There is more to being “Vegan” than eating a diet free from animal products. It also affects choices in other areas of life, such as clothing, purchased products, choices on entertainment, and for some even medications. Now I am one of the weird vegans who believes that not everyone can thrive on a plant-based diet. Some people have a genetic make up that doesn’t allow them to absorb the necessary nutrients from plants. One of my doctors is watching me very carefully on this because my medical profile is one that could possibly cause this problem. So far, I appear to be fine, thankfully. The Vegan Society defines Veganism as: “a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” If a person can’t thrive on a plant-based diet, then it isn’t practicable for them to follow that part of standard veganism. They can still, in my opinion, continue to make vegan choices in the other areas of their life and call themselves Vegan. I know not everyone agrees with this, but imperfect human bodies have limits that do not always match with our ideals. I think actually eating healthy is far cheaper than eating unhealthily. If you think about it, any type of dried pulses are far cheaper than chicken nuggets. I believe one of the problems has been taking cooking out of school as a subject and it also has a lot to do with advertising and media rather than the actual cost. It is a myth that eating healthily is so expensive, just the cheap version is super boring (and yes fresh fruit and vege can be horrifically expensive but the frozen fruit and vege are very cheap in comparison)

Hope you are feeling better and finding joy and love in your life. FIRST be kind to yourself...treat yourself as kind as you would a good friend or family member. I have learned that I treat others better than myself....too many "ANTs" or "Automatic Negative Thoughts" pop into your psyche and mind, maligning your own life , self-loathing, low self-esteem etc...I have had to forgive those who abused me as a child, in order to let go of the anger... I was also recently robbed of my life savings and credit by a predator who absconded....I am sure that person saw the vulnerability of my being victim of prior abuse in my life. Forgiving the childhood abusers, does not absolve the abuser of the cruelty, forgiveness is the gift I gave myself. It is a life long journey....food and sweets are temporary escapes..I only realized recently I was using Food to comfort myself...I put on weight during the COVID19 PANDEMIC.... thinking about past hurts, losses etc. was overwhelming. That mukbang history was incorrect. It came from single people wanting to eat with someone. The idea was to watch an video of someone eating to not feel so alone. Thank you for your discussion about BMI. I've done gymnastics and some other sports my whole life, so I've always had more muscle than other girls in my age/height group. I had a relatively high BMI, so my doctor would always tell me I needed to lose weight and that my weight was concerning. So I developed a negative relationship with food and my body, despite having a low body fat percentage and being COMPLETELY healthy in every other way. I've only now begun to heal my relationship with food. Some doctors really need to stop using the scale as the sole marker of health.
@MrPizzaSUS
@MrPizzaSUS Год назад
I'm replying pretty late XD, but yeah I agree. I'm not doctor, but BMI is not accurate to one's health. Like sure more muscle over fat will make a BMI calculator say you're overweight or obese, but the reality is your body fat is the main contributor to your health. If you have a lot of body fat like Nikocado for example yeah you're probably not healthy. But if you're low body fat, and more muscle chances are you're probably pretty healthy even if a BMI says you're overweight or obese. Again I am no doctor you should obviously have blood work done to see if you got health issues.

That’s why they’re called “raw vegans.” But being raw isn’t the only thing that can cause a vegan diet to hurt you. I 100% believe in most vegan ideology, but veganism isn’t for everyone. Tears of a waterfall Dangerously long time? You mean like days? How long are you talking about? Is 5 days long enough? It’s funny that you differentiate religious fasting and ‘dangerous’ fasting as if fasting is only acceptable if it’s religious and religious fasting can’t ever be dangerous. People fast all the time without being religious. It’s obvious that neither you nor the original commenter have any clue about fasting being a lifestyle and all I ask of you is to have some respect for others as you would like them to have for veganism. And spin it all you like, but veganism is closer to being a restrictive diet than fasting ever was. Oh, and why can’t people use fasting or veganism for weight loss? Just because they do it for weight loss does it mean they must be doing it unhealthily? Should obese people just stick to the tried and failed method of constant calorie restriction and then just die? Get out of here.

I'm vegan and have been for five years, but in my early days of veganism I restricted like nick which made my binge eating disorder (which I had prior to going vegan) worse. Giving up food rules (no oil, low fat, etc) has helped me immensely. Though I do sympathize with him. Binge eating disorder can make you feel isolated, ashamed, depressed, and all alone. Overall throughout his journey he has constantly choose unbalanced diets, his diet as vegan was healthy, his diet as a non vegan was even worse. He started his vegan journey inspired by Freelee, not a healthy start, it shows he was the sort to follow pseudoscience based nutrition information. This is why I beg new vegans to start their journey with at least one book written by a vegan dietician, this ensures you are getting the best start, this same advice could apply to any other diet. There is even a book on raw veganism by dieticians Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, if anyone is considering a raw vegan diet they should read this book instead of the abundant unhealthy pseudoscience filled books, and they should for certain follow this over raw vegan youtubers. The banana scene just shows his abundant lack of nutrition or health knowledge.

