Watching Ripley actually setting the destruct sequence she does a lot of physical manual input. Makes me think that it’s designed so that mother can’t set it or intervene.

Which makes you wonder if a ship's computer "accidentally" blew up a ship or two prior to the events of Alien. So it was decided that the act of setting the self-destruct was taken out of the ship's hands.

Well, the scuttling process means intentionally putting the reactor into a faulty state, so you better be damn sure you want the ship to blow up rather that there's a cooling failure.

The flight recorder that was recovered was on board the lifeboat Ridley was on, not ejected from the Nostromo itself.

I'm pretty sure that in Alan Dean Foster's novelisation, the three destructive explosions are attributed to the engines first, followed by the Nostromo then the refinery, implying the whole show was blown to smithereens. Correct me if I'm wrong... I haven't read it in a long time ⌚

3 stage weapon a uranium fission explosion to create a plutonium/hydrogen fusion explosion to a deryllium/cobalt 2nd stage fusion explosion. Russia has these warheads on the SS20 SATAN MISSILES AT 30 MEGATON today.

I always thought it would be great to discover the Refinery had survived the blast and somehow had an egg on board. A really cool film could be made of a drifting space pirate finding the refinery, boarding it and a whole survival adventure starts.

Good video. They're grasping at air though here. Ship was incinerated in front of your face in the movie. Flight recorder was just set to eject beforehand.

I don't think that it survived from those explosions, but i think that there was left with a lot of debris and parts of Nostromo in the planets orbit.

In alien 3 the Sulaco Ripley and the others were ejected by mother. The AI wouldn't know if that was the species they wanted it's just a foreign life form to the computer and either wouldn't care or eject it like the Sulaco.

What if ash during the events of ALIEN created a program to somewhat stunt the self destruct system of the NOSTROMO to protect the XENOMORPH onboard in the event that the self destruct was ever activated leaving small parts of the NOSTROMO still drifting in space while possibly harboring some xenomorphic material!

For the visual starting at 3:46, the Narcissus should be going backwards or still or moving forward a bit because of the momentum and the Nostromo should be going forward because the Narcissus did not rocket away from the Nostromo, it was dropped. So, the reactor core would have been dropped as well within the few seconds.

Has anyone considered the possibility of temporal displacement? The Nostromo was equipped with FTL after all, and that detonation looked more than nuclear to me…

Could MOTHER possibly have dumped the reactor fuel which might have caused the blast then moved the ship in such a way to use the refinery as a shield?

If you watch the film closely there are two explosions. First the Nostromo's engines overheat and detonate. Then the refinery blew. The destruction of the Nostromo was so complete that WY's initial attempt to salvage the flight recorder met with complete failure. It ended up getting picked up by the Anisidora 15 years later drifting through space. One heck of a rumor. But if true WY was way ahead of the game. Too ahead however to spend 57 years looking for where the Nostromo set down. Nice theory but nearly ALL the evidence suggests otherwise.

even if mother couldnt eject the core the ship was towing the refinery so she may possibly have detached from that & that could have survived ,,, or at stretch that could have exploded & not the nostromo

I may be mistaken but I remember the scene where Ripley finds and incinerates Dallas and Brett being in the refinery.

Those 2 Rolls Royce engines has almost 600 kilograms of plutonium each. Roughly a 790 Gigaton atomic bomb each energy. So I doubt anything survived. Not a thing.

Even if 2 protect itself n' d Company starship AI could have activated d detachment of reactor, d maxive blast from it would cause severe damages. U know everything is poxible but it's very unlikely. Something more we could know investigating what Anisedora had be able 2 recording about Nostromo incident, tho ...

Found out you made a few mistakes. The Nostromo was not a mineral ship it was a Refinery it was refining oil for Earth. That is in the first Handbook of alien if you can get ahold of one you will find that out to be true. Second thing the explosion that took the ship out you had five minutes before The Final Countdown to stop it Ripley wasn't in time and it

Really stupid theory based on pretty much nothing and even had to invent things to make it possible (such as a ejection of the reactor core) also fairly certain Muthur cant actually detect if the xenomorph is even on board. If she could surely the crew would have used that to their advantage instead of creating a motion tracker in order to find the creature.

I guess a top class vessel with its advanced AI, could find an ET life form wherever it hides due 2 a large net of sensors all over d starship but d Nostromo AI likely turned that system off cuz WY special order 937 dictated d preservation of xenomorph whatever it takes.
