I managed to join while you played these games in the video, I will say that in it's current state the game is pretty much what I expected. There's some jank, but you can still pop off and get great scores. Played for 5+ hours today and had a blast!
So a delay of a week or two could have prevented this mess? Why do they do this to themselves? There's now people who're permanently convinced it's forever completely broken.
Is the game forever broken? Depends on if the higher ups will let them keep working on it. Is my trust that they give one shit about this series broken? Yeah, completely. I’ll just go mod the other PC port and enjoy my nostalgia without a company that hates their customers trying to ruin my experience.
Considering the number of fixes and the size of this patch, it’s obvious they were already working on this even before the release. This arguably makes it even worse as they knew they would be releasing it in such a broken state
Could be, but looking at what kind of fixes they are, code wise could be done by 1 person in an afternoon. So could have been the last 3 days too. I mean shit like "unhid" axis options, which is like 1 line of code or change a 0 to 1.
@@grimtrazzd6043 and knocking them off the map was the only way to get rid of them with their immortality lol. Glad to see me and my brother weren't the only ones who figured this out.
Much better for me. I'm not really interested in multiplayer, so restored campaign cutscenes, sound effects and general audio fixes were my main things.
@@TaskForce-ql3bx I'll say this now, it happened a lot on the original release for the Steam version. I had my ears blown out by Proton Torps and bombs in Space Battles and even had my ears blown out by an Imperial death scream on the original. At this ooint I see it as a quirk of the game and always laugh about it.
Even if they fix every problem in the game, it was an inexcusable launch and and Aspyr destroyed their reputation and lost trust with a large portion of the community by lying to them and releasing an unfinished product for nearly $40. The game lost a ton of players from the launch issues, there is no cross-region play, and there is no cross-play. I cannot imagine the online community of this game lasting more then a couple months, considering how low the player count already is.
This is why First Impressions matter. People love Helldivers 2 and Palworld for this reasoning. Those games had some bugs on launch. Put they worked. They actually functioned on launch. And have kept there players hase going still BECAUSE of the there launches. Again first Impressions MATTER
I think without cross-play it was doomed to die fast anyway. The original B2 barely hit 300 daily players on average, and even less for B1. I figured most people would get their nostalgia fix, and then abandon it shortly after.
I’m convinced many publishers and developers don’t bother with beta testing prelease anymore. They just leave it up to the early adopters to report all the bugs and then maybe fix them. At least this patch came quickly.
I feel that it has gotten a bit more sloppy, but especially with the server problems, that is something that a small QA team often just cant properly test.
I agree. Look at Helldivers, Look at Baldurs Gate, look at Elden Ring. Ofc these games still got bugs glitches and exploits, but the games are made, so that the consumer didn't basically function as a beta tester. And aslong as these games keep dominating the market and content and the rushed games keep getting refunded, I believe it will get better
Uncompressed 4k textures are really big and take up big chunks of space, especially if they upscaled literally every texture (even small ones like the guns or lightsaber hilts that easily could've stayed 512x512 or 1024x1024.
Also just checked the Classic Collection files on my laptop and it says some of the cutscene files under the movies folder are anywhere from 36MB to 1.3gb. With many of them being from 126MB to 461MB
The fact that the Halo MCC is now taking LESS space in the hard drive than this… is extremely sad. 6 campaigns and all the multiplayer and forge and theater is somehow LESS than two 20 year old games… let that sink in
It seemingly took them like a week to fix all this stuff. They would have avoided so much flack and bad press with just an extra week worth of effort for launch. Crazy lol.
