A rare, unaccompanied setting of the 'Dies irae', in which ‪@mjtrottacomposer‬ depicts the ‘Day of Wrath’ - in other words, Judgement Day. Taken from Trotta’s forthcoming setting of the Requiem, it was filmed in the beautiful church of St Mary's Ealing in May 2023.

What an exquisite composition! I was curious how Dies Irae could be done effectively without instruments, but this is just as wonderful as any orchestral setting with a big choir. It is so beautiful and terrifying and uplifting and everything else Dies Irae should be. This is the height of human artistry. Well done!

as a high school choir kid who has developed an odd fascination with the Dies irae recently, i'm rewatching this video for the 5th time, and it doesn't get any less breathtaking. i have the utmost admiration for both the incredible choir and the director. way to go!

Never heard this before. Sounds like you're singing it well. Must admit that I don't thing the arrangement really fits the meaning of the words though. Dies iræ, dies illa, Solvet sæclum in favilla = The day of wrath, that day, will dissolve the world in ashes. Granted, I got annoyed with it and stopped listening halfway through, but up to that point the music sounded like, "Oh what a naughty cat you are, hee hee hee, grr grr grr." Not really appropriate, eh? Sorry mjtrattacomposer. Perhaps it was deliberate and intended for some sort of effect. But just didn't work for me.

Almost all death scenes in movies I've seen have had the notes from 'dires irae', especially Mufasa death scene in The Lion King.

I am familiar with the text and many different arrangements, but not this particular arrangement. Nonetheless, I have to say that THIS particular arrangement is very impressive, inspiring even, and is now my favorite. And, dang, this choir is absolutely amazing.

Though I must say, the 'original' score video of this work on Trotta's channel is in my opinion a far better recording and representation of this work, which is clearly composed in the idiom of American high-school choir music.

I had the pleasure of singing this with my highschool choir. I was an alto, and for most of the song, we sing the same note. We sang that note with _such pride_ every time. This is such a wonderful piece, and it was such a pleasure to recreate.

I love this choir, it is one of the best choirs I've ever heard...but I think the selection of the melody and the lyrics does not give the hymn the proper meaning!! I don't know but the lyrics are very strong. In the end, this is just my opinion. And i wish if the ténèbrae choir perform in the holy land, in Jerusalem specifically 😊 this would be amazing.
