It's much easier to sell og Battlefront 1 and 2 with minor adjustments than to develop Battlefront 3 from ground up. This re-release doesn't mean anything on its own for the future of modern Battlefront iteration other than maybe serve as an estimation of gamer interest in this franchise.
or there's just no reason to release one right now. Each Battlefront has released alongside a major film. Maybe Battlefront III is coming in 2026 when Mandalorian and Grogu or the Rey film releases

@@EveryDayCivilianBlog The files for OG Battlefront 3 exist in the PSP game Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron, as that was the handheld port of Battlefront 3. Lucasfilms likely had the rights to use those assets, but whether they survived all these years is unknown.

This is definitely a testing bed to see how well the community responds to Battlefront. They want to revamp the gameplay loop, and when they see the servers populated on every platform, they will start drop-feeding teasers.
I'd prefer it not be dice, however the newer battlefront isn't so terrible it isn't fun to play now at least. I wouldn't mind instead of bf3 that they just come back and give actual love and care to the latest battlefront 2
@@drag0nchampi0n I mean, I grew up with OG battlefronts on Xbox, and tbh with you I get more enjoyment out of the new bf2 simply bc I think it's more fun and engaging to play, my perfect game would be new bf2 without having to lvl up a certain/class or hero to get the cards, just start with all of them. And conquest, a campaign like from og bf2, add space battles to capital supremacy, change the way vehicles work, make galactic assault bigger and with air/space battles.
@@wolfeyq7536things I despise in dice bf2 1. Hero’s vs infantry is super over powered. In a 20v20 environment where a hero can literally kill 10-12 shooting at them is beyond ridiculous. 2. Specialist units - the regular units you spawned with were so terrible everyone just did their best to get one, as in big modes getting multiple kills was impossible. 3. The overheating mechanic - sorry but this is just stupid and annoying and I preferred just having ammo like OG battlefront. 4. RNG shooting. The bullets had spread which is why the OG guns and classes were so ass.

As I've said on several videos about the re-release - the desire for a proper Battlefront 3 or a Planetside 2-like Star Wars game is GIGANTIC. We desperately want a gigantic single-player or multi-player Star Wars game that is almost a LITTLE bit towards the MMO scale - allow us to fight the Clone Wars or Rebellion eras, even the era BETWEEN the two wars, to conquer the galaxy. We want GALACTIC CONQUEST, desperately. We have it in the OG Battlefronts, and in Empire At War. But it only exists officially in those old games. We want a modern game - EA's Battlefront 1 or 2 graphics, maybe a LITTLE lower graphics, so we can have a more maps, higher player team sizes - like 40 or so, maybe 60, and matching amounts of AI units on the 'skill' of the AI in Battlefront 2 EA's co-op modes, maybe even a bit smarter than that. But we want MASSIVE Star Wars battles and teh ability to conquer the galaxy - it doesn't even need to follow either Legends or Disney canon. Heck, I think we'd even like a THREE WAY FACTION WAR. Add the Criminal Underground for both war eras - the Galactic Civil War would get a mixture of mercenaries and Mandalorians that can fight on any of hte 3 sides, and the Criminal Side would be teh FRIKKEN ZANN CONSORTIUM. Imagine that bloody AGGRESSOR CLASS bombarding an area on the ground - a massive Ion blast disables all weapons and vehicles, even lightsabers and shields, a massive area is affected, and a slightly smaller area is then RUINED by the gigantic plasma cannon blast, setting the area aflame for a minute or several, making it near impossible to be inside without shields. Investors and companies KNOW we want something or MORE along what I just said. We don't care too much about canon, and more about CONTENT. Battlefront is super-popular even today, even the old games. Give us what we want, and we will naturally throw OUR ENTIRE BANK ACCOUNTS at them. OK, nearly the entire bank account. But you all get my point. GIVE US GALACTIC CONQUEST! And if we get a 3-faction war with neutral mercenaries that can go to either faction, that would be truly perfect. Imperial Fleet vs Rebel Fleet vs Zann Consortium Fleet. It would be so much fun! And a pseudo Star Wars MMO set during hte Galactic Civil War where the player can partially impact the outcome of the galaxy would also be fun. Would definitely allow for the Zann Consortium ships to make a comeback - the Consortium is in the Disney Canon after all, they're just not doing anything with it yet. Huge potential there.
Thank you for this video. Did you notice the server issues in Galactic Assault on PC in BF 2? It is pretty much unplayable right now, because players get kicked out of (almost) all lobbies. I just wanted to pass this on to you, so that maybe it gets to a former developer or to EA/DICE somehow.
Why? Why would they re-release a game that you can get for a fraction of the cost and size that has the EXACT same content? They’re not overhauling the graphics, they’re giving a performance boost - a performance boost that PC and next gen consoles already perform at. The maps and heroes are already on Xbox. Is that XL gamemode taking up the whole 50GB this is going to be? I’m skeptical.