I think a mayority of these issues weren't seen during testing. When 10.000 Players play a game a 1:1000 bug that happens every minute will happen 10 times per minute. but with 100 tester only once every 10 mins. And I dont think they knew the servers would have issues. It's always easier to fix something that has 10000 testers than 100. Most issues in games can be fixed within 1-2 weeks, if given enough concentration/manpower. It is just that things like the fucked up servers cant come to light with a small team of QA, compared to hunders or thousands of players
@@philipkoch7570 I figured that’s part of it but some of these issues were super obvious that even bare minimum testing should catch. The wrong loading screen sound, scopes being 4:3…
@@dren8346 honestly once you programm some stuff by yourself you realise how weird this stuff can be. F.e. when I was playing around making my own game, sometimes audio, even tho the audio files were completely correct just sounded cursed or wrong. It played everything it should, but due to some layering the audio was cutting together with other audio and was wrong. I get it feels lazy, but the audio sounded quite close and I can see how a stressed QA team testing the game before launch could think, eh mabey I'm hearing things wrong. However I must still say the game does feel way to buggy to be a full release. I feel this was still somewhat a cashgrab still. The 70GB kind off show me, that the game was poorly optimised. Back in the day, because consoles and PCs had slower Specs and less storage games had to have compact code. But you only get compact, If the code is very well written and properly tested. I feel this is why back in the day games the felt unfinished upon release were less common. I bet the OG BFs could've been 70GB, but that would've meant thst noone could've actually played the game, so they had to downsize the code and in downsizing had to automatically fix code. Things like in Diablo 4 where not only the player, but all their data including their storage chest are loaded could've never happened in the past, because the code to load that instead of just loading a character and the moves they have, loading all of that not only requires way better specs, but whatever Spagetti code that loads that stuff is probably 4-5 times larger, than it would've been, by just loading the char.
Thank goodness they fixed the 501st journals. Pretty much the whole reason I got back into Star Wars 20 years ago, and I was really sad to hear how bugged they were.
Thank goodness they are being open about it. This feels more like one of those situations where corporate big wigs pushed a game out too early. The fact that they actually fixed the BF1 loading screen audio and the cutscenes makes me feel like this team really cares.
The way that they handled KotOR 2's port for Mac/Linux back in the day and when they said they wanted to add TSLRCM into the switch Port, you can tell the developers are passionate fans. Maybe not the most masterful, but passionate and given a little more time and resources I do think they could make good ports and even good games. Unfortunately they won't get more resources, especially not after another rushed launch. Self-fulfilling prophecy
Yup. I wish more people realised few Devs hate their jobs the way some people think they do. In this case aspyr is owned by embracer and the IP is owned by Disney both of whom could have caught some of these issues and/or pushed for more time. I really doubt aspyr wanted to launch the game in this state.
Yep they could have easily saved their reputation if they did an early access bug reporting type thing. Now no one is going to play this long term and for good reason.
@@dren8346 I personally feel this is a bad take. Anyone who loves bf2 will absolutely play this if it’s in a *functional* state. I would even say that over half of the people that pre-ordered are likely still going to keep tabs on it: refund or no.
One thing I'll contribute here: I think we should be nuanced about who's at fault for the state of this launch. Yes, Aspyr were the developers, but they were clearly working to resolve the issues with the collection before it released. DO NOT FORGET that this collection was overseen by Embracer Group, known to be an absymal company in modern gaming for blatantly prioritizing shareholders. I completely believe that Aspyr was given a launch deadline that was unfeasible and told to work with it. Aspyr is not perfect, but the horrific launch smells like an Embracer order to me...
the thing about the cantina music is that it isn't treated as a music, it's treated as a sound effect. it was made like that to make it so u can only hear it when u get close to the cantina, so the closer u are to it the lourder it is, meanwhile actual music is always playing on the bg at the same volume regardless of where u are. so if u wanted to lower or mute the cantina music u'd need to change the sfx volume, not music. "but then how tf was that music playing on all maps all the time?" well beats me how they managed to do that colossal glitch
They aren't talking about that. They are referring to the Hero Assault "Party Mode" which in the original BF2 worked differently than the other modes in that it would play the various Cantina pieces and the Yub Nub song on continuous loop rather than other pieces of music. It would just go on forever. It was only a Hero Assault Mode feature and apparently you can't disable that. They aren't talking about the actual Cantina on Mos Eisley and how that would play the music as I guess a sound effect (which is why it was emphasized as a Hero Assault Mode glitch and not a hero assault mode on Mos Eisley Glitch).