I just think that when you are confident about your choices and do it for moral purposes, you don't care what others think. He could have just said that he did it for his health and left it at that, because now he looks to me that he was either a vegan for the trend or that he wasn't really a vegan. It's hard for me to imagine, that someone who went as far as to stop eating meat in order to save animals, can suddenly start eating an entire farm in one sitting. All of the information provided by the dietitian/therapist was incredibly insightful and helpful. Since my therapist works with me solely on the psychological side of my disorder, I have not heard a lot of these treatment paths involving food and meal plans. I also find it fascinating that such a large percentage of people with Binge Eating Disorder also have a history of restricted eating. This is a bit discouraging for me since I also have Celiac Disease, and therefore am medically required to have a STRICT gluten free diet. I used to watch him before, but then I told myself what’s so fascinating about watching this man eat portions for a small family. It’s disgusting.

Yeah. Personally I think mukbambs are wasteful, just wasting food. Because you don't need that food, and someone else could've eaten it but youtubers decide to eat it for views

He seems to have trouble managing impulse control and managing and expressing his feelings... Kind of symptomatic of binge eating disorder. I wish he'd get off of the internet for a while. Creating content around his binge eating kind of legitimizes and incentivizes it. I obv can't diagnose this guy I've never met, but as someone who's also had a bad relationship with food it's kind of sad watching someone go through something not only very similar to my personal experience, but infront of an audience of hecklers. I don't particularly condone how viciously mean the internet is to him about the food all the time(I understand getting angry at him for some of the stuff he's said and done to other people though).

This was a good video, I like how you gave some credit to the person first, and then your recommended adjustments followed by explaining the science. Awesome explanation on nutrition, awesome sensitivity to mental and emotional health.

Although hearing about Nikocado’s story and struggles made me very sad for him, it was really wonderful to hear the professional advice and input from Alessandra. I would love to see more videos with her featured in discussions! I hope Nikocado can find clarity and healing in his journey soon.

I have not even finished this video but just from seeing other videos of yours and how you talk about health and eating, I am sure you are one of the most sensitive and appropriate speakers on the topic. I'm really tired of looking for advice and just feeling bombarded with fat shaming from angry people, or just simply not finding a kind understanding voice who clearly just wants to help and makes it more about the health than about the body. I think most people claim that it has nothing to do with appearance but they do emphasize on that a lot. I truly love your channel and wish more creators had a similar approach, you have made me feel supported and understood throughout my weightloss journey, especially since I also struggle with an ED.

Thank you so much for talking about Nickocado. You chose a hard one but really did a thorough and honest look at his history and current struggles. Well done! This is why I keep watching your channel. Honesty, integrity and a genuine heart for well-being no matter what food choices people make. I'm vegan and have learned so much from you because you don't judge the diet. You are only focused on the health and nutrients no matter which diet is chosen by the individual. Thank you Abbey and best wishes on baby #2's arrival!!!!

I absolutely loved this explanation of the transition from mechanical to intuitive eating when dealing with an eating disorder. I've actually been through quite some therapy because of an eating disorder and can totally agree that there is a strong correlation between healthy eating and exercising habits and depressive symptomes. Though having been able to find some healthier coping mechanisms, I always fell back to disordered eating, even after weeks and sometimes months in a therapeutic setting. I just thought that my body can no longer go back to having a natural feeling of hunger and fullness and didn't know what to do as therapist advised me against following an eating plan after leaving the clinic because I wouldn't learn to trust myself. It just never worked.. But it makes so much sense that the body (and mind) needs more time to recover after years of disordered eating and some weeks aren't enough time to heal. Thank you very much for your respectful and informative content and I'd love to see more collab with Alessandra

At first I was laughing throughout this video because he is very obviously trolling for attention (“These bananas will help push out sodium. And I will be adding salt to this.” LMAO). But I can appreciate the use of his videos to start a discussion. Your colleague/friend really made this video extra awesome, I loved her insight 👍

Nikocado is an entertainer. I don't think when people say "he's acting" or "exaggerating" that they're trying to suggest his experiences aren't real. Of course, my concern is young viewers who don't understand the entertainment, or copycat channels who try to gain 300lbs along with him. All these YT food & health channels yo-yo diet to sell viewers the drama of a "journey"

the conversation you held with Alessandra was amazing. I wish I would've heard this a year ago when I was struggling because it would've been so helpful. I think you should do a video specific to the topic of when and how to transition to intuitive eating specifically targeting people who don't know or struggle validating their disordered eating. your channel has really helped me rid of toxic diet culture mentality and i am also so appreciative of your hard work and insight about nutrition!! thank you

Very interesting content as usual! Alessandra’s interview was a nice add on! I have a question on the meal plan and introducing intuitive meals slowly: how do you know if the « meal choice » is considered intuitive (from the dietitian stand point)?
