FH1 was actually the best one. Best story line and the whole "no fucks given" attitude too. It has the worst graphics and gameplay logistics, but that's secondary to me. and all that only also because it was the first game in the franchise.
Still the best Horizon in the series. This was the peak of the franchise. Horizon 3 was the point when the series was an open world Motorsport game and it started to become Fortnite with cars
The accuracy of Forza Horizon 2 sounds is because there was a transition between different generations, this made them make a more realistic audio. after that they started recycling car engine raws to save time and money. just changing the hue on some cars. in 4 there was a lack of respect towards car lovers and in 5 they corrected it due to the flood of comments on the internet. But I tell you one thing, if the community was silent, 5 would come out the same as 4 and 3.

Old Forza games also remembered that cars make induction noise too. Forza Motorsport sport 4 was the best at this. The E92 M3, one of the TVR's (I forget which one), and the McLaren F1 all had a straight up NASTY intake growl

I believe this also is a feature in the Motorsport games all the way back to the first, FH5 was the first to actually let you hear it in realtime in the menu. But yeah, this is actually a pretty old feature if I'm not mistaken.
My main problem is how artificial shifts are, there 0 difference between every car in the game, all of them act like an automatic, it almost never has any varied nice sounding clutching engine moan like NFS Most Wanted and ProStreet have. It's especially painful on manual only cars that should have nice sloppy slow shifting like Countach.
Exactly. The Aventador has slow shifting in real life and same with all the v12 lambos but fh5 makes them sound like DCT’s. Same thing with the Lexus LFA and a ton of others

And DCTs really do sound quite awful irl for me too. It just sounds like a broken cheap racing game but in real life with how unaturally they skip the beat. Excess programmed farts/burbles are quite awful too and new level of obnoxious.
Instead a nice engine/exhaust note with happy little natural sounding accident backfire from revmatching or car just having a tad rich mixture at certaon rpm, its turned into just ear bleeding gunfire noise spam every time these idiots let of the throttle. Also i hate how people complai about LFA and other single clutch automated manuals. They keep the manual like sounds on shifts. I preffer that over "instant shifting" of dct when it makes car sound so awful as it shifts up. People just get too hyper focused on performance stats/metrics at complete loss of soul and sound from cars. Newer sportscars just are fast but dont communicate with the driver due to same electric steering as basic pedestrian cars of current year from whole NVH hellhole of design, you sit higher and higher, sport stopped to mean good sounds and driving ezperience and became this waterred down mess over the last decade. When it doesnt matter how fast a car is in a straight line, when for daily sportscae use its the sound and feel that matter to give driver joy. If games just mimic this awful state of things instead of preserving some of this for posterity then it will truly be gone once last of 90s and early 2000s cars perish and remaining ones will be rare and expensive collector items.
I like the games where not only does it change the sound, but it changes the looks of the exhaust as well. Gran Turismo 7 is a good example of this. In Need for Speed Heat, there is a wide range of exhaust tips and notes you can choose from.

also what i noticed is that some flames out the exhaust are varied, like sometimes they are small faint and orange, and sometimes they switch back a fourth between exhaust pipes really fast, or sometimes they are orange and blue ect... In fh5 we just get one type of flame and that's it.

Tbh I think the backfires in fh2 sound too fake it was always my biggest issue however the look of them was close to spot on. Fh5 backfires sound just right it's aggressive and snappy like how it is on real cars but the colour of them is weird it's almost like every car is running methonol. I think to solve the issue they need to change the colour to close to what fh2 had and add more dynamic flame affects along side after flames like you see on race cars. Also make it so you can tune the intensity like nfs
But there are atleast different backfire sounds, not like in FH5 😅 if they had different backfire sounds in FH5, it would be insane, for example: low rpm backfired would be more subtle compared to high rpm ones, and maybe a 2 step backfire mode 😂
Alright goddamn it, I saw the game on my “owned games” and debated it, now I’m seeing it on RU-vid. It’s time again. I played the first one a couple months ago too but I think deep down this one is my favorite for some reason.
I noticed it on the 240SX, then I was wondering what cars have it too, but this would take too long to check all of them, so I tried similar cars and other to see if a difference is noticeable 👍🏾

I'm honestly super hyped to be getting an Xbox one just to play FH2. I've almost played through the entirety of FH1 and I enjoyed it a lot more than FH4/5.
although different game series. i fondly remember an exhaust sound change in nfs ug2 ofc not the same quality and stuff as fh2, still find it interesting how loong it has been a thing. probably before ug2 as well. but not that i know/remember. and bring my damn vtec back!
im not sure if it was a feature in fh1 or fh2 on the one, but on fh2 on the 360, the 458 and the scuderia would crackle quietly when you let of the gas and i was obsessed😂
i just want the pops and bangs to sound sharper, fr we just want more freedom. being able to lower a car as much as u can irl would get so much more playing time from me
Horizon 2 is the best one. That’s where my playtime is & it’s all for the sound. If you’ve been playing racing games all your life, your ears know the difference. Aye That midnight club is my shit. Detroit with those jagged ass buildings.
there is also the graphics difference, there is none !, i mean a little but, yeah just put forza horizon 2 at 4k and it looks insane good, gosh fh2 aged fantasticaly
I have never played fh2, but if I didn’t know this was fh2, I would think this was a NFS game because it looks good, sounds good, and even have cool little details, like the bumper falling off. I wish playground games and turn10 could make fh5 like fh2
The fact a 2014 game had a better story, better graphics, better sounds, better map, more detail and more realistic is an embarrassment on behalf of playground games and Microsoft What were they thinking
I swear everyone has a hate boner for anything that isn’t horizon 1 and 2, and I guess 3 now, too because it’s old enough. H5 has the best sounds in the series, aside from the zonda and cgt.
Back when Playground actually put in the effort. It's more emphasis on the graphics now. Forza horizon might've been the original GOAT, but Forza horizon 2 is the one horizon to rule them all!!! If playground went back to Horizon 2, ask what ticked the most about it to gamers and put more emphasis on that, sequels after 3 would've been much better. But it seems like they don't really care anymore about the originals.
something that I love in fh2 Xbox One / PC / Xbox series X / S version is that the tire sound is amazing and so realistic, in fh2 xbox 360 it still good but graphics looks like fh1 and the tire sounds or car sounds is not that good edit: I think rain simply doesnt exist in fh2 xbox 360 version because I played it a lot and never ocurred a rain
Love this game, definitely my favorite in the series, however sadly when I got my series x I lost my save with everything I had played for over the last 8 or so years, I don’t even know how I lost my save
one thing that really bothers me about fh5 is the turbo sounds. even the slightest tap of the throttle gives the same sound as a full spool. it even does it just by changing from reverse to first gear. also please bring back vtech lmao