That's the sort of bug that tells me what the first mp map (possibly the first testing map in general) made was: mos eisley. Because a mos eisley artifact was left in every map. Like how Fallout 4 was build on the bones of skyrim and still has dragon code in it.
@@MasterSonicKnight yeah. But on the base release for PC and PS it was limited to only mos eisley. Everyone was a hero character and they were given standard health bars. Xbox got expanded hero assault with DLC and PC modded it in with more maps. Also by party mode I mean it isn't a standard game but that it had special rules being that everyone was a hero. Also it had different music from the rest of the game (yub nub and the cantina music)
@@scottb3034 oh i know that as hero assault instead of party mode and i haven't played it in many years, so i prob just don't remember how it affected the music
@@Sebastianthebluebird101console has a week or 2 delay because Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft requires game patches to be approved by the company before they will allow them to be made available for a game (and was mentioned in this video). Basically that means Aspyr sent the patch to Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, they then review the patch and if they approve it will be made available for consoles to download. It typically takes a few weeks....so expect it by April latest.
@@Tabby3456I highly doubt it. They aren't in the business of efficiency (no one is). Call of Duty having a 200 gb game and doing nothing to compress it doomed any chance of devs actually bothering to do it.
@@Tabby3456 yes my friend. if they will optimizes datas this can easily 40gb. even than its too much but look at some repacks over the internet. sometimes 30 gb smaller and i talk about the unzipped files. (different games)
I would say its a good first step. Hopefully this is a stepping stone going forward of fixing what remains. I wouldn't say the classic collection is done for yet but maybe give them a chance to fix these issues and see what happens.
For me. I don't feel like giving it another try until May the 4th. 1) because this game is still in need of patches 2) to see which way the drama goes 3) to see if it gets discounted to $30 or less on May 4th. Mostly for fixes.
@@beardalaxy ya I agree, it shouldn’t be that hard to add & it’s the only feature I know of from the original versions missing, they added XL from PC & DLC from X box but not 4 player split screen from X box
Too bad it’s being broken on launch guarantees we will never see what it could have been population wise for multiplayer. It tanked its popularity instantly.
The thing is even if the bugs are fixed im not entirely sure what this release is offering over the original versions that you can still buy. Slightly upscaled textured and multiplayer which is on par with the originals isnt quite enough to justify its existence imo
For PC imo it's mostly things like native controller support and not needing to use mods for some things. Really going to vary depending on people's situation and how much they like modding. With Consoles these games either weren't available on modern systems or weren't available with MP still so it's a bit more straight forward.
They still have more features to go. I still want to see the Enemy AI team select a hero like in Xbox and PSP. I also want to see sensitivity changes too.
@user-wu4dq7il4w Nope. I was hoping they would whenever I have heroes on. Just like on the OG game for Xbox. Ironically even on the Xbox version to classic collection, they don't.
Yep, same. I want enemy AI heroes and I want the difficulty for Endor Hunt restored to the OG Xbox version. Without those fixes, there is literally no reason to play this over the modded originals.
Glad to hear they’re actually fixing this mess. I’ll wait a bit longer before I consider purchasing it, but I am relieved to hear it’s not been left for dead.
I still don't get how a game like this gets rushed, it's a rerelease there's not really the pressure to hit any new console or competitor windows. While sure there's a gap in the market for a battlefront game there's no reason this was the "ideal" window to do so. Also hope they address the file size and some of the poor upscaling, that Bespin platforms skybox is abysmal. Honestly 1k or 2k would've been enough of an upgrade because the original textures are so low detail that 4k only makes it barely sharper and really just makes the artifacting more noticeable
@@VITAS874 this wasn't EA. I think someone higher up in Aspyr decided to rush out an older build of the collection since they had a deadline to meet, thus we got the broken version of the Collection which was missing a lot of features.