You are definitely right they wont develop a new battlefront any time soon. But if we make sure to buy and play this game consistently, they could definitely look into re releasing rogue and elite squadron to all platforms. And if those do well, who knows, maybe there will be some incentive to finish the original battlefront 3
Technically speaking, Battlefront 3 could happen. Just likely not from DICE’s Battlefront series. While you are correct that re-releasing an old game is easier to do than developing a new one. However, the original canceled Battlefront 3 was already technically released on the PlayStation Station Portable as “Battlefront: Elite Squadron”. That game was the original handheld port for Battlefront 3, and has all of the old files that were used to make the canceled Battlefront 3(files in the game are straight up labeled as Battlefront 3). If the assets for Elite Squadron survived, they very much could use those assets to remake the canceled Battlefront 3 in the same vein that the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 remake was built on the coding of the old Pro Skater games.
I would imagine that it would be quite easy to finish OG Battlefront III by patching up gaps in programming and all that. Of course that is, as you said, IF they could get their hands on the files. However, it should be worth noting that it's 2024. Would old fans flock to the finally released old Battlefront 3? Yes. But younger fans would want graphics like DICE's Battlefront 2. Odds are, a sequel to the 2017 BFII is more likely. If they made Battlefront III from scratch and has modern graphics and all the game modes of old, it could sell very well.
@@jeanshortswag not exactly, the history of the “cancelled”/partially released OG Bf3 is quite dense. The game was essentially done for console, which is why it was easy to port it to PSP and simply relabel it. In short, it’s not an “unmade sequel”. It was made. It was simply not released. It would take a minimal amount of effort to polish and release it, compared to what their plans were to completely remake KOTOR from the ground up, for example.
I really hope so DICE not wanting to make Battlefront like Battlefield is the biggest issue with the DICE games. A Star Wars version of Battlefield V would legit be my favorite game and would be way closer to the classic Battlefronts than the new games were
@@JesusChrist-qs8sx Correct. Honestly though, remember when Battlefield introduced the Behemoths? That's what they should've done for Star Wars. Land battles with vehicles positioned around the map that players can enter/exit at their free will. Behemoths that appear as the losing faction's ship (Star Destroyer, Mon Cal, Venator, Providence) in Conquest with turrets strategically stationed around the map capable of damaging them. Then for Space battles, expand on what 2005 Battlefront 2 did well. Include a neutral point (like a space station) that if captured will offer strategic advantages to the team that holds it.
One thing I find to be good is that we had NO idea they were going to drop this news, not to mention it releases less than a month from now. So if they can do that, who says they aren't/won't already be making a BF3? of course, I still don't believe they will but hey who knows.
I think you have a nicely balanced perspective on this situation. Personally, I don't expect a battlefront 3 anytime soon. My opinion is that we should take this re-release as a win and enjoy it. Now that being said, I also think it would be interesting if the publisher, after seeing how popular this re-release is, would consider the thought of maybe releasing new content for it periodically if they can. Don't expect it, but adding new content to an already loved game could be easier and dare I say a "better" option than starting a new game from scratch. Just a thought..

tbh i doubt they will use the collection as a metric for a new game. the investment in this port is minimal compared to a new title. to me it's just a quick cashgrab. otherwise they would have done more than just upscale the textures. a remaster like Metroid Prime 1 got for example, but this here almost feels like Disney thought oh well making a new game is waaay to expensive but let's give em those ports to shut em up. Plus outside of EA you really only are left with Ubisoft to do something like that. and maaaaaaaaaaaybe Bungie.

It would be pretty dope if they just finished Free Radical's old Battlefront 3 game that got canned way back! Maybe call it Battlefront 2.5 or Battlefront Resurrection or something so you can still release a modern Battlefront 3 later.

