a friend many years ago Bruce Burns from South New Jersey area. Bruce was a special guy because he was a deaf mute. He could hold his face to a car truck or motorcycle and tell you via his wife or daughter translating the words to you. Bruce could diagnose the problem tell you exactly what parts you need to buy. And then 99.99999% of the time Bruce would fix your problems for free. Him his wife Nancy and the daughter Trisha were all like family to me
If there was one person to take the bike to and especially to fix up, it is Matt. His Dad taught him a lifetime of knowledge. I do miss Dale. I am not a bike guy, but this old stuff keeps me interested...
Another cool video always enjoy the content really like when you and Matt hangout never disappointed. Have a good day and stay safe Jimmy from North Attleboro Mass.
I just want to let you know that I recently subscribed and have watched all your videos. I enjoy your content and as a new rider I have learned a lot from watching and picked up some good habits that may have saved my life. I was in an accident earlier today and came out with minor injuries thanks to some of the habits I have picked up from watching your videos. I see you put on a jacket and a helmet everytime you go out on the road and that has rubbed off on me so I started doing it as well. Also your faith in god has been a great inspiration that caused me to start praying and being thankful again more than I have been. Unfortunately my bike was totaled and it was a hit and run. A guy in a white work van ran a stop sign and I tried to avoid him but there wasn’t enough time to react. I hit his rear quarter panel at around 50mph and was thrown and rolled down the state route I was on. He never slowed down on checked to see if I was ok or even alive for that matter. The sheriff said the probably won’t be able to find him. So I ended up injured and without a bike. Gods hand must’ve been over me and kept me safe enough to limp away. Keep doing what you are doing it’s informational and inspiring to newer riders.
Dude is an encyclopedia, i love listening to knowledge and stories from guys who live and breathe whatever they're interested in, even if im not interested myself
Reminds me of the time a friend found a 1916 Indian Powerplus, literally a barn find in a little township in New Brunswick. 13,000, you couldn't lose. I would do a teardown to check engine internals. If you find enough parts that are good, I would collect enough parts to get it running. Not restore it. This is my initial thought before I finish the video. Now to continue on with the video.... :)
Looking over my original Harley-Davidson factory literature collection, I see no "29JX" marked motor mentioned anywhere -- only 29J, JL, JD, JDH, JDF and JDL marked motors. Either the number is spurious (fake) or it is indeed uncommon and rare.
I like how he keeps the hidden gems in the "Radioactive" trailer. He's like now everyone stay out of the Radioactive trailer. If I catch you in there I promise it will be detrimental to your health. Lol
I was gutted when you moved because i love the dynamics between you and craig but, now craig has a channel too it almost the best of both worlds! 2 very different but also very similar! Craigs videos are more mechanical and informative (not that i dont learn anything from you!). And your channel is more riding and biker lifestyle stuff. Both are equally awesome, entertaining and informative and, when you guys team up every now and then, thats when the real magic happens!😂 Thank you ❤
Looks like you bought a prop for a theme restaurant. Something you put on a shelf for display. There's restaurants that pay more for that prop than motorcyclists do.
Every year in a small village in the UK called kinlochleven their is a dirt bike trial even called the pre 65s, which is for old dirt bikes (mainly British) from before 1965, some of the people their do sell bikes as well.
I have a video for you to consider: order and review one of those $1k-minibikes from Ali that look like the one made (originally by Brent Walter I believe) like a Beetle fender with two wheels Cheers
There was a little bit of ASMR in the sound of that engine and revenge it up I'm talking about the very first bike that they fired in the beginning of the video at 10:20 when they fired up the engine and that engine sounded pretty damn good and the little bit of ASMR was a nice touch I m3an at keast for me cause it triggered my ASMR and gave me the tingle sensation when listening to part kf the engine especially when he revved it up it really triggered my ASMR and I am so glad that I am a perrin that is able to experience ASMR because some ppl have it and some ppl don't have ASMR. I listen to ASMR every night to fall asleep.