especially since we know that Aspyr is extremely open to working with modders, someone with a big say had to have used that mod shown on the trailer on purpose@@sylansylan4189
Because manglement sees the popularity of Good BF2 and thinks "money printer goes brrr" and then they don't hear any brrring happening so they crack the whip and force the game to be released going "brrrr clunk brrr clunk" because they want money printer to go brrrr _now._
“Goldfish brain” maybe people are going back to the game because there is an opportunity for fun to be had. What are fans just gonna boycott the game? “We will never ever play this game again because for the first few weeks the game wasn’t playable and was a disaster” like yes it was entirely a disaster at launch but this patch might be or might not be a good sign of things to come, also maybe they’re people who simply want to have fun? Don’t make fun of people who want to have fun, and besides wtf would boycotting the game do? “Oh these devs and these big companies will learn their lesson when I stopped playing a game I already bought” what do you expect? An apology? Good luck my friend, because even if everyone refunded the game, the big companies will simply move onto making or remaking or remastering another game, it’s one rerelease so I doubt the big companies in 2024 are sweating over the public reception of the rerelease of battlefront 2004 and 2005
Lmao I love your comment, here let me add to it. Your thought process: “Hey that game that I called low effort and bad, let’s buy it immediately!” The original modder who they got it off of didn’t give a toss that they borrowed his mod for the rerelease
I love the irony that this patch is going through lots of verification before release on the consoles... but the game got released broken in the first place all the same. Great verification process, clearly!
I think they mean verification from the console manufacturers who have to approve all digital content releases to ensure they aren't malicious and comply with requirements.
@@austinnapier8233 No need to apologise, we are all wrong from time to time. A certification process implies they want to only allow quality products onto their service. However, a game that is broken got into the store in the first place. The irony lies between the two things. Happy to break it down further if you need more help.
Honestly it was crazy how much people were already shitting on it. I saw that it released in cyberpunk 2077 form and just said “give a few days for them to patch it” and like meanwhile everyone is already giving it their final reviews.
Cyberpunk was a very hyped up, new gen game trying to do more than they could with “every npc lives it’s own life”….this is a 36$, re-released, 20 year old game many times worse than the originals. Just a smidge of a difference lol
Wow imagine if they just delayed the game a week or two and told them it was because they needed last minute repairs patches, what a different story we would have
Imagine being a developer on this project. There is no way any of the people actually working on it would've released it like that. Smells like Excel Sheet/CEO decision.
I'm happy with the update as well. I was one who liked it before the patch. It relieves me that now that they put their work into it and gave us what we wanted. There is a light of hope for this game now. If it continues too update like this. Then things will get better for this collection. Another update is confirmed. That means they are still working on it. If that's the case. Maybe the refunds will stop and the reception will get better. Maybe even people who already have refunded the game will buy it again. Only time will tell.
Good news, I was waiting for the campaign cutscenes to be complete since that was my major issue, hope they release the patch on Xbox asap since there is where I am playing
Man, if rebalancing heroes is on the table; 1. Fix the infinite Stamina Force Choke Glitch 2. Make Maul and Aayla’s Lightsaber attacks not instantly knockdown enemies. Knockdowns should only occur on a successful 3rd hit of the swing attack combo. 3. Make Dooku, Anakin, Palpatine, and Vader’s Force Choke not ignore a Lightsaber Block. 4. Make it so Dooku and Palpatine can’t Force Choke someone then switch to Force Lightning to get a free kill. 5. Buff Force Lightning’s Damage 6. Make the Ai Dooku and Palpatine move while using Force Lightning. 7. Make Mace Windu’s and Palpatine’s midair slam attacks have the same knockback effect as Kit Fisto’s slam. 8. Make Force Push do some damage (not a whole lot, just enough to finish off some infantry that are below like 25%-10% hp) 9. Make Mace Windu’s Sprint Attack, and Obi-Wan’s, Anakin’s, Dooku’s, and Palpatine’s normal attacks faster or have wider hitboxes. 10. Add Padmé, and use the Queen of Naboo skin from the 501st Campaign Naboo mission. Maybe give her the Bothan Spy’s cloaking ability, along with her Detonators and her Pistol that fires green Beam Rifle bolts. 11. Make the Bothan Spy’s Incinerator weapon have the same visual effects as Boba and Jango’s Flame Thrower. 12. Make Anakin available on the Hero side, and make Hooded Anakin from the 501st Campaign Coruscant mission, the one on the Villains side. And for Hero Anakin, either give him a Force Pull or Push, or just rename his Force Choke ability to Force Crush (and if they do that, then give Mace Windu the same Force Crush ability!)
