Did you know? The 1907 Destruction of Downtown Kingston, Jamaica 

I have vague memory of reading a short overview of this deviststing earthquake years ago. However, somewhere in my head, I had thought there was only one devistating earthquake in Jamaica...the one that sunk most of Port Royal! How wrong I was! This is the first time I'm actually hearing details of this one, and that there is even a memorial for those that perished 😢 We need to keep in mind that earthquakes are frequently happing around the world now, so we ought to teach our young ones how to master survial skills should this happen again...lets face it, absolutely nowhere is immune from desasters now! Good to know here and see and get a fullness on what happened because all I knew was what my grandmother would tell me and she was not even born yet. She told me about a man by the name of red shirt and a woman with a red tie warning the city of the destruction to come, there was a policeman in the middle of crossroads she said he pointed at him and tell him by such and such a time you won't be there and and the woman would just go around and make a fret sound in judgment that the destruction was coming back 😔😮😊❤

My grandmother was born in Kingston in 1906.her mother my great grandmother would tell her how devastating it wa. U can c in port rose were part of the town sank as a result. U can still c where it’ sank.

Interesting video. I did not know about the monument. Please tell me was this when the jamaican building code was introduced and most buiding started to be made from concrete?

That was huge and was very bad then. I wonder how would Jamaica withstand one of that magnitude now. Which we wouldn’t that to happen.

Back in the 1990's a photographic excebition was put on display at the Institute of Jamaica showing trilling details. Some of them showed what area looked like before which include down town Paraid which use to be an army camp.

They say we overdue for one, hopefully that's not the case
