JMac, BDog and Matt play the Forest City first nine, filmed over different days but on the same course. We compare the difference between breaking 80 in the mid 70s, breaking 80 in the high 70's, low 80 and high 80 golf.
FB GROUP: / waddaplaya
IG: / golfsidekick
URL: golfsidekick.com/
We compare the game of a 4 handicap, 12 handicap and 18 handicap. This is a very MINOR difference. There are a few decisions, a few mental capabilities and some mindset shifts that can make you improve your game instantly and in a big way.
JMac is down to an 8 handicap now and BDog is down to 16.8
These are two major improvements and they just keep getting better as they start to trust themselves and make BETTER DECISIONS on the course to STOP MAKING BIG ERRORS.
They use their short games to save shots as well. There are many decisions in a round of golf and making one bad one, and following it with. another bad one is where we all lose our shots. When we add in commitment issues, we are struggling. If we can commit to better decisions and commit to not hitting bad shots after other bad shots, we can really improve quickly.
Most of us can get the ball airborne and in the general direction we want. We just self sabotage. We know what to do but we commit to sucking because it's comfortable. Discomfort comes from the unknown. Try something new and change your life. Don't be scared to dump your trouble clubs and don't be afraid to experiment in golf. It ay open your eyes up to something new!

I just started golf this summer and have played a few matches. I've shot a 106 on a par 60 and a 116 on a par 72. Then yesterday a 56 playing 9 par 32. I've been having a blast and will be continuing to play golf for sure

Sounds like we play similar...I started this summer (6-7 weeks ago as well). Im having so much fun...similar improvement...Congrats to you! I havent quite shot a sub 110 (tomorrow is the day!)...I did shoot 111 on a par 71 last week. My previous scores were 124 and 116. Prior to that I did not keep score. WIth a toddler at home I have found it challenging to get consistent daily practice...gonna keep chipping away at it...my goal is to break 100 by the end of this month...got lots of chipping/putting practice to do to make it a reality

This channel covers the exact part of the game that is the most important and no other channel talks about. The actual course and game management. I don’t need 100 videos of drivers, these videos got my mindset to where I could actually play golf. Before I would driver then longest club most aggressive line in. When I play golf so much better if I would just take the 5 wood or 4 iron off the tee every time. The driver is a tool on open holes and open par 5s to take advantage of when you can hit it long with little stress. Cut the course up to be able to handle it based on your game and nothing else. I’ve learned the value of confidence, and it’s all you need to have fun in the course. Everything matt says is true. Edit: shout out to gen, her golf channel is awesome too!

Love seeing how different levels of Playas approach the round. Learning to check my ego and hit hybrid off the tee on tight holes has really helped me. Love WOTP
@thomasnoerregaard
@thomasnoerregaard 3 года назад
Playas. I have played in the low to middle 80's for the last 4-5 years without any significant improvements. I might hit it a bit straighter, but are also getting older and are hitting it a good bit shorter as well, so it kind'a evens it out. I have been following GS since spring this year, and have been planting feathers and enjoying myself. Recently I decided to actually do something about "it" though. With "it" being the WOTP and a bunch of Matts advices. So I pretty much stopped using the driving range and instead started practicing chipping and putting - and only puts between 3 and 6 feet. I practiced about an hour each day for two weeks before I managed to play a round. And when I did - Holy Cannoli! I didn't really hit my irons all that good. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad either, but nothing like when you really strikes them pure. The driving wasn't impressive either. While not really bad, it was more like an attempt to correct all the flaws in the backswing during the downswing. So nothing especially long or straight, but no lost balls either. Always going for the safe area, and accepting not needing to go for GIR. Not playing with the "big Cohones", meant NO double bogies, and when I missed the green, i chipped it pretty close to the flag, and the putter holed everything! Basically, it was like the opposite of flashy golf. It was almost sneaky good. So after 18 holes, I surprised everyone (including myself) by being just 4 over par (12 pars, 1 birdie and just 5 bogies)! And it had been pretty much effortless as well as stress less. Yep, I have been converted and will be preaching the WOTP!