I wonder if this collection does well, would Aspyr be allowed to take the original, canceled BF3 that was said to be very close to being finished and just do the necessary coding to get it to a finished state. It might take a little more working than BF1 and 2, but getting the OG BF3 would be the biggest win in Star Wars gaming history.
Why Battlefront 3 when they can just revamp support for Battlefront 2? It’s not like Battlefront 2 is a mess of code and difficult to update. If the re-release is a success then go back to 2. There were already huge community pushes in the past to bring development and new updates to Battlefront 2, they already have a really solid foundation
Star Wars really can't be any more dead right now. It's just like Halo Wars said: "At first it was going well, then setback after setback." If this series is going to be known for anything, it's complacency breeds incompetence. And Star Wars is looking pretty incompetent right now. Doesn't matter how good anything is now, before, or even later. It ends the same way, with recklessly negligent suits literally puppeteering around a pile of dead bodies for cash. Needless to say, there are reasons why grave robbing and vandalism are illegal.
When will game developers realize if you just make these solo and online games of big ips like superheroes and star wars it would be so much funner. Imagine if balders gate was in the star wars universe or marvel universe or an open world create your own Jedi or superhero with lots of content that's the stuff we want
Maybe since Denis and some of the Battlefront team started their own studio they can pitch a bf3 to lucasfilm games instead of EA who might be more lenient.
I think seeing the original battlefront 3 was cancelled then leaked online to be used as a mod if this does well and they still have the files they created they could build off of that and add more content with all the new stuff around from shows and movies. I believe ea no longer has the rights to Star Wars but I could be wrong on that
the saddest part is that even if the stars allign and they sell millions of copies of the collection and do decide to make bf3, it will be at least 4 years off at this point, probably longer.
Honestly, I'd be more than happy with this being a test on the battlefront ip and then leading that to resuming work on bf2 from 2017. It'd be really nice to be able to play the og games again but also have them resume work on the modern bf2 game.
For next Star Wars Battlefront game to be successful, they need vehicles to work like Battlefield vehicles, so that space-ship mode and more would be fun. What EA Star Wars Battlefront is lacking is really the freeroam vehicles.

I’m somewhere in between. I don’t think there’s another Battlefront currently in the works or even planned at the moment. HOWEVER, I think Lucasfilm most certainly commissioned this project to either check or prove that there is indeed a very large market for this franchise, and if it does well, I guarantee we see another game in the works within a year or so (announced). If it does poorly, the franchise dies. To anyone complaining about the price, it’s two games bundled together for practically $15 each. They come with content never seen on other consoles, online servers, and extra content no version had prior to this rerelease. I myself have both backwards compatible versions digitally on my Xbox, and I preordered the hell out of this (it’s at a discounted price if you preorder). I say if you want this franchise revived, you support this game any way you can. Let’s break some records guys

I feel like adding content and updating the 2005 BF2 would be so simple. Like they could add sequel trilogy and other planets and with the graphics, be cost effective and players would pay 10 dollars for stuff like Sullust, or Kylo Ren
they already made a BF3, they just didn't release it. in there you can fly into orbit to the space battle and back on the ground battle again. at the time it didn't worked on the consoles so it got cancled and the studio went bust because of it (.....actual fotage leaked a few years ago, you can look it up)
I hope with hindsight when they see how successful the rerelease classics are they don’t overlook everything else and focus on just multiplayer aspect of Battlefront when doing Battlefront 3, because the classics has so many options and modes to play from both online and offline it wasn’t restricted like the DICE reboots, and yes I hope Aspyr does it
Why would you hope Aspyr does it? They've literally never made an original game in their 25 years of existance, they've only ever ported games, and the one time they tried to make a remake, it was given to another studio.

That was what I think was missing from the DICE Reboots actually, it’s missing a lot of the options and modes to play in singleplayer also, it was mostly restricted to multiplayer

HEAR ME OUT. A STARWARS BATTLE FRONT BATTLE ROYAL. Obviously keep the same conquest and other game modes too, but add a battle royal like COD does. Star Wars has a huge base. And for them to make money they can sell skins that will help us stand out individually. Put that with a season pass every 3 months. Introducing more heroes and villains going even far back into the old republic or new skins for the soldiers etc camos etc.
I think this re-release is just another re-release like the other star wars games. However, if this totally flops then the chances of a battlefront game will drop a bit and if it performs super well then i think it will mraise the chances a bit

