Diesel HEATER INSTALLED In RV truck camper. I'll show you how to install the Chinese Diesel Heater that you can purchase from Amazon.com inside my 1994 truck camper RV. These heaters are designed to be installed in semi trucks with metal floors, but I'll show you what I did to prevent catching the plywood subfloor on fire and also warn you of the dangers of the amount of heat the exhaust puts out. Although this video shows how to install the heater inside of a truck camper the install would be the same or similar for other style campers such as fifth wheels, pull behinds, A Class, B Class, C Class, pop ups, vans, and cargo trailers. I also show you how to prime the fuel pump before starting the heater and a few ideas on how to run the fuel line to help quiet the fuel pump ticking noise.
I am not promising that this install wont catch fire in the future, but so far after weeks of extensive testing at the highest temps this heater can produce it seems to be doing great with no signs of wood charring or over heating. If you don't feel comfortable installing this heater on your own then please hire a professional. I take no responsibilities for anyone who has issues with their install which leads to any damages or deaths. This video is meant to show you my best attempt at an install of this devise on a wood base / floor. These heaters are actual small diesel engines which do get very hot and produce carbon monoxide, please take all precautions necessary to keep you and your family/friends safe!!!

That’s a rad install brother, thanks for the heads up and info before I tackle my install. I’m building a 4x4 Off Grid RV now

Yeah, no problem! One thing I learned was that these Chinese diesel heaters never shut off, once you turn them on, it will go on high until it reaches that temperature and then it turns down to low and just continually runs. It doesn’t shut off like a central heating unit does. So my 9K heater burns me out of this place! I usually have to open up a bunch of windows to equal it out. In hindsight, I wish I would’ve got the 2K or 4K heater. Good luck on the install, thanks for watching 🙏 😊

Nice how to video, you make it look simple. I've seen a lot of videos on these heaters and nobody has mentioned the extremely hot exhaust. You da man!

It’s all taken care of now except that heater doesn’t work well in high altitudes so it usually fails me when I need it the most. But I’ll eventually figure out how to adjust the settings to make it work haha. Thanks for watching 😊

An ideal is to use exhaust tape around your exhaust pipe to keep heat from radiating.

What did you do with the propane line that use to go to the heater?
@rongreen7308
@rongreen7308 4 месяца назад
That muffler appears to need more clearance and maybe a metal or heat tape heat shield to prevent a fire. How close to the wood sides of the camper does that extended exhaust run? It looks pretty close and there is no air flow to move heat or fumes out in the event of a leak. Keep an eye on that exhaust pipe at they deteriorate rather quickly. It is cheap stainless. By the way, keep an eye on the fuel line too. The green line wears out very quickly and leaks after becoming brittle . That doesnt mean the clear is any better. Remember, it is all Chinese quality. I have to admit that I was drawn to your video because I am familiar with those heaters and I have owned a slide in camper too, and was wondering where and how you were putting the heater in. I'm glad you went to the future after noticing your issue. Double check the tings I've mentioned. I donrt want to see you die of fire or fumes. By the way, we always had a carbon monoxide detector in the semi as a precaution with the engine running all night. Now that I am retired, we have one and a smoke detector in our camper van also. Be safe out there. Good video.

how is the fuel consumption, is the 10 L tank enough for a 3-4 day weekend?
@worklessenjoylifemore
@worklessenjoylifemore 5 месяцев назад
I can get three nights off one tank. But that’s with it being warmer during the daytime and cold at night. Not sure how long it would last if it was running 24 hours a day. I would guess you would get 36-48 hours.

Now that you've had this heater for a few years would you still recommend it?
@worklessenjoylifemore
@worklessenjoylifemore 2 месяца назад
Yes and no, it still works and puts out a lot of heat, but I wish I would have bought the smallest diesel heater. This 8kw is way too big for this little camper because they never shut off. When I bought the largest one I figured it would heat up quick and then shut off like a normal heater once the temp was reached. But instead it just keeps cranking out heat and I have to open most of my windows so it doesn’t get too hot inside. Also it doesn’t like to start when I’m in higher elevations 7000 ft+.
@perryhanson7878

@worklessenjoylifemore well it wouldn't work for me then I'm up around 9 to 10,000 feet most of the time