Wuddup Playa!! I need to share my recent success with you bro! I've played for 20 years and I would rarely break 90. I was super frustrated because I can strike the ball really well. During quarantine I did 2 things: practice my putting and watched your videos. My last 5 rounds are 86, 87, 87, 85, and I just shot 83 today. I really love your enthusiasm and attitude on the course- it's helped me manage my expectations, and I now congratulate myself for my game rather than beat myself up because I didn't birdie every hole . I can hear your voice in my head each time I setup over a shot and think through my approach- making sure to play away from danger. Thanks for being a cool-ass dude. You the man playa!!!
@shawnmichajluk2044
@shawnmichajluk2044 3 года назад
For me, it's chipping that will improve my scores. Cutting out lost balls will save a few strokes (keep the ball in play). Reducing 3 -putts might save a few strokes. However, if a mid to high handicapper is not hitting greens in regulation, then it's important to chip and putt instead of chip and 2 putts, or 2 chips and 2 putts.

Golf Sidekick, greetings from Massachusetts! My mental game on course used to be the biggest detriment to my game. I used to beat myself up inside from hitting what I thought were poor shots. After watching many of your videos, I've embraced the way of the playa. I've been enjoying my rounds thoroughly thanks to the many things I've learned from your videos. I've separated the playing box and the thinking box so I'm able to break free mentally for my swing. I was shooting in the 90's and sometimes 100. Now after some range session and a new attitude (again thanks so much) I was able to piece together 3 great rounds in a row including an all time best. I bought me some super sweet swag from your shop to support you! Thanks again! - Bryan G.

The biggest change I recently made was numerating my good/acceptable shots, instead of the one that were lesser. To that end, yesterday I teed off, skirted the tree line I was actually aiming down to cut the dog leg short, and ended up directly on the bend with a clear view of the green. Which I promptly took my 7 iron off to the left. But, I have noticed immediate results with that simple change. Focus on the good.

Thank you very much. I just didn't "get" the psychological aspect of the scoring system as a higher-handicapper (~ 17 - 20) & older golfer (mid-50s). This is very liberating and encouraging. I need not look at these longer par 4s and 5s that I'm playing as stagnant and failures. I'm really playing to a +1 or +2 on every hole due to my particular game and handicap. Makes the thought process much more enjoyable, and opens up much more feelings of success now. I am really looking forward to playing again. (I may also look into investing in more modern game-improvement irons and hybrid clubs. Mine are Ping cavity back knock-offs from the mid-1990s, Goldsmith XPC 2000s).

Based on this video I think I have to focus on: - Pre-shot routine and assessment - Avoid smashing the hell out of it (my male parts will not get bigger with longer shots) - Commitment. Pure, absolute commitment to the shot I’ve visualized - Accept the outcome and move on the the next shot. Like the PIC says, “your next shot can be the best shot of your life”. Great video Matt. Watched it three time already.

Work on chipping. You have no idea how many strokes it can save you per round because you don't have to chip twice on a hole, and you're chipping close enough to one putt. You also need to practice it each time you play because every course's greens and grass are different affect not only the way the wedge contacts the ball, but the roll-out as well.

Wow J- MAC has really improved so much it’s inspiring! I’ve been playing seriously for about 2 years and have gone from 115 to 87 at my best. Consistently shooting 92-95 from the back tees at my club. Want to make the next step. These videos help me so much
@rushore1
@rushore1 2 года назад
So I'm not sure what the length is off the back tees at your club, and I'm not sure how many teeing options there are there, but TYPICALLY if you shoot between 92-95, you should not be playing the back tees at nearly any course. Even if you are a long hitter, your score tells me that you aren't very accurate. Moving up a tee would allow you club down one or two clubs, which would help you be more accurate and play within your game. Now, I know your first thought is, "I should be able to play wherever the hell I want to play," but the real consequence of playing further back is that by hitting longer clubs, you're more likely to miss more fairways and greens causing you to take more shots, and you're more likely to lose balls, both of which add time to your round. You're actually holding other groups behind you up. With guys, it's an ego thing. Check your ego at the first tee, and play within your game. As you practice and get your scores consistently into the 80's, then it would be a good time to move back a tee.
@nvoss3016
@nvoss3016 2 года назад
That's awesome dude, but STOP playing off the tips. It will not serve you in the long run. I'm fortunate to play with terrific golfers (I'm not one of them) regularly and I'd also say: "Why don't we play the tips". One of my best pals (who's a +2) said: "Why would I do that if I'm not in a tournament? Playing off the tips doesn't allow for me to practice my short game nearly as much. And you definitely shouldn't be playing off the tips, it'll only lead to you getting frustrated with your game" which made/makes complete sense. Play off the whites and you'll have a lot more opportunity to use your wedges, get good with them/around the greens, which will lower your scores over time regardless of which tees you play over time.

