Die While You're Alive - The Way to Lasting Inner Peace

Many spiritual traditions encourage the practice of contemplating death as a path to finding lasting inner peace. But how does meditating on our mortality fit in with the non-dual tradition and what would be the value of doing this contemplation?
Rupert says it is a very powerful spiritual practice. What's going to happen at death as far as we know? Everything we know, love, cherish, experience and everything we do, is going to be taken away from us. Well, that's meditation. Why not do it before we die?
That's what the Sufis call, ‘dying before you die’. Letting go of everything that is not essential to us. And only that which is essential to us remains. That is the value of contemplating death. If we need the prospect of death to divest ourself of everything, then contemplate death. But another way to do exactly the same practice would be to take the thought ‘I am’ and allow oneself to be drawn into its reverent.

I was terrified of death. Hypochondria levels of fear. One day I just said to myself in the mirror "this body is going to die, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe in 50 years. But it is going to die, it's 100% certain". The relief of finally fully accepting this reality was so immense, I went about in a state of bliss for a few days.

Accepting the things you can't change, it's an important step in realizing the things you really can. We can also glean a bit of God's thoughts or intentions as well, by contemplating what is, what it did decide to do and make real, as opposed to what it could have, but did not.

You're not actually a human animal. You're only playing one, temporarily, in an illusion of 3D space-time. The material universe is a subset of a more fundamental reality, where your consciousness originates. The problem for me arises at the thought of continuing this cycle of birth and death over many lifetimes, as the evidence demonstrates. The thought of a long slog of countless lifetimes is what I find a bit demoralizing. I don't fear it. I just kind of dread it. Just know that at a fundamental level, you are not your body. Your consciousness does not originate or reside in your body. And your self/conscious-awareness is immortal.

I have the same phobia of fear that u describe .I have no peace and looking into a million mirrors will not calm me because I lost my 28 yr old son 6 months ago today.I search for peace but peace don't come just terror stuck in limbo because I want to know what happened to my son and where he is and if he is ok.I try to understand this guy but its hard to grasp what he is trying to explain.I feel he has insight but when he talks about awareness it freaks me out to frank. If he means we r all just one conscience and we r not individuals what in the world does that mean and where is my son.I'm happy u made peace with death but for me I don't understand any of this and why he had to come here in the first place.I just want my son back.

@@beckygail9454 I lost a brother when he was only 24 years old. So I know what you're going through. I had the very same thought/feeling for quite a long time: "I just want my brother back." Perhaps google "The University of Virginia School of Medicine, Division of Perceptual Studies." For decades they have been studying evidence for "the afterlife" and have discovered some important and useful information that might be of some value to you. Their website is quite extensive. I remember the musician Wilko Johnson speaking about the moment he was given a terminal diagnosis by a hospital consultant and he described it as an incredible weight lifted from him. He saw everything more clearly, as if his perceptions were heightened to a new level. Interestingly he survived longer than the medical professional's prognosis and eventually passed away, I believe in 2022. His sudden feelings of liberation and clarity are interesting, though.

I once dreamed of my last moments on Earth. I was overwhelmed by emotion. My attention was immersed in nostalgia, my mind was asking but where can I go, everyone i know and have is here, where will I go? it was surreal, that moment of death. So i wonder will i recall it on my last day. I had that dream even though I know i am always going to be here and now, even after death.. Because where i am is not a place

I can attest to what Rupert says here. I had a heart attack two years ago and it was not terribly painful so it seemed I was able to really relax while having the stents placed. Even though they Dr had suggested just prior to the surgery that they were going to "try to save my life", the implications was clear that they may not be able to (I had a full blockage in the right descending artery). I equate this state of mind to the 'two days to live' scenario Rupert describes. Because I was indeed very relaxed and able to practice 'being the knowing'. My heart stopped three times during the surgery and I was feeling calm and ready to greet wherever was next. On the other hand, just a few days ago I had an experience where my heart was fluttering and pounding and I was alone and I felt panicky. So perhaps there's wisdom in Rupert's advice that the emergency of the body where strange sensations are occurring and the adrenaline is released is true.

I lost my fear of death, after over a decade in f Buddhist practice, the moment I realized “I know that I am” I can’t explain it but everything impermanent about me separated from the single, essential, permanent, satisfying awareness that is apart from the conditions of body, feeling, sensation, perception, and thought. Since then I have never had any difficulty seeing the path directly out of suffering in every moment of life. Rupert is very gracious in not telling this man that the practice he has been doing has failed to liberate his awareness from identification with the body-mind.