The bothan spy's use disintergtators, not incinerators, disintegration makes you cease to exist, that's why if they kill you your body dissappears, but really, the bothan AI is really weak, always has been, they should get to cheat and stay invisible for a lot longer to make up for it
@@BX-MVTRIX I think the best way to go about it is to have the Detpack have a 0.5-1.5 second delay, between triggering it, and when it detonates. As for the Sniper’s recon drone orbital strike, all that’s needed is a Map marker of where the bombardment is incoming, plus maybe also an equal delay between triggering it and when the blasts come down.
You'd think these companies would do a server tech test as a private beta to gauge issues and server problems. Then again if they were to do that people would get to see what the game will be like on launch giving a easier chance to cancel pre-orders on platforms like Nintendo known for their anti-refund policies.
I'm happy to see all these fixes and changes since I was proper depressed about the launch, but was hesitant to refund. Just one tiny question, am I the only one who can't roll in BF1? I know I used to in the original, but I can't even seem to find the setting for it, in the Collection
I'm so glad they fixed a ton of stuff in this patch! I wasn't expecting them to bother, and it does suck that it launched so broken, but it's exciting to see Battlefront Classic Collection getting active development and updates!
If this was the game that released last week, I think a lot of people would have been giving them the benefit of the doubt for the remaining bugs. The problem is its not the game they released, it's another example of a company just doing a smash and grab broken game they'll try to patch into just enough mediocrity to stop the deluge of refunds. I can't for the life of me figure out WHY though. They didn't even announce this until like a month ago. They clearly could get it to THIS state with an extra couple of weeks. Why announce and launch a game in 3 weeks when 5 gets you to an at least PLAYABLE version? Instead they burned their own game and the community for what could have been a slamdunk nostalgia sale
The problem is that its way too late. Cause the playerbase is dropped abysmal and the refunds have flooded in so EA sees this as a sign that battlefront is doomed
I tried refunding the game after seeing the state it’s in, but playstation networks agents kept talking about how they would update the game in the future. This still doesn’t change the fact they released it like it is and it’s just a pain that I can’t get a refund for this game.
@@DOOMED166 When I refunded the game in Xbox I got confirmation and exception for my refund literally just a minute after requesting the refund. To refund on Xbox you have to have less then 2 hours of playtime and have owned the game for less than 2 weeks. Over 2 weeks than you are less likely for a refund.
I just want to know how did they manage to create so many bugs that were not present in the previous versions. I hope they restore 4 player splitsceen and crossplay, maybe even steam workshop support
HOW??? A 15 GB Update????? The update itself is bigger than the og games combined? I always thought a battlefront port would be a dream come true, but it‘s a disaster. Welp, booting up me ol ps2 then…
Honestly, as much as they could have delayed the game a bit, im glad I didn't refund the game... I kinda felt like a should have, but hearing about these simple changes has me feeling better about holding on a little longer before saying I regret buying the game.
I just can't wait for the modding community to make their mods work for the classic collection once all the bugs are fixed. With it now running at 64bit I hope that the maximum modded maps are now increased from 500 maps so that I can install ultimate galactic conquest and not have to swap mod files between galactic civil war and clone wars
Why can't I just double click a spawn point to select it? It may not seem like much but having to click Enter in the bottom right corner every time was so tedious. Especially as you can double click a class to spawn in as.
