This was so informative I don't want to complain, but I want to point out that "boxing" someone's ears means to hit that person quite hard on the sides of the head. It can cause deafness and more serious injury, so is not something a person would do to himself. Of course it doesn't mean that the story there was true, just that ear boxing does have a specific meaning and implies assault of another person.

Yes, I was going to say that. The Trinitarians seem to retrospectively make Nicholas more violent over time.

I would love it if a film company produce a miniseries on the events of the Early Church period and we could watch a dramatized depiction of the lives and political events surrounding these pivotal church figures… Paul of Samosata, Arius of Alexandria, Athanasius, Eusebius of Nicomedia, Aetius of Antioch, etc… I think it’d go a long way to opening the eyes of the modern Christian world to just how interesting this period is…

Arius made fun of St. Nick's wife being bald.

Thanks! I think Hank and I will do an episode (or more) on him. We will probably be focusing on Basil the Great first, but Ephraim should make sense sometime in 2024. Are there not already translations into english?

As a biblical Unitarian who has found comedy in those memes, I guess I never looked at it the way you do Sam. I myself have been called a heretic, my picture posted on social media naming me “a child of Satan, and Antichrist worthy of eternal damnation.” Yet, I laughed at the memes. Not because I think it’s ok to ever harm someone who disagrees with you. But simply because it’s so ridiculous that people get so angry about being disagrees with, that they really do want to slap you “the heretic” sometimes. And for me, probably as a coping mechanism, I’ve learned to just smile and let it roll off my back. I guess I have a strange sense of humor and humor is usually how I cope. Thanks for sharing this and sharing a different perspective.

I appreciate the perspective Khrista. Maybe I am taking the joke too seriously.