Also aspyr got a change of ownership, i dont think disney had anything to do with it. The new parent company just did damage control and shifted projects, cause aspyr was late with alot of ports and projects
They’ll just need to make it similar to the original games, the ea version was pretty much battlefield star wars version which is not bad but not the same
If they do a Battlefront III, they need to make it about setting the standard of gameplay. More factions more content that has the ability to be expanded. With each faction they need a team to develop an official timeline. For gameplay should have faction locks, timeline locks, and as you earn awards, achievements you open new timeline locks and factions. The further you get you unlock timeline. In reality a BF3 would have to use all established content, expand, connect cannon stories for continuity, and then open up “What if?” Battle Scenarios. I’m not sure a single game developer would be able to handle this might need some of the biggest collaborations scene in the gaming industry. So I’m going to guess nobody wants to do it because of shear volume of content. It’s like trying to make a historical game about earths progression. I’d love to be a curator of establishing the timelines to keep continuity but they wouldn’t consider me cause I am too OCD.
I’d love to see Aspyr do a re-release/update for Battlefront Renegade and Elite Squadron. Both great games limited to just the PSP. A port to Switch at least would be awesome.
Something I was thinking the other day. Kinda random, but Max Payne 3 had shooting mechanics that could maybe work with the likes of a new battlefront game. I can’t see R* games making a Star Wars games due to the difference in values between them and Disney. I just don’t have faith in EA, dice, Ubisoft, etc. etc. so either that or a new developer would have to make the game.
First of all, I always check your channel for new content and I will continue to do so. Secondly, I hope they see the HUGE void there is in Star Wars multiplayer games. We are starving for something new and are happily jumping into old games to get our fix. The interest will be hard to ignore.
Like they did with this Battlefront Classic they could do the same with the modern versions and combine those together too. That would be absolutely dope!
Star Wars Battlefront Classics would possibly end up making the ones who own the Star Wars Battlefront learn what made these games amazing and might end up leading to them diving into if there were at any time a planned and partially developed SWBFIII.
Imagine if they polished up and fixed the SWBF3 that Pandemic was working on and released that, iirc it was nearly done. That way Aspyr dont have to make an entirely new game with new assets.
I dislike EA but I think the best bet for a BF3 is with Dice or another dev in-house, reusing as much Battlefront 2 content as possible. It's the only way to launch with a decent roster. Build on BF2, make small improvements, add new planets and characters. That's all it needs. Do 'Mariokart Deluxe' with it

