22 years old Maradona shines for Barça in El Clasico - he scored a goal & assisted the winner in a tight 2:1 against Real Madrid as well as hitting the crossbar and creating multiple chances for his teammates.
Whaaaaat, footballia did me dirty! For the first time. Thanks, I’ll amend the title! P.S. and it's in the video too!( I'll pin up your comment for other people to see first.
As I've said earlier, it was a bit like Neymar's situation at the time of his transfer to Barca - he was seen as the next big thing with a pretty much limitless talent (hence the world-record fee) but there were question marks about his attitude on and off the pitch. Platini and Zico were seen as better players and Maradona's place as a potential all-time great was far from certain. The good indicator of just how highly he was rated by the general public is Bruno Conti's nickname that was given to him during the 1982 World Cup - MaraZico. Can you imagine one of the stars of the tournament getting a nickname after a player 5 years younger than him? Everything changed in 1986 though. After that no one had questioned his stance as an all-time great.
@@HarmsFootballin 82 Platini was not considered the best. Maybe Zico, but even in WC 82 the (awaited) star was Diego. Platini at the time was considered a great player, but not the best in the world. Everything changed when he went to Juventus (not immediately though). From 83 to 85 Platini was insane, and became the best player in the world (Zico was declining). In 86 he was done, and Maradona took his place (being better of course)