On the console the loading screen had normal sounds and 5 days ago they updated it and now the sound is missing and now I cant find players my day 1 experience was way better I did notice less lag in 1 game after the patch
You should use Vsync either in game or through your graphics card control panel. Your gpu is rendering 800 extra frames for no reason, when your monitor only displays up to 300 at most. Some old games can actually burn the graphics card out and brick it if you do that for long enough. Mine sounded like a mouse being run over before I capped my fps,
Nintendo Switch still hasn't updated it, despite less bugs initially, the ending cutscenes of the SinglePlayer Campaign are still missing on it. I reported it to Aspyr right now, I hope it's fixed.
This mess really sucks, not for how broken the games were on release, but because they squandered the one chance we had for a healthy playerbase, even a temporary one. Now that the hype has been replaced with anger, refunds, and dozens of news articles/RU-vid videos, there's next to no chance of that happening, no matter how many patches they release.
My thoughts exactly…I thought we were gonna have old heads and newbies alike; at least for a time. Every server is pretty much 1-2 maybe 3-4 people. Legit couldn’t have died faster if you *tried*
They must’ve been working on this for some time. It’s almost like people don’t realize that devs have deadlines to meet and the game releasing broken isn’t there fault it’s the higher ups who dictate when it comes out ready or not.
Good to see they fixed a lot of this stuff, but I still don't understand why they did any of this to begin with...we already had these games and they could've put their focus on a new battlefront game. In the LEAST they could've just re-released the same game with the online function like what the modders did and polished that. But they didn't. They done did fcked it up all over again. Why...
They could've contracted some modders to help serve as a minor advisory role for when the ask questions and the launch would've gone so much better. No one understands the game better besides maybe some of the dissolved Pandemic studio developers that originally made it if they still remember their old work.
If companies want to do this “release now, fix later” bullshit, why don’t they just release the game as a “pre-release” two weeks before the actual launch. That would solve all of this. I’d have no problem playing a broken “pre-release” version of a game and reporting bugs to the developer if it meant the actual release would be good.
Aspyre should just put the game on sale once these patches are out so people can confidential purchase it to try it. Then when the player base is built up. Go back to the $35 price.
I'm not surprised they didnt mention they were working on an update until it was dropping. It doesnt look good to admit you released an unfinished game and already had people working on fixes seemingly before it even came out 😂
me and my friend were playing the collection a few hours ago only thing i noticed (so far) is that on BF2 when we tried to load a game and then change settings while in game it would crash when we were on BF1 every now and then we would have a very very loud crackling and random noises.
The fixes/patch costs 15gb's? Yeah honestly at that point, plus overpriced for older game. Get the original classic version on PC/Xbox: its Cheaper, only about 8gb's for each game, and works near perfectly.
Great video as always Elliot. Been loving your constant coverage of the game’s release. It’s RU-vidrs like you who I’ll always look for before spending my money on an unfinished product. I’m happy the game is getting fixed though.
The audio ques and channels being reversed was very disorienting and confusing. That was a big issue for me. Glad it's fixed, although it shouldn't have been messed up in the first place.
I know you're on PC but can't believe you never mentioned the terrible aim sensitivity on consoles even at the maximum 10 sensitivity, it's extremely slow.
I wish they would fix the order 66 Achievement. Tried to do it for an hour it never popped. Darth Vader fell off those platforms ALOT today. But no achievement
Im glad they've fixed a bunch of the problems, many i found and recorded on ps5, but the one big issue i still have and seemingly hasnt been addressed is the fact that the ai/bots in single player dont use heroes in bf2. Not in instant action, not even when they use the leader bonus in galactic conquest. Unless you play hero assault, then you will not find an enemy hero, or at least that happens in my copy on ps5 that ive put 12 hours into trying to enjoy but also trying to find problems to document. If this one isnt fixed im gonna still be kind of annoyed