I want a Star Wars game that is like old COD campaigns. You, your squad, and the army you fight for. More of a soldiers perspective of the whole Star Wars universe.
Hot take: But wow BF3 discussions are really eye-opening (and dissapointing if I'm honest).. I've obviously been playing for entirely different reasons than the majority lol, because for me -- Heroes vs Villains is one of the best online games ever created in my opinion (top 5), and the only reason I love BF2 so much. It literally got me back into Star Wars and I've watched the newer movies / animation series etc. The only thing I'm interested in seeing from BF3 is Jedi vs Sith online gameplay (non-force-sensitives in the character lineup are fine too obviously). I feel like you can go and play a shooter or a solo star wars campaign elsewhere, it seems like a such waste to ask for a focus on those things here. What I'm personally hoping for is: - More Heroes and Villains (e.g. Ventress, Padme, Ashoka, Nightmother, Darth Plagueis) - Create your own Jedi/Sith; lightsaber customisation; skins and clothing; custom abilities and skillsets; custom fighting style. - More maps. - Various online modes for Heroes vs Villains like hardpoint, domination, battle royale, etc. Not even trying to be rude (as I did enjoy them) but I really couldn't care less about the shooter / offline campaign aspects of Battlefront. I wouldn't be any less interested if they scrapped them entirely to only work on Heroes vs Villains online.
Given the price tag they're putting on this compared to the other aspire ports that have been put on PS4 I think this might be a test run to see if people really like aspires version of battlefront
Honestly it would just make more sense for EA to bring back support for 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2 than to create and develop Battlefront 3 from the ground up. EA knows It's just too risky for them to take on a brand new Star Wars project that would cost Millions of Dollars with the potential to lose more than they put in AND THEY KNOW IT!!!! Especially after what happened with Battlefield 2042. If the Battlefront Classic Collection shatters record numbers and makes headlines, EA should really consider talks with Dice & Respawn to bring back development for Battlefront 2!
Imagine if the story mode revolved around a youngling's adventures, and the final boss battle being Anakin himself after he finishes massacring all your fellow youngling disciples.
I wish EA/DICE would have kept supporting their Battlefront 2. But otherwise I hope a publisher/developer comes in and tries to make another entry someday.
If there is a Battlefront 3 I want it to be something that keeps on going for years, essentially a live service game. Sell skins for heroes and soldier characters and whatever else that does not affect gameplay. Keep the gameplay more focused and balanced (take out ship battles). Get away from Eras and having it part of the cannon story so they can add in all kinds of stuff thats fun to play with and get players to continue spending money so we can keep getting updates.
If BF3 were to come out it'll have to outshine all 4 current BF titles. I'd imagine preorder bonuses would be 2 skins per era for 2 random heroes/villains (like Obi-Wan gets 02 CW Clone armor, Ventress gets her 02 outfit, Boba gets Prototype armor, etc etc), a selling point would be the return of popular game modes from the classics and EAs BF, like conquest and Walker Assault. Returning with classic maps like Sullust from EAs BF1, Ren Var Harbor from BF1C, etc. There's so much potential to make millions and have a great game, but I don't know if they're scared because of how EAs BF2's launch was terrible or if it's a matter of waiting for the max potential in profit. I mean they lost tons from not having an active game for BB, Kenobi, Mando, etc content. Truly sad tbh
One thing I'd like to kindly point out in contrast of your statement that "Remastering the two original Battlefront games and making Battlefront 3 are in completely different leagues and magnitudes of development": There originally *WAS* a planned Battlefront 3, as plenty of fans know. And this Battlefront 3 made it allegedly far into development before being canned, even having an officially released (and unofficially modded/supported) Alpha build that's still alive on PC. Hell, even the spin-off PSP Battlefronts (Elite Squadron in particular) referenced a lot from the planned Battlefront 3, including the campaign which was almost 1:1 with the Alpha build minus a few cutscenes. What I'm getting at here is that, while yes it would require a noticeably larger team and amount of time to make a current Battlefront 3, it's not so far-fetched as people make it out to be. They have a lot of base ideas and source coding to derive from (especially if the original textures are used), and the studio behind the Alpha build even released the source code to fans and modders. All any studio would need to do would be to work closely with the fans and create any missing/new features they deem necessary. And that's the other thing: It wouldn't need to be Aspyr Media that develops/publishes Battlefront 3, it could be any studio affiliated with Disney, LucasFilms, etc. DICE in particular would easily have the manpower to make this a reality, and even have their graphical ideas and workflow down from their last two modern Battlefront games. Only thing that would make such a development more far-fetched is if a studio (DICE or not) chose to go the route of DICE-level graphics for Battlefront 3, which could mean re-doing almost all the currently available source code. But otherwise, outside of legality, logistics, marketing and profit, the concept of Battlefront 3 has never been in more of a hopeful spotlight than now.
The only way we'll get Battlefront 3 is if this sells really well. Which I'm certain it will, considering even people I talk to with NO interest in SW remember the fun of these games an have already pre-ordered along side myself. It's a possibility, IF it sparks life back into the franchise in general.
since aspyr just ported all the other star wars games, i think tere is only a tiny little chance that we see star wars battlefront 3. In Aspyr's history they only did ports for games, they never created their own game. But if they are allowed to finish the old starwars battlefront 3 by free radical design, than you still have to count with the Embracer Group, if they not getting the milestones done, it will be probably cancelt again like lucas arts did
I always believed that they will make a battlefront 3 or a continue 2 it will be a gold mine think about it. The fans NEED a star wars shooter and we saw an update on battlefront 2 to promote jedi survivor so they could be aware that the game is still alive
It would be more likely for Aspire to be given the task of releasing a Battlefront 3 based on Pandemic's Battlefront 3 as the game was pretty far along in development. They also have experience porting, polishing, and getting old code to work on modern hardware. Useful skills to finish production on Pandemic's unreleased Battlefront 3. That said... It's sadly still incredibly unlikely. There is some small hope that this classic collection will expand modding and maybe we'll get a solid fan version of Pandemic's Battlefront 3.
Yes we will get a Battlefront III. They can test the waters with the port over for BF and BF2. The play base is still there, they just have to make it right with us. The fanbase wants the old style with modern graphics and quality of life upgrades.