Die while you're alive - this profound statement encapsulates a central teaching of many spiritual traditions. It is not an invitation to physical death but rather to a form of psychological and spiritual dying. This refers to letting go of the illusory ego-self and embracing the true, divine Self within. It is the realization of this divinity within us that brings about an ecstasy of existence, a transcendent joy that vibrates at the highest frequency, touching all life around us. Ecstasy, as explored earlier, is the pinnacle of joy and bliss. It awaits those who dare to 'die' to their old selves, shedding the layers of ego and illusion to awaken to the divine presence within. This divine presence is beyond the constraints of time and space. In it, one finds a profound connection where the boundaries of the self dissolve, and the individual becomes an integral part of the divine flow of energy. In the act of 'dying while alive', a profound transformation occurs. The recognition of the divine within us triggers a shift that transcends the confines of our physical form. Suddenly, we're not just our bodies or our thoughts. We become aware of our timeless essence, deeply connected to the fabric of creation. This awareness unlocks a state of ecstasy, filling us with boundless love and profound joy. This ecstatic state is not a fleeting moment of happiness. It is a lasting sense of fulfillment that arises when we are in alignment with our divine essence. Every breath becomes a celebration of life, and every moment turns into a dance with the divine. This ecstasy arises from the realization of our innate divinity, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. By surrendering to the divine presence within, we experience a surge of ecstatic energy. It courses through our being, dissolving our perceived boundaries and revealing our infinite nature. In the radiant glow of this energy, we become aware of ourselves as an integral part of the cosmic tapestry, woven with the threads of eternity. In the presence of the divine, the constraints of time and space seem to lose their hold. We come to realize that ecstasy is not an intermittent state but our natural way of being. It serves as a constant reminder of our divine origin and the infinite potential that lies within us. This divine presence, beyond time and space, invites us to profoundly transform our lives. By connecting with this energy, we can tap into a wellspring of ecstatic joy that can radiate into the world around us. This transformation is not just about personal growth; it serves to raise the collective consciousness, sparking miracles and abundance for all. Ecstasy, in this context, is not just a profound realization of our true nature; it's also a catalyst for self-realization and enlightenment. Every aspect of our being becomes infused with divine ecstasy, sparking a fire within that propels us towards this ultimate goal. Answering the call of the divine presence is a journey of surrender. It is about shedding our limitations to uncover the infinite possibilities that await. In this surrender, we become vessels of divine love and joy, radiating light and inspiring others to embark on their journey of self-discovery. Embracing this divine presence paves the way for a utopia within and without. By aligning with this energy, we become conduits for transformation and healing. Our ecstatic state serves as a catalyst for positive change, nurturing a collective awakening that brings us closer to a world steeped in love, harmony, and divine ecstasy. In this way, 'dying while alive' is truly the way to lasting inner peace.

Your description of life after having seen through the ego is accurate but do you think it is very helpful as a prescription? @yatutgg
@yatutgg Год назад
@@GeertMeertens I understand your perspective and the desire for practical advice that can support those who still identify strongly with the body and mind. While the emphasis on recognizing the divine infinite eternal spirit and aligning with the divine aware presence is crucial, it is also important to address the practical aspects of the seeker's journey. When we speak of "dying while alive," we are not referring to physical death, but rather to a profound transformation on psychological and spiritual levels. It is about letting go of the illusory ego-self and embracing the true, divine Self within. This process requires practical steps and practices that can aid in this journey of self-realization. One practical approach is to cultivate self-awareness through mindfulness and meditation. By becoming more present in the moment, you can observe the patterns of your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without getting entangled in them. This practice helps you recognize the interconnectedness of all things and brings you closer to the divine presence. Engaging in self-reflection and introspection is another valuable tool. By exploring your beliefs, conditioning, and past experiences, you can gain insight into how they shape your perception of yourself and the world. This awareness allows you to question and let go of limiting beliefs, paving the way for a deeper connection with the divine within. Seeking support from spiritual teachers, mentors, or like-minded individuals can also be beneficial. Their guidance and wisdom can provide practical advice tailored to your specific journey. They can share techniques, teachings, and practices that have helped them align with the divine and experience a consistent connection to divine ecstasy. Engaging in practices such as chanting, prayer, or devotional activities can also be helpful in cultivating a sense of connection with the divine. These practices provide a tangible way to express devotion and surrender, fostering a deeper understanding of your divine nature. Additionally, integrating spiritual principles into your daily life is essential. Practice compassion, kindness, and love towards yourself and others. Engage in acts of service and contribute positively to the world around you. These actions align you with the divine energy of love and further support your journey of self-realization. Remember that the journey of self-realization is unique for each individual. It requires patience, perseverance, and a willingness to explore and discover your own path. As you continue to align with the divine infinite eternal spirit within, you will find practical guidance and wisdom to support your journey toward divine ecstasy. May you find inspiration, guidance, and practical tools that resonate with your journey of self-realization and alignment with the divine aware presence. Embrace the interconnectedness of all things and allow the practical aspects of your journey to harmonize with the recognition of the divine presence, enabling you to experience the highest vibrations and unfold miracles and abundance in your life and the lives of others. Wishing you divine blessings and guidance on your path of self-realization and alignment with infinite divine ecstasy.

