Did Palworld "Beat" Pokemon? 

Oh btw if it wasn't already obvious, I didn't buy/play the game myself and I really don't plan to (I don't think I'd personally enjoy it). Please do NOT think of this video as an endorsement of the game, I just thought the idea of an indie doing this well and breaking records like this was interesting and I wanted to talk about it. uhhh also I'm aware this is a... heated topic, so please try to be nice to each other in the comments lol

IDK why people actually compare it to pokemon? Pokemon's gameplay is nothing like palworld. The only thing in common are the monsters looks alike.

Interesting take on the matter. Absolutely agree that there never was a "Pokémon Killer", and I even think classifying a game as such often leads to the discussion about the game actually being about Pokémon, which ends up hurting the game in the long run. Palworlds case in particular is ... interesting. The heavy inspiration has made the discussion about it connected to Pokémon by itself, which again, I don't think is good for a game in the long run. There are games out there that I have never heard a single positive thing about just because they got labled as "Pokémon Killers" Also I don't think Palworld was ever gonna be competing with Pokémon no matter how well it did. Aside from the aforementioned heavy inspiration and the fact that you can capture monsters in them, they are nothing alike. I don't think Pokémon is purely a childrens game, but I am certain that parents would prefer buying a Pokémon game for their children than a game that lets you enslave and slaughter other human beings. Went a little off the rails, but these are my simplified thoughts on the matter, disregarding everything else about the company behind Palworld.

Great take, mhswoocer. I'm glad you addressed the issue with calling any game an "x killer", while also bringing up Cassette Beasts without putting any other games down. Cassette Beasts was my personal GOTY, and may in fact be my favourite game of all time.

You can surpass the games, but pokemon is much more than the games, its very unlikely someone will be able to kill Pokemon at its core

I feel similarly. Pokemon doesn't need to be killed for better games in that already existing sub genre to exist and shine. I got burned by Sword and Shield and realized, ''yea, this series really isn't for me anymore'', but funnily enough, it lead me to channels that actually highlighted that in fact, monster taming as a genre exists and there are many innovative games out there that pretty much eclipse the experiences that Nintendo has been putting out. The X game killer debate never felt useful to me as it fundamentally undermines great games because they can't offset a huge install base. The issue is that, there're a lot of people just not really inside the gaming community that are seeing these other ''better'' games - which is fine. There are people that'll play WoW, Pokemon or X sports franchise regardless of their quality and that's just not something that'll ever be offset by another game's better quality. I'm just glad that Pal World could be a jumping off point for many to realize that yea, the genre itself is fertile and has a lot to offer. You don't need to look to Nintendo for that fix - spend your money elsewhere and have fun with other games. PS: It's also totally fine if you're still having fun with Pokemon. We don't need to be dogmatic like these are sports teams. I'm just glad people are seeing that Pokemon doesn't actually have a strangle hold on the genre. Year's just kicked off, trust me, there's a lot to look forward to in the space.

The pokemon market has been open for decades now, pokemon has absolutely sucked the last 10 to 20 years. Im glad this happened.

Look I'm just gonna say it: if you say palworld infringed on Pokemon you are simply a paid actor hired by Disney to push pro-copyright extending propaganda. Prior to 1976 the length of copyright was 28 years, as opposed to the Disney-driven current rule of life of the author + 70 years, or 95 years after publication. If you guys were true free market believers like me, you'd think they should've copied Pokemon MORE. They should've put Pikachu directly into the game holding an ak-47 as an armed guard watching the pals make mediocre guns on too tight of timelines while all of the gun nuts wonder why their guns suck.

Palworld's monster design is the most professional gen-1 ass shit I've ever seen, and I mean that in the best way possible. It genuinely feels like they plucked an artist who's been designing official Pokemon for the franchise's entirety from one timeline over.

I feel like the "X game killer" is very reductive. Not every single platform fighter has to be the "Smash killer" to be worthwhile, nor is that even necessary what the games are trying to do. Same with every monster catching game being forced with the "Pokemon killer" name regardless of what the designers actually meant. If media was only ever allowed to be inspired by things if they meant to kill the original thing, well, that would frankly just suck. That being said, I LOVE having multiple games in a genre being able to push the genre as a whole to evolve (pun not intended)/provide alternative ways of appreciating similar concepts. I adored Cassette Beasts, and from the little I've played of Palworld, it feels like pure undistilled fun, and both are great for totally different reasons that don't somehow invalidate the other.

Someone finally said what I've been saying to all my friends about palword when they keep saying its gonna be the "pokemon killer" both games are completely different, comparing the two is like comparing Need For Speed and Mario Kart

It scares me how many people are ok with plagiarism just because they dislike the company it's being ripped off from, even though the work of individual artists is the one thing being completely disrespected, especially when it's gamers that actually respect the medium, who are always complaining about predatory strategies in gaming. No. People will continue to buy pokemon. This game appeals to people who don't like pokemon at all. And part of that 4million is "gamepass".

I really think this is a game you should've played before you made this video, i'm no pokemon fan myself and I refuse to support GF in any way. That said I'm not just going to gush over a competitor game just to stick it out to GF if that game isn't actually up to par itself, and in palworlds case, I'm actually concerned because that game not only doesn't even play like pokemon, it actually comes with it's own set of game breaking issues that need to be addressed ASAP. It's like people are just riding the hype train and are so desperate for a product like pokemon that they are willing to jump on board a similarly mediocre product. I genuinely hope that one of the 2 scenarios below happens: -Palworld actually fixes it's issues and live up to it's full potential -It at least gives GF the incentive to actually try with pokemon. But I can say that as of fight now, at least in it's current state, palworld ain't definitely it.

It doesn't need to beat Pokemon, it just needs to rudely wake up to Nintendo.

I find funny nobody is talking how this game is more similar to Monster Hunter Rise in gameplay and concept (which shows this game was way underground), yes, designs are similar to Pokémon to gather that lost Pokémon fans (Cassette Beasts also designed their monsters similar to Pokémon, Nexomon, Tem Tem, etc., gosh Tem Tem is more similar to Palworld) but gameplay is nothing like Pokémon, monsters are AI controlled.

If it was just plagiarizing pokemon I wouldn't give a fuck. The problem is its CEO is big on AI and it was clearly used on the development on the game, and I find that disgusting.

Pokemon died on the 3ds as soon as they hit the switch greed got them twice the price for half the pokemon and less moves and terrible graphics even now thats still stopped me from buying the modern games i just can't bring myself to screw myself over by wasting my money on somthing so crappy.

stealing is based and palworld is awesome. Anyone saying that it is plagiarism is just a nintendo incel defender.