I've seen some videos where truck camper owners stated propane heat can cause some moisture. Does the diesel heater have less moisture?
@worklessenjoylifemore
@worklessenjoylifemore Год назад
I have never had any moisture inside my camper if I have the heater running. I don’t think it puts any moisture in the air. One huge thing that nobody mentions tho and I wish I could go back and change….don’t go overkill on the heater!! I bought the 8kw heater thinking it will just not have to run as long because it will heat the camper up faster. But I was sooo wrong, these heaters will run at higher fan speeds and crank out heat when it’s trying to reach the desired temp but then they only slow down once that temp is reached. So it just keeps heating until you shut it off. Typically I have to turn on the heater until I go to bed, then I’ll wake up when it’s uncomfortably cold like 55 F, then I’ll turn on the heater and fall back asleep, then I’ll wake up an hour later and it’s 90+ degrees in the camper so I have to shut it back off and then repeat the cycle all night. So buy smaller than you think you will need!!

Propane = wet heat source. Diesel heater= dry heat source. Go with a 5kw

I had to google it. I think it was pressing g the top two buttons at the same time but I most definitely could be wrong. I honestly haven’t used the heater that much because it has been nothing but problems. Since I’m in AZ I’m in higher altitudes a lot and it doesn’t like that!! It backfires and sounds like fun shots. The fuel pump freezes up all time!! Plus the worst part is that it never shuts off. So once the camper reaches the temp I wanted it turns down and never shuts off and before you know it the camper is over 90* and I’m having to shut off the heater and open a window. Thanks for watching 🤙

You clamped a rubber hose onto a rubber hose though.. ???
@worklessenjoylifemore
@worklessenjoylifemore 5 месяцев назад
Yeah but the smaller hose is rigid enough and that’s how the direction tells you to do it. I have been using that heater since this install video and never had a problem with the hoses. Thank you for watching 🤙

Geeze everyone is buying these Chinese heaters with mixed results. 🤷🏻‍♂️Way too complicated 😐15 minute?😂
@worklessenjoylifemore
@worklessenjoylifemore Год назад
I have a love hate relationship with that thing!! When it works it warms the camper up within minutes. BUT sometimes it decides not to work, usually in higher elevations. The fuel pump gets stuck when I dont use it for a few weeks so then I have to take a meal bar and tap on it to free on the pump and get it working again. Worst part is I got the largest heater for a small camper thinking it would just heat the thing up faster. What I didn't know is that when its trying to get up to temp it cranks up and blows some serious heat, but once it reaches temp it turns the fan down to low and keeps blowing heat!! It never stops blowing heat so within an hour it gets that camper up to 90+ and its miserable. I have to constantly turn it on and off all night.

@@worklessenjoylifemore Maybe a thermostat controlled exhaust fan in the ceiling would help? Set it to pull the heat out before it gets so miserable!

@@worklessenjoylifemore You actually need the smallest heater of about 2 kw. These things require running longer and hotter to keep from building up carbon. The low setting should supply enough heat easily. Ideally you want the thing to run continuously but changing ambient temps outside would either keep you too cold or too hot. Espar and Webasto make the same heater in a gasoline version. They run cleaner than the diesel but still eventually get a carbon build up if it does not run hot enough and long enough. They recommend running it on high continuously for 30-60 minutes each month, even in summer, to assure it has no issues and burn out carbon. It can be plumbed into the primary fuel tank also. They use about1 gallon every 22 hours on low setting. Propex makes some propane heaters like this but propane fan freeze up on you in extremes. However, the Diesel will gel up also. The propane models are a dry heat because it exhausts outside just like you have now. Propane costs a little more to use than gas or diesel but it is much cleaner and less finicky, especially at higher altitudes. There is no ticking because the propane is under pressure and needs no pump. Your pump can be mounted on foam or wrapped in foam to silence it. It has to maintain that 30-45 degree tilt to keep air bubbles out. The fuel also lubricates the piston in the pump. When possible, it is beneficial to pre-prime the fuel line between the tank and pump so that it doesnt run dry for minutes on end and shut off with an error code. BTW, my build is nearly complete on my extended length, high roof Transit and a 1500 watt (1.5KW) electric heater has kept us comfy at night at about 68-69 degrees when temps have been down to 28F. The floor is a bit cool but the heater is raised to the kitchen counter to prevent the dog from upsetting it or getting his bedding too close to it. Also, my floor is not insulated but it is raised 2 inches off the steel floor so air can pass through and prevent mold. That 2kw should do you fine. I just subscribed. I hope to see more of your vids coming up. Good luck.