Isn't the Rajah jump seat for when you have a passenger? Certainly, that's what I've seen in photos with the rider forward on the jump and the passenger on the main seat.
We bought a 4 wheeler at auction, we bought a lot..,. The 4 wheeler back to our shop, we found out it didn’t have a crank rod or piston. Haha we ended up doing some research because it was a big deal. Turned out the sales manager had sold a same model, that machine had blown up a week later and the customer was a pain. The unit we bought was a repo a customer brought back and was waiting for insurance to pick up. Sales manager pulled all the parts out and it fixed the customer unit and never bothered replacing. He said “i was going to put new parts in it”. I asked him why he bolted the thing all back together? Anyway.. the dealer made things right, i dont know if the SM lost his job, the owner was pretty mad.
when I constantly see a channel using the same thumbnail claiming SCAM over and over I find the scam is the person posting those thumbnails and using god as an excuse to brag how cool you are isn't cool, but as I only clicked on as I remember I watched in the past for the other guy I found he has his own content, now that guy is a the real MVP
@@Ultra77737 How can you sell a product you don't know anything about? Does no one ask questions? Dudes good at making clickbait titles/thumbnails though, I'll give him that. He's made enough money to be able to gamble $13k on a roach like this one, & not care that much. Who am I to judge?
@BikesandBeards Nah, I saw that it was close to a break-even, and I'm glad you didn't take a big loss on it. Not here to root for anyone's downfall. But the questions are still legitimate. This seemed like a big risk to me on what is visibly a gutted, patchwork of a bike. I understand some components can be rare, but a lot of it looked damaged. It's a lot of money that could have been better spent elsewhere. That's just my opinion, though. It's not really relevant. Not to be a complete naysayer, I really enjoy the sections of the video about the bike museum. Those are cool, and informative.

Modern motorcycles are too heavy. My 125 cc scooter weighs 225 pounds. The new Honda XR150L weighs 282 pounds. That 1000 cc HD that was bounced weighs about the same. Does all of the extra weight on modern motorcycles make them last longer? I had four different engine kits for a bicycle. The wheels were too weak. The mounts for the rear rack engines were too weak. The engines or transmissions always needed work. The bicycle probably rolled for 8000 miles at a cost of $2000. I probably could have bought a motor scooter for that much money and had almost zero problems with it.
I just love your tanks especially your haps and your hawk is beyond awesome . I recently got a 7cm hawk and 4cm trout they are in a 3×2×2 grow out tank atm and growing quickly they will be transfered to the 6×2×2 in time.
I love the channel don't get me wrong here.. but even since there's no Craig and the old crew, it doesn't feel as authentic to the good days of bikes and beards. The video before this one particularly felt unnatural. Maybe I just have to get used to it
Yeah, the thing is kinda weird. I personally liked it more, idky, probably because he was in the state as me. However, I completely understand ditching this 💩 🕳️
I rode a ~1990 hardly springer, solid rear wheel and belt drive, 4 fingers on the front brake did almost nothing, touch the rear and locks up. Never again will I be seen on a Hardly, will stick to my Yam's and Honda's, real quick, nimble, lean angle galore, 190mph and reliable, couldn't want more than that, and low cost.
My guess is that it did work at one time, became unreliable after countless repairs, and then became a parts donor for the next bike, hence the oddball repairs and missing parts. That is a common theme you find, my friends.
Sometimes all you get at auctions is someone else's junk. I'm always really cautious about what I buy especially if I intend to flip it. It's way too easy to misrepresent something. If the auction house doesn't allow turning of the keys or starting I'll walk away right there. There are a few websites where you can do V.I.N. checks for crashed and stolen vehicles. I've found a few gems, mostly lemons. I've seen people bid up stuff that should have gone to a recycler because they have no idea what they are buying. That's why it was there. So many people act like a candy store at auctions...
its obvious you knew what you were buying.. with your knowledge and Mecum allowing all to inspect the for sale items one cannot believe you bought this from just sitting in the audience..