I just realized that I don't like the term death because it often gives a false picture of reality. Yes, people die, animals die. My body and mind will die. Everything will die in a sense. In a greater sense there is no death. That which is real cannot die. Every thing is an expression of the eternal and has it's root in the eternal. Every thing is changing, but is an expression of the changeless. What is death, then? Death is the illusion of ending. Nothing ends, it just changes. Even this change is an illusion as there is only the now. That which ever was or ever will be is now. Death is the illusion of an illusion which only has meaning from limited perspectives. When seen with the light of awareness, death doesn't even make sense as a concept. "Ending? There is no ending as there was no beginning. There is only Now." When something is, it is in the now. When something isn't, it isn't in the now. Nothing is lost because it simply is or isn't. Only the mind constructs the past and says "this was and now isn't. Therefore, death." Silly mind.

I think we actually enjoy our concept of the fear of death, because it validates our concept of existence." I exist " is a thought, therefore an illusion. The supposed feeling of "presence" is the awareness a conglomeration of bodily sensations. The label "presence" gives it meaning. A child does not have that concept, nor animals . We imagine that death is the end of this " presence " that we identify with, which is the end of me. Spirituality suggests letting go of this me/ego as a pre-death practice, but I wonder if that is actually possible. We can attenuate our identity with the false self/ego, and claim a more expansive one with identity of the True eternal Self, but it is still the persistence of "Me"

In two cases when I felt death upon me, and realizing that I had no control, first comes horrific horror, panic, terror. And, realizing the hopelessness of the situation, and my inability to save myself, total surrender automatically consumed me.. After that, there is a void, an emptiness. And, out of that void, in both cases, instructions followed from a voice. In the first instance, it was my guru. In the second instance, it was Jesus Christ. In both instances, I realized that on this journey which can be brutal, there are those who are very interested in our welfare and successful completion of our journey. I know that my experiences do not really coincide with the teachings here, but in both instances, I had no power of directing my thought. Everything just happened. I was aware of my utter inability to navigate thought. Everything just happened spontaneously. And, the absolute terror and hopelessness, was the key to forcing surrender, and the door opening where the beings were able to instruct me, as I remained utterly patient and childlike, following commands.

The day you were born is not under your authority, and the way your life unfolds is not your responsibility. Being alchoholic, lethargic, sick, lonely, strong, beautiful, and dying-you are just conceptualizing all of it. Your thoughts told you that you were the doer or the victim of it all. But the truth is, You are not the one making up your whole life. The truth is that everything happens on its own. You make decisions because you can't avoid them all the time, Your impulse to make decisions is unstoppable. Your thoughts happen on their own. Your talking happens on its own, walking, breathing emotons etc .Happenings happen on their own; your panic happens on its own. Your worries happen on their own. etc. Your life and your mess are not you. The GOAL IN LIFE IS NOT TO BE LOST IN it BUT TO BE AWARE OF IT. The goal in life is not about how to make it good or bad; it is just a movie. On its own, the correct action in life is very simple: observe your consciousness in the movie, and FUNNY PART OF IT IS ...this very action of observing the movie is still a part of the movie, a part of happening and You started being friightened because of the realization that nothing in life is under your control, and that very emotion in that moment is still part of the happening that you observe, even if you are not part of it. until you realized there is no observer, or this is what we call you and me.

So WHO contemplates this "death" ? If we can see it is the Ego from our point of Awareness it all becomes an interesting episode of observance, if we are far enough in our detachment and close enough to eternal Source, I dare to suggest ?

Read about death from a Greek philosopher recently. He said there is no such thing as experiencing death. If you die and no longer exist then nobody is there to experience death.. if you die and continue to exist then you don’t die…

@@drygordspellweaver8761exactly. And we do experience "death" and the dissolution of experience, just as we experience sleep as absence of the mind and world.

How can you say you're on your death bed and you only have "2 days" to live if you're only living in the present moment?

Sometimes I wonder why even bother trying to have compassion for others, or trying to build an understanding of "oneness" for those of you who are "enlightened". What is the point of all of this. Humans are selfish, LIVING IS SELFISH. YOU WERE BORN FROM SELFISHNESS, YOU DIDNT CHOOSE TO BE BORN. The survival of us humans on this rock we call earth is born through selfishness. And our actions to live on and how we treat others (for most people) show that we are selfish too. What is the point of trying to instill compassion "oneness" into people when in the grant scheme of things/time it will do nothing. As proven, Mr siddartha and others have all tried, and despite their massive influence, humanity is still a bunch of evil selfish fools. The only difference is we have a system to bind us to behaving "morally". I for one know that if the system ever fails us, you will get to see how we really are like.