Started playing November 2020 First game i played shot 100 then it was like 5 or 6 120s .I shoot low and mid 80s now 81 being my recent. My approach to get better was from Ts to greens . Even though the majority of my strokes from each hole came from 3 and 4 putts and terrible chips. It was easier to forget bad short shots if i hit a great 1st &2nd shot . Now ive started working on short game and have no problem keeping my strokes down.

I've been playing golf now on and off for 2 years. I find as long as I play a club down from what I think I should use or could use, and give it medium power and don't crush the ball I get a better score. Whether this is leading to a more accurate shot or as you said leaving a little extra distance to the green for myself I don't know, but it improves my game. Even off the tee, I have even started experimenting and can sometimes shape my shots drawing or fading when needed now. The game has definitely changed and I have started to enjoy it a lot

Great video! So glad to see J-Dog improve is game in such short time! I've broken 90 a few times this year all due to many of the tips you give on your channel and it has made playing golf so much fun for me now. I hope to break 80 at least once by the end of the year.

Love your channel. Keep the videos coming. I’ve played 3-5 shots better with far less practice just playing stress free golf. Accepting outcomes of poor shots and just moving on to the next shot. Just shot 78 with two double bogeys in the first 5 holes as an 11 handicap. 2 of my 3 birdies were laying back instead of just trying to take the longest club possible.

I normally shoot in the low 100’s, but after following Golf Sidekick’s whaddaplaya philosophy for about 30 days, I was able to break 100 as well as 90, all in one week (shot a 93 then an 86 on my home track) bringing my handicap down from a 29.8 to a 23.5 in 30 days. Trust; believe; do playya!

I have been watching your videos for a couple months and I have learned some great things. 1. Learn your club distances 2. Play the tees you are comfortable with, you don't have to play the same tees the whole round. 3. You're paying for the round of golf, not a tournament, play two balls if time allows. 4. Set up for the next shot 5. You can always improve. 6. BE A BAUS!

I agree with this approach (which is not important because I am a 115/18 hack and just started a yr ago.) I get my swing advice from ONE source, so I follow that to pretty decent effect for a noob. However, this mental approach is a fantastic adder to how I should THINK about the game. Kudos x 10! Subscribed and I will be back with results.

This year is dialing in my chipping and pitching. Keeping stats for years now, it's a must improve area to get lower scores. My up and down percentage is like 25% on avg. Not good enough at all.

Something that will get me to the next level is when I’m on the tee box I will look for a spot on the fair way and say that’s my mark hit there u can do and that gives me a 100% commitment shot that I need. Also I have to work in my putting to become a boss like u and get it within a foot every-time and then I believe I can finally brake 80 for the 1st time. Love the vids btw helped me a lot

Great video! Can see the work that went into it. Also, very informative. I have just started seriously playing a few months ago. Last time I played was 2008 when I was only 14 years old, never took it seriously. Playing for my first ever handicap. 99, 96, 96 are my first three scores on my home course. Didn't expect to break 100 already but putting a lot of things you are explaining into practice makes a difference.

As I've gotten older and have had some distance come off my shots, to get me to the next level I feel I need to incorporate hybrids into my game. This will allow me to make up some distance from my 2nd shot and this will allow me to stop trying to crush the driver which inevitably leads me to pushing my driver to the right.
